Is anyone else frustrated with the apparent inability of some sellers to specify whether a watch is truely "automatic" as in "autowind" or "automatic" as in "auto-charging" or is it just me... I knew a few watch makers were making auto-charging quartz watches and calling them "kinetic" watches. I was cool with that, since they made mention of their electrical nature. I found a Fossil watch on Ebay last year where the listing said it was an "automatic." So I buy it, get it, and find that...

What should be done if an obvious fake is being posted as authentic? It is only "buyer beware" or can e-bay step in to alert the bidders. In the watch category it can be a large dollar amount. Just a concerned citizen.

--The person in the household who used to set this now stopped-clock is no longer here or available, and foolishly no one ever checked to see how he did it. I am cautious at fiddling around with it. --Any leads? Or is there a publication that helps out?(First pic is obviously sideways.)

Hi, I am considering bidding on a pre-1940 watch that shows some wear. The seller has 99% positive feedback, including hundreds of watch sales. I'm not a collector, just someone who would like to wear this watch. The description says "movement in good working condition." In other vintage watch listings, I've noticed that it's implied that it's only natural that servicing may be necessary to make them keep accurate time. Does the phrase "movement in good working condition" mean that it's...

Hi, I purchased this watch today at an estate sale and I couldn't find any information on it doing a google search. I think the logo on the face says "Story" and at the bottom it says "Swiss Made". It is on a necklace chain and it appears to be older. It is a wind up watch and so far it keeps time. I couldn't find any by this brand on ebay all I get with a search is "Toy Story" watches. Thank You! Please Don't Trip Over the Guard Dog!

Does anyone out there know anything about the Swiss India Watch Company? I know only that it made a chronometre wrist watch called "Jockey" in the '30's. It is a vintage brand. I would greatly appreciate any help you can give me. Even the name, etc. of someone / club / organization who could help me. Yours, Penwolf

The Federation of the Swiss Watch Industry (FH) has voted overwhelmingly to ask the Swiss government to strengthen legal criteria for use of the term, “Swiss made,” on watches. At least 80 percent of mechanical watches and 60 percent of quartz ones would have to be done in Switzerland to qualify for the label, says the FH proposal. According to the FH, 87 percent of its members voted for the tougher proposal and its submission at its June 28 general meeting in Biel, Switzerland. FH members...

In the last two days I have participated in 2 auctions that all of a sudden stop and when you check the listing you get "This listing has been removed or is no longer available. Please make sure you entered the right item number. If the listing was removed by eBay, consider it canceled. Note: Listings that have ended more than 90 days ago will no longer appear on eBay". Some sort of scam going on that I haven't heard about. Both times it has been on clocks I was interested in. Emailed ebay but...

I was browsing and came across these wonderful watches made by "Trias" then noticed that their designs look exactly like the ones made by "Javelle". I know they are booth German Watch Builders. What may be the differance between the two brands. Also is "Trais" a good watch to have. Built with quality?

I only paid two dollars for this "Rolex" watch at a garage salr, so I figure it is fake. I thought I should probably check with you guys before I concluded it a fake. What do you think? It says "Rolex Oysterquartz Day-Date" at 12 o'clock and "superlative chronometer officially certified" at 6 o'clock. It has no markings on the back of the case and the Rolex crown on the clasp. My opinion is that it is a cheap watch, so don't worry about my feelings. TIA, Bryan

Link Yeah, $60 is a lot for a new battery but, even if that is truly the cost for the replacement, the seller is asking $2200 for the watch. Not getting the battery replaced is absurd IMHO.

okay before you start reading this thread I just want to say that the topic is not about a $500,000 fake rolex on ebay, I just wanted to get everyone's attentions. I am new to ebay and needed some sellers tips. I was thinking about selling authentic glam rock watches on ebay. When I search for it on ebay it shows no results. Does that mean now one else is selling it on ebay. If now one else is selling it would it be a bad investment on my part if I list one. The price of these ranges from...

Give me a hand and enlighten me pls. I bought an Omega Snoopy Speedy Pro from this UK seller who has over HUNDERDS of feedbacks, on listing he says clearly 'UNWORN', all original. But what I got is a heavily scratched watch. so for heaven sake, an 'UNWORN' watch doesn't imply it is also in very very nice condition? even if not un-scratched?? Or why seller didn't put 'UNWORN BUT HEAVILY SCRATCHED'!!! WHT protection do I get?? I have again and again cheated by Ebayers around the...
