I'm furious!

Oct 12, 2009 9:46 PM
Long story, but I'll try to make it short.
A woman that works the night shift cleaning the deli was charged with animal cruelty a few months ago because of some horses she had let starve and get in terrible shape. A couple had died and a vet had to put one down because it had gotten caught in some old wire and was torn up pretty bad on top of being way underweight from not being fed. Donna, her husband, her 18 year old daughter & her 21 year old boyfriend plus Donna's best friend Carmen were all charged and the horses were taken away.
I've worked with her for 2 years and she's constantly getting puppies and after a couple of months, she'll post a FREE DOG poster to get rid of it. She would go to livestock auctions and buy cheap horses and then let them basically starve and never get vet care for them.

Donna told some of us at work that she had several other horses and had moved them to another place so the authorities wouldn't find them.X-( She also had a few dogs that she got rid of.
A few nights ago, she came in all excited because she had just gotten a new puppy! She showed me a picture of it and it looks like an 8 week old beagle/lab mix. THEN she told me she had fed it spaghetti for it's daily meal because she can't afford dog food!!!!!!! WHY would a person get a pet if they can't at the very least feed it??? (She has her hair and nails done every week, but is about to be evicted from her apartment because she can't pay the rent and she never has anything to eat herself)

Well, another girl and myself are fit to be tied and are going to report her as soon as we figure out who to contact! I know it's going to mean trouble at work, but I will not sit by and see this adorable puppy mistreated! Another lady that works with us, is married to a county constable, so I think we're going to get him involved and let him talk to his pals at the sheriff's office.

What the heck!?!!? GOOD! REPORT HER! People like her are a waste of life! Honestly, what does she gain by having horses and pets that she can't take care of? What is wrong with people these days?!!?!?!?

Talk to the ASPCA there or call the police again since she already has been in trouble. They'll probably remember her!

good for you. I would absolutely report her on the next business day. Noone at your work has to know it was you and it might be safer and easier if noone did know it was you. If this woman has this much disregard for innocent animals who knows how she or her family/associates may act towards humans who have reported her. IMHO I would contact your local spca or equivalent. Good luck. People like this are disgusting in my book.

Wow, what a piece of work. She needs mental help. Can you get the puppy away from her? Like say you'd love to have it. Yes, report her now! That's enough of this carp. Some people just keep getting more and the animals suffer. Hoarders! Our elderly neighbor is/was this way. I don't think they have new ones now but I don't know what's in the house. I refuse to go in there right now. Has to be infested with fleas.

She wouldn't let anyone have it right now. it's till in the "cute" puppy stage. The lady married to a constable should work today, I'm going to talk to him and see if he will take care of the situation or if I need to personally call the authorities..

what a piece of work. She needs mental help I try not to judge, BUT she has more issues than a professional could fix! You don't want to get me started on her personal life! LOL!

I talked to the constable yesterday and asked if he could "put a bug in someone's ear" about Donna. I was told that she isn't even supposed to have a goldfish!
Come to find out that the man (main dog catcher) that will have to investigate the situation, is one of our regular customers! To keep my name out of it (to save from having problems at work) I'm going to have my step-daughter report the problem.

COLORFEATHER...I admire you for reporting this person...it's the only thing a REAL animal lover would do. I'm curious though...why are you worried about it causing trouble? This woman is certainly in the wrong, and deserves punishment. Is she really mean, and you fear retaliation?

Donna has the worst temper of anyone I've ever met! It takes very little to set her off on one of her rages and she yells and curses at the top of her lungs like a lunatic!! And that's at work!!

IF she finds out that I have anything to do with her being reported, it's hard to imagine what she would do to retaliate!

She told another girl that works with us that a neighbor boy saw the puppy and told her that it looked awfully skinny. She told him that it just had long legs! She keeps this 9 week old puppy tied to a stake in her yard! She has another dog and at least one cat.

I hope when they investigate the situation, they take all the animals and give her some jail time. All she got because of the horses was fined a small fine and has to do 50 hours of community service (she's doing her service by working at a Salvation Army store) GEE! That's pathetic for starving a bunch of horses to death!

Re: I'm furious!

I think I am about to become a very, very unpopular person here. I feel sorry for your co-worker and people like her. I feel just as sorry for her as I do the animals she hordes. Please don't misunderstand me here. Her animals are at her mercy and what she is doing is cruel. I don't argue that. But what makes me feel sorry for people like her is that this is an illness. It IS mental illness. The fact that she has such an uncontrollable temper is a symptom of the illness. It's a bit more visible because she carries that around with her, whereas she can hide animals for a long time and people just don't know.

A couple of years ago i started reading about people that hoard animals because I wanted to understand WHY they do this to animals. What could make a person so cruel to take an animal and cage it up among other unspeakable things. I have learned that this is the same illness as people who collect junk or wont throw anything away. there is something that is lacking in their lives. For people that hoard junk, maybe they didn't have anything before, or lost everything before, so now they feel a need to collect so that they can have what was missing. There is a NEED for her to have animals and she needs help just as much as the animals she hordes do.

I often joke around and say I like animals more then people. My guess is people that horde animals say the same thing, only they take that to a much more serious level. A person like you and I are in it for the animals. People like her are in it for her but tthink about it. An animal cant say cruel things. An animal can't laugh at her. An animal no matter if starved will still seek her affection and make her feel good about herself. Maybe she is missing something in her life that she needed just because she is a person. Maybe she wasn't shown affection by people. Maybe she feels unloved deep down. An animal can give her what she craves, and A LOT of animals can give her A LOT of what she craves.

Do NOT get me wrong. I would report her in a heart beat, but I would also hope that someone would help her. Mental illness is mental illness and this woman is sick.

WOW Mari! You described Donna in detail! She is about 40 and had a terrible childhood and life in general. She has never felt loved, pretty or wanted by anyone.
She has no idea who her father is, her mother died when she was about 13 and she was adopted by her uncle that evidently didn't want her, but felt it was his duty to his sister to raise Donna.
She got pregnant at 20 by a 16 year old boy and her "parents" forbid her & him to see each other and raised Donna's son (Sam) as "their's". Donna truly loved Brian, but he was told (by Donna's "mom") that she had found someone else and didn't want to see him again.
She met David and married him just to get away from her parents. Somewhere in all of that she got pregnant again with a daughter, Leigh Ann. Evidently she has had a miserable 18 year marriage and they are divorcing. She has been having an affair with a married guy at work and seeing a 22 year old guy that lives in her apartment complex. All that while still living with David!
Now Brian came by and told her that he's getting a divorce and wants her back! She has lost a lot of weight and is fixing herself up, but her mouth would make a sailor blush! I don't know how she keeps from getting fired for cursing and going ballistic on the job!

Anyway, we're not having much luck reporting her. I don't know her apartment number and the authorities say they can't check the situation out without an exact address. I don't know how I'm going to get it, but I'm not giving up!

If she is getting a divorce, the complaint is a public record. Most counties have an online search (the majority are free) that will give the name and address of both parties involved in a complaint. If you want a copy (with all the ugly details), it is usually a per page charge, but the parties involved are listed without having to pay anything.

You can also call the apartment complex. Chances are she ddn't pay a pet deposit and if she is a horder, she may have more then the apartments allow. Also, IM thinking if she was convicted of cruelty to animals, that should be on file and the complex probably did a back ground check So if you were to call and say this co worker of yours has a dog, they can check and then call the police and report her. Then it comes from the apartment complex and not you guys. :)
