Hoping someone familiar with Weimeraners has encountered this and can share. Our weimer Schotzy is 8 years old - spayed and up to date on shots. We got Schotzy and her sister Freida 4 years ago - they were rescues that had been poorly cared for and used as breeders in abackyard puppy mill Freida came to us with lots of health problems - diabetes, seizures, and we lost her to cancer in 2005. Schotzy has always been kinda weak and delicate - prone to infections, but nothing overt - no chronic...

What other creatures, besides dogs and cats, might make a good dog sibling/playmate for a small, active dog? Do ferrets like to play with dogs? Guinea pigs? What do you have that works? --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around. - Leo Buscaglia

Last night, the evil Chi-wow-wa came over for a play date with Bruiser. The little perv Chi-wow-wa had only one thing on HIS mind. It was gross, disgusting and to be honest, the thoughts running through my head were not very nice! If it wasn't humping Bruiser, it was standing there humping the air! Even when Bruiser took a quick nap and the little perv laid down, he was still going through the motions. According to the Chi-wow-wa's mother, ever since he was here the last time, he has picked...

One of BN's eyes has been taking spells watering for the last couple of days. He blinks like he has something in it or maybe he's scratched his eyeball. The other eye is fine and the one that is irritated is running clear fluid. DH thinks maybe the catnip that we sprinkle on BN's scratching board could be the problem. I've wiped his eye several times with a warm cloth; once with warm milk on it and a couple of times with warm saltwater. That seems to help, but it starts again several hours...

I am sitting here typing through tears. That was one of the most wonderful books I have ever read in my life. I just now finished it. I had to bring it home from work to finish it because I knew I would be bawling and didn't want to scare my co-workers. LOL Thanks so much for telling me about it. I've never been so moved by a book. "I dance, I dance!" Wonderful-just wonderful. It's a book that I will loan out but will request to have back again. I'm keeping it forever.

We just had the 2 kittens that we rescued over Labor Day spayed. Our 2 cats had been living in relative harmony with the kittens finally (our female cat, Annie, took forever to warm up to them) but when we brought them home from the Vet after the spaying (last Wednesday) Annie was furious. She hisses, growls, and spits at them and actually tries to attack. I've been keeping them separated but it's hard to do in this small house. Do you think it's just the Vet smell or the fact that she sees...

It was -37 in the night with windchill and actual -7 when I got up. AND the woodburner had burned down and the furnace didn't come on. It was 25 in IN the house when I got up, in a panic! I had to run down in the basement and push the start button on the furnace. It's about 2 1/2 hours later now and the furnace is still on and the burner finally is hot again. OMG this is too cold! The water in the kitchen is froze up. Thankfully we could get hot water in the bathroom for coffee. Do I have to...

"Fourth day and pup are fine. Mama is even getting frisky on occasion. We've moved the family to a quiet hallway corner as she does NOT want to have anything to do with the resident dogs. Probably a carryover from life on the street for who knows how long!" I think I am in love! Look at the expression on momma's face in that first picture, she looks so contented. And those babies! I would love to be able to hold one and smell the puppy breath. You are doing a great job...

I know there are some horse lovers on this board. Has anyone ever heard of a medication that slows a horse's metabolism so they don't eat so much? If anyone remembers my thread about a girl we know who has horses and neglects them, this is just another installment. She has 3 now, just bought another, and plans to get 2 more. She already doesn't feed them enough, or properly, and now says she's going to get some drug that slows their metabolism so she can feed them even less! She...

Hi all. I've posted numerous times re the cat we adopted that the people up the street left behind when they moved. His name is Frankie and he is a Burma Cat. Just wanted to let everyone know things are starting to go alot better then they were. I did get "Fellaway" and I don't know if its that that did the trick but he suddenly seems to like his new home. He hardly cries at all anymore to be let out. He just wants to 1. play(he goes crazy chasing a shoelace!), 2. Be pet, he can't get...

In this morning's email was a list of lot number's for the recalled peanut paste/butter and "pet food paste" was on it. It was in the 35 lb. tub size that would go to manufacturers of pet treats/food. It may be a good idea to not give your furbaby his or her treats if peanuts is listed on the ingredients. Better safe than sorry. Just a friendly heads-up!

My vet has recommended this procedure for my 7 yr old sheltie. I'm very leery about it mainly because of my own sensitivity to dentistry. I just can't imagine putting my dog through that, even though she has minimal tartar and would only need minimal cleaning (said the vet). Vet said this would be the time to do it before it gets to the point that she would require anesthesia. I'd like to know your (your dog's) experience with it. Was it traumatic for your dog (or you)? My dog is...
