HI, all you country/rural folk! Glad to see this new discussion board special for us. We're an Iowa couple who dabble in antiques, especially primitives, and raise a few critters on our back twenty. We like to rescue farm items, give them some TLC, and send them off to good homes. We're lucky to reside in Bridges of Madison County (Iowa) country which is rich with nostalgia, heritage, and great rural estate auctions. We depend on eBay to broaden our market base beyond the great heartland....

Well, just went into town to p/u dog food and the stores are crazy. No batteries or water in sight. I had to wait 20 minutes in line for gas. Luckily for us, I have been prepared all season. I live on the North side of Lake Okeechobee and was hit twice last year. So I come home & check the track of this huge storm and it shows it coming right over us. But who knows where this will go. They are so unpredictable. Only good news, it might down grade to a Category 2 before landfall. If...

Hi, I sold a primitive doll that clearly states in the auction that the doll has been coffee stained and then painted. The dolls usually have a slight coffee smell that will eventually fade away within a week. Now the buyer leaves me a neutral saying it has a strange smell. My question is should I even bother responding to it or just let it go? If the buyer would have contacted me prior to leaveing feedback I would have let her known that it will fade away or I would have offered a refund.( I...

I tried to sell this great little wood carving pattern book, but I had hardly anyone even look at it. I usually deal in crochet & knitting patterns, so I have no clue. I do know I have to put a set shipping price, and lower my starting bid, but what category? etc. Item # 8227892812 It seems like a nice country craft thing, so I thought one of y'all might know. I'm going to ask the book people too. Thanks in advance! Without a little rain, there wouldn't be rainbows!

Thought we could post what we are working on for dinner or supper. Help give each other ideas, also provide hints and tips. I know meal time isn't too bad for me as it is just dh and I. But sometimes I want some variety. One of the things I started about 5 yrs ago was a menu board. That way I know ahead of time(so does he) what we are having for meals. I can make a grocery list right from my menu board. During the holidays new ideas from others would be terrific! Today I am off to the...

If you were a totally prim/country mom...what fabrics would you like to see a baby stroller blanket made out of? I do flannel fabrics mostly, never tried others, these are traditional to our family. I wonder about prim patterns on a baby/toddler comforter? Do you think there would be a market? I know that the frogs, ladybugs, characters etc...sell well, and those I am working on or have sold. The ones in my store are generic a little bit and I want to add something new. I am also not...

Hello again, I'm starting to get addicted to this board! I'm looking for some guidance again. I'm trying to find my father a butter dish just like the one his grandmother kept in her rural Virginia home back in the 60s. I've never seen this magical dish, but from his description it was round, covered, and could hold a whole pound of butter. The round part is the most important. He has a rectangular one at home but i still hear him talk about his grandmother's round one! I started...

I think you folks will like this little story. Rural Kentucky Justice A big city lawyer went duck hunting in rural Kentucky. He shot and dropped a bird, but it fell into a farmer's field on the other side of a fence. As the lawyer climbed over the fence, an elderly farmer drove up on his tractor and asked him what he was doing. The lawyer responded, "I shot a duck and it fell in this field, and now I'm going to retrieve it." The old farmer replied, "This is my property, and...

I have 5 kids and every year say to myself I can't leave this to the last minute - next year I am going to do it right. Well I am excited about it already. Anyone else who feels like me how have you started??I was thinking of getting out one stocking for each child and starting to put something in each every week. My husband is a bit of a humbug about Christmas however I know when I decorate after thanksgiving it cheers up...
