Why does eBay insist that Delivery Confirmation is tracking?

Delivery Confirmation IS NOT tracking. I do not send the Delivery Confirmation number to my buyers because they then look up the info on the postal service site and panic when they see the info there....they assume that because their is no further info other than the number that I'm scamming them and not sending the item! Why does eBay insist over and over again that "tracking" should be sent to the buyer.....why does eBay call it tracking?....why does eBay falsly lead the buyer with "tracking"? What good is sending them the number when 99% of the time no info is updated on the postal site until the item is already delivered to the buyer?

This is a total waste of my time as well as the buyers and it provokes panic for no reason.

They see this when I print a label and ship their item

One of my biggests issue with these recent changes is that eBay seems to be trying to eliminate all direct communication between buyers and sellers. I have figured out a way to communicate with my buyers when their item is shipped and delivered that has dramatically raised my 30 day dsrs. Which is important b/c I'm a powerseller and those discounts are helpful.

I'm sure I'll find a way to still do this despite their automatic tracking email, but I sure wish they'd let us opt out of it. I see a benefit to this being mandatory for buyers who buy from sellers who currently don't bother to tell buyers that their item has shipped. But for the majority of sellers who do communicate with buyers, it is one more barrier between us and our buyers. Not to mention that eBay has incredibley poorly worded and confusing email messages, ( calling delivery confirmation tracking, putting mutual cancellation in the unpaid item dispute category, blunt you've been blocked messages to buyers, etc) so it's an especially BAD barrier

Hi, the tracking number as you stated above DOES get US sellers in a world of battle with some buyers because they think they can follow transit like you can with ups and fed ex allows you too where it shows destinations and so on... But the USPS tracking numbers do not work until the packages/s have actualy been delivered thus leaving sellers to contend with all the buyers thinking we have not mailed their item and we are still holding on it to, But this is the USPS fault not ebays because the USPS needs to fix this and approve it on there end, so now what I do and found it to be most beneficial and less arguing back and fourth is I send the tracking number with an explanation that says 'just a heads up" on USPS tracking numbers you cannot follow transit like you can do with fed ex and UPs, and I have found that message to really help me with many buyers being confused on why their package is not mailed or where is it, so maybe you can do something like we are doing now and send that message and politely tell the buyer that the usps tracking numbers ONLY work once delivered, hope this helps. But its not ebay or paypals doing its the post office they have not perfected this option like they should.
Thank you
Chrissy
