Who pays for buyer's remorse...?
Apr 28, 2010 10:27 AM
I have a No Return policy on my one-of-a-kind items. I am a 5 star seller and I earn my ebay spurs with a lot of hard work. I bend over for all my customers. I am a perfect seller and work very hard at it.

I would like a reply from a Pink. I have a question on this type of buyer remorse scenario. Who pays for buyer remorse?

1) Buyer sends seller a message from Ebay messages... saying it is the wrong shade of blue for his living room. Or buyer says it does not fit in with his decor and wants to return.

Buyer files a SNAD claim against me saying there is "something" wrong with the item. Who wins the claim? Will ebay accept the ebay message as proof it was buyer's remorse? Or will ebay tell the buyer to send the item back with a DC for a refund?

I always offer to give the buyer my detailed photos and description so he can resell.

Then what happens if the buyer leaves me a negative? Will ebay allow the negative and/or low DSR ratings to stand since it is obviously NOT the seller's fault... that the buyer changed his mind on the item?

What if this same buyer (who changed his mind on the purchase) sends me a message via ebay messages saying "if you don't pay for return shipping, then I will give you a negative". Is that blackmail? Will ebay remove the negative if the seller refuses to be blackmailed?

On the above senerio, I am already out the listing fees and the shipping charge. Now am I suppose to pay for the return shipping charge too? How much money does ebay expect me to lose when the buyer changes his mind? This could be a big amount out of my pocket if the item costs $10... and the shipping postage is around $35.00 on a heavy big box.

So what does ebay expect me to do under "Best Practices" when the buyer changes his mind. Does ebay expect me to pay for buyer remorse? Will ebay stand by the seller during the claim and Feedback process?

If I win the claim, then will the buyer be allowed to leave negative feedback and low DSR's? If so, then why must the seller suffer a loss of ebay status and pay pay pay for the buyer's remorse too?

I am a small seller and need to know what ebay expects me to do so I don't take a loss out of my pocket or a loss of ebay status.

Griff has berated sellers before for not being like Nordstroms in taking returns, no question. Well, Nordstroms doesn't pay for return shipping nor refund on outbound shipping, so if you get remorse, it will cost you as a buyer. Also, Nordstroms does not get penalized by some god up in the sky if they tell an abusive customer to beat it, or just say NO to an unreasonable request. Ebay doesn't feel our pain, plain and simple, and if JD can keep urping up spin on how turnaround is right around the corner to keep shareholders satisfied, he won't either.

Sherlock - They expect you to take this behavior into consideration as simply "costs of doing business".

It honestly doesn't make much difference what eBay says anyway, because all the customer has to do is file a dispute with their credit card company, and they will win.

Even when they do it will be that the new Buyers Protectin Plan allows buyers to return ANY item regardless of return policy (within alloted timeframe of BPP)

Buyers get chastized left and right on certain boards for even complaining that they might have to pay to ship something back. Rarely would a buyer ever get a refund of rfeturn shipping charge.

Hi sherlocksgallery! Buyers remorse is definitely a challenge for both sellers and eBay. Sellers suspicious that a claim is buyers remorse should escalate the claim for review by an agent. Agents will investigate and deny a claim found to be buyers remorse as opposed to a legitimate SNAD claim. This will not be could again sellers in the Seller Unresolved Claims metric. Concerning how buyers remorse affect your other metrics, if you feel the buyer is abusing the system, please report them here. We will remove feedback and Opened Cases counts from abusive buyers. In the meantime, the Standards Team will be working to integrate ways to eliminate all Opened Cases from buyers remorse, not just when we find a buyer to be showing a pattern of abusive behavior. Thanks! -bennie

Bennie,

"This will not be could again sellers in the Seller Unresolved Claims metric"

I'd love to be able to read that as "This will not be counted against sellers in the Seller Unresolved Claims metric"

Can I?

Bennie

Your link for reporting links to this thread, not the report page you intended to post.

Could you tell us IF ebays resolution team either during a dispute or an appeal will accept emails from the buyer to the seller as proof that it is buyers remorse and not a true not as described claim?

Hello Bennie,

Thank you for the generic reply... but I need specific information. After all, that is what this forum is for... right?

I have one-of-a-kind items and my policy is No Returns. Will ebay support me on Buyer's Remorse Claims?

Can you give me detailed replies to my examples? I need to know how ebay will rule on these specific type of claims from the examples I listed.

Actually the millions of ebay sellers reading this thread would like to know too.

Thanks,
Sherlock
