AdCommerce - getting started and tips

Nov 6, 2008 10:08 AM
Welcome to eBay AdCommerce!

If you have just registered, and are looking for some best practices on how to get started, this message is for you. We hope the following tips will help you start your campaigns and get results faster.
Also don’t forget to check our Getting started video on AdCommerce.com, for an illustrated step by step of a campaign creation.

Want to create your first campaign?
1. Login at AdCommerce.com
2. Then click on "Create a campaign"
The "campaign" is like a folder, into which you can arrange several sub-campaigns, called ad groups. You can have one or many campaigns, and into each campaign, one or many ad groups. You decide your cost per click and you create your actual ad at the ad group level.
3. Submit, and wait for the results! It will take a couple of hours for us to validate the ad and display it on eBay; you should start seeing impressions and clicks soon after.
Important: don't forget to enter your payment information (credit card or direct debit). Your ads will only appear on eBay if you have payment information on file.

Should you use keyword or category targeting?
You can test both options, and see which one is driving the best traffic, but as a rule of thumb:
- If you want a broad exposure, you should create Category targeted campaigns.
- If you prefer to be more targeted and only reach users looking for specific products, use Keyword targeting.

How much does it cost? How much should you bid?
Don't overpay! The traffic should be very affordable because there is not too much competition yet; so we recommend that you bid low as you are getting started. You can verify after a few hours if you are getting enough impressions. If you are not getting enough impressions, you may want to increase your Cost Per Click.

How to create a good ad?
Creating an ad is very similar to creating your title for your listing - you want your ad to be attractive and representative of what you are selling.
- The title should be short and descriptive.
- Use the description lines 1 and 2 to give more details about your products - be specific!
- The display URL is a short, nice version of your destination URL. It will let visitors know that they are staying on eBay.
- The destination URL is where you want the visitors to go when they click - it should be your store URL or your listing URL.
- Adding an image increases the click-through-rate! We recommend that you add a picture of the product that you are selling.
