has anybody bought a zhu zhu pet to entertain their real pets? I am thinking of getting one of these robotic hamsters to entertain a kitten, and my son needs something for his Shih Tzu to play with. They cost $8 each and if the real pet is going to destroy it in under 5 minutes I don't want to spend the money Is there a good indestructible robotic toy that works for pets? I told my son maybe he should just buy a Roomba vacuum cleaner to entertain the dog, but that's pretty price, too.

Today we adopted a little Westie girl from a local kill shelter. She is older, she has cataracts, she's a bit stiff when she moves ~ but she is just a joy to have around! She goes for her grooming on Monday. For now, she has that scruffy terrier thing going. Here she is gazing out the patio doors ~ 'Where Am I?' Link

BLAH!!!!!! Sweet mother of every disgusting taste in the world...Dang it, its terrible & I can't get the taste out of my mouth, last thing to try gargling with bleach..lol I was feeding the cats this evening (their wet food) and when I cleaned off the counters I must have missed a piece. Just a little while ago I was getting a piece of chocolate pie...Thought a crumb was on the counter, stuck it in my mouth...What a wake up that was. First thing that ran through my mouth was, thats what...

OH MY GOODNESS! Look who just walked up our drive and into the garage. At least it's 35 degrees out right now and not 1 degree like the other day. Poor kitty. I'd hate to be out in this weather. I've seen this kitty around before, and believe he has a home in the area. He looks well fed (from seeing him from afar). But, I ran a little dry kitty food out to the garage for him. If he doesn't eat it, the garage opossums will! But, isn't he pretty?

This one is easy, what is the oldest some of your cats have lived, past or present? A female Calico named "Jackie Mookie" of mine lived to 21, and her brother Jay Jay at 24 is stilll alive and a little slow now but other wise in good health, although when he is sleeping and resting I do look at him twice to make sure he is still breathing, really, and when I leave the house for part of a day, he is the first one that I look for when I come in the door....

My seven year old Lab, Sequoia, has always been a food thief. If you leave bread on the counter, she snatches it. Same for butter. And you don't dare let leftovers come to room temp. My philosopy has always been that that is who she is. Other than that, she is perfect. She doesn't beg, never gets human food from us, and obeys all the commands she taught us, even with the children. Down, stay, heel, sit, out, quiet. My hubby, on the other hand, is very frustrated. He set some burgers out...

Hi All The vet gave me steroid ear drops for a bad infection in my dog's ear (he is a small dog, weighs 10 pounds) And it is a bad infection, I thought he had a big bug stuck in his ear, that's what it looked like, so I ran to the vet, but the big black thing in the ear was the infection. Vet told me to wear gloves when putting them in his ear, and to watch and see if the dog gets sick to his stomach. I'm a bit scared to use the drops, has anyone used steroid drops for their dogs ears? If...

I'd never heard of it before, The ingredients read good enough for a human to eat! YUCK (not really) I found a great deal on it at Big lots yesterday and bought 4 cans. Googled it and not quite sure what the consensus is about it. Anyone use it or know if it's okay to feed my elderly collies that have stiff joints? Gotta run, but I'll check back later to see if I need to go stock up on it! If you knew Him like I know Him, then you'd know that He's alive!

Long story, but I'll try to make it short. A woman that works the night shift cleaning the deli was charged with animal cruelty a few months ago because of some horses she had let starve and get in terrible shape. A couple had died and a vet had to put one down because it had gotten caught in some old wire and was torn up pretty bad on top of being way underweight from not being fed. Donna, her husband, her 18 year old daughter & her 21 year old boyfriend plus Donna's best friend Carmen were...

I'm not sure if I mentioned it here before, but the Hubby had taken classes to be a state licenesed nurse's aide. The class has been over for awhile and he just went in a few days ago and took the final tests. Well in the mail yesterday was his State license card. He passed!!!! I'm so proud of him. He's in school now for building maintenance {elec., welding, plumbing, etc.}. This is a long 9 month class. As some of you know he lost his job of 19 years over a year ago or so. He's been...

So Cal residents only. I have the max # of cats I can keep. Due to foreclosures in the area, 4-6 stray cats have appeared @ my door b/c the owners apparently just bailed on them. I refuse to call the pound b/c they kill strays in my county in a short time (3-7 days- conflicting reports exist). Cats are as follows: 1 orange male (like morris the cat)- approx approx 6-12 mos., 2 striped males- approx. 6-12 mos, 1 grey female (just had 3 babies- I cannot currently find the babies), 1 black male-...

I have spoken to a couple of people who say they probably would NOT get a dog from a shelter, so I'll tell you my story. My son wanted a puppy so badly, he was 8 years old. We live out in the country and it's quite a drive into town so I got on the phone to the Humane Society, Told them I want a puppy, don't care if it's a mix breed or what. They told me to call about every other day and check. About the third time I called they said they had a puppy that was found wandering down one of...

I just wanted to encourage people who might be trying to do this for the sake of your cat's health and having trouble. It IS do-able! I posted on here a few weeks ago for suggestions because I'd decided to try. My cat had been a stray and would only touch dry food -- at first only Purina, but I gradually got her onto the Natural Balance. But at her checkup the vet said she was mildly dehydrated, and my last cat had kidney problems when she got old. I knew wet was better. Well, it was...

We have 3 dogs a AmStaff, Am. Bulldog and a Boston. We recently added a YorkiePom to our crew. The 2 large dogs love her and they get along really fine, but our little Boston, does not like her AT ALL, and sometimes snaps at her. She (Rainey, newest), seems to want very much to play with the Boston, but she (Shady), runs away from her. She chases us,and the other dogs all over the house and backyard, but Shady wants no part of her. Any suggestions?!! ~:o)

How to Avoid Emergency Vet Visits this Thanksgiving mercyThe holidays are stressful enough without having to make a trip to the emergency vet. With Thanksgiving approaching, the ASPCA has published info on what holiday foods you should avoid feeding your cat. Sure, a little well-cooked, boneless turkey is okay as a treat, but other common foods are poisonous to your pet. Here’s the list: Turkey If you decide to feed your pet a little nibble of turkey, make sure it’s boneless and...

Hi Everyone, My 93 yr old grandmother is now in a nursing home and I have her 12 yr old cat. It's been about 20 yrs since I've had a cat and I have no clue of the best food to feed Kitty now. My last kitty passed away at 21 yrs old. My grandmother spoilt Kitty alot in every way lol and only fed her Fancy Feast Dry and Wet can food. I've heard this is not very good for her. Kitty is also a bit overweight, she's about 14 and a half pounds. I'm worried about her weight over taxing...

My Aunt was asked by a friend to watch her daughter's puppy while her daughter and family moved out of the state. It was supposed to be for 6 weeks, and this weekend they were going to come back for her. Well, her friend called her, and said they no longer wanted the dog. My first thought was, how can you move 3,000 miles away and not want your pet with you? Then I was outraged because the daughter did not have the nerve to call herself and ASK if she could keep the dog. A bit of...

I have noticed most of the sellers auctioning food coupons, are listing coupons for the worst kinds of cat/dog food you can get. With very few exceptions, most pet food available for sale in grocery stores, is not good food. If you read labels, one of the first ingredients is usually corn. To my knowledge, dogs and cats are carnivores. Also, when it says meat by-products, you don't really know what they are using. It could be beaks, feet, feathers, or whatever else isn't used for human...

1. Cats lose almost as much fluid in the saliva while grooming themselves as they do through urination. 2. Charles A. Lindbergh left his kitten, Patsy, at home in 1927 when he made his famous transatlantic flight because it was “too dangerous a journey” to risk her life. But a kitten named Jazz crossed the Atlantic on the first dirigible flight from England to America. 3. Bouhaki, the earliest cat name on record, dates back to Egyptian writings of 2000 B.C. In the hieroglyphs of that...

Hi!!! I have been thinking about getting a hamster. My dad is a woodworker for a living and has a buttload of sawdust that I could use for bedding. Which types of wood are best for bedding? I know to stay away from cedar. I think Dad uses a lot of pine and oak. What about shredded newspapers?? Is the ink going to be bad for a hamster? Do cats eat hamsters? Do any of you have cats and hamsters?? Do you have any advice for me?? Thank you for all of your advice!...

Tuesday, November 3, 2009 PET TIP OF THE WEEK What You Can Do To Help In past weeks I have written about tips to help your pet. This week I want to write about what you can do to help other pets. I hear many people say they wish they could do more or wish they could take in all the homeless animals. Well that is just not at all possible but there are things, little things that you can do that will help in very big ways. You don't have to take in all the strays or even one stray but you...

So I've been scubbing the spots with enzyme cleaner to take the odor away so she doesn't go back to it. We got her last Friday and she was doing great at going potty outside. Hi, I am having the interior of the house painted in three weeks. The contractor said it would take 4 or 5 days at the most (he has a large crew). Since I have a downstairs room that was just painted (by me which is why I am hiring people to do the upstairs), I am thinking that I will just lock up Tinkerbell, the Bengal cat, in that room for the 4 or 5 days for the painting job. She will not like being confined, though the room is big (24' x 15') with big windows looking outside. The...
