Destination URL

Oct 13, 2009 9:58 AM
I'm new to eBay Adcommerce and I'm trying to create my first ad.

I am entering a Custom URL to my web site landing page as in:

www.mysite.com/landingpage.html
(note: this is not at eBay landing page)

but I get the following message when I click "create Ad"

"The destination URL you have entered is not currently allowed. "

I have read the instructions for entering custom URLs and I would assume that adcommerce wants me to link to my eBay item page. I understand this. But then how is it that when I click on other ads (from my competitors) that the link takes me directly to their web site (not ebay). Is there a workaround or tip someone can share.

Thanks in advance.

Okay, so as of right now, most AdCommerce users can only use the Custom URL feature to direct buyers to a URL within their Store that is not featured directly under the Destination dropdown. For example, if you as a seller feature thousands of perfumes or designer fragrances, and you would just like to advertise your Chanel listings, this feature would allow you to copy and paste the URL from your Store page (when you use the Store search to find only your Chanel listings) and make that the ad's landing page.

The verbiage is misleading to an extent: "Custom URL" does imply the ability to link anywhere, even outside of the eBay community. Also, and this might be obvious to you and if so I apologize, but the off-eBay linking is the largest distinction between Sponsored Links and Sponsored Results. The former are text ads created by other Search Engine Marketing programs other than AdCommerce, such as Google's AdWords. The latter are only ads created using AdCommerce. And finally, I believe a few/select sellers do have some capabilities in AdCommerce that most others do not yet have. Perhaps because the tool is still relatively new, some features are being offered in Beta versions to the highest paying or grossing AdCommerce users. For example, the AdCommerce Blog recently mentioned that an ROI tool is being tested on select sellers; this may be the same case with off-eBay linking. They may have the ability to use the Custom URL feature to actually link off-eBay; but they are the exception.

Hope this helps.
