Prayers Please for Feral Baby

Nov 2, 2009 10:29 PM
Hi all. We need your prayers again. I went out with several people today to move a feral colony. This kind of job takes sometimes several weeks. Anyway there was one feral boy that offered NO FIGHT. He hissed some when I picked him up and put him in a cage. Now if you know anything about ferals, there is no picking them up, at least not at first. He was laying on the ground, cold to the touch and didn't offer any fight at all.

He looks to be about three months old maybe four but he is very small. Nothing but bones. He was the only one I got because I rushed him to the doc. He has been wormed and had some tests. Doc thinks really the only thing with him is that he is young, its cold, and he is starving. But that is REALLY BAD. Doc actually was very grim. The kitten did not fight me, did not fight him, he just laid there. His heart beat is strong and after we warmed him he seemed a bit more alert.

I am feeding him every 2 hours. He eats only a few bites at a time and I follow that up with kero because I am afraid he isn't getting enough to sustain proper blood sugar levels. But we fear that we may not have got to him in time. He is just so wobbly. He walks very shaky on his feet and has found a corner to do his business so I know that his organs are working but his stools are like water.

I haven't cleaned him yet because I am concerned that he has had enough shock for one day. He seems content in my lap, but that is because he just doesn't have the strength to get up and move.

You can see how weak he is in the face. I am so concerned about him. Would you please pray for him?

Thank you.
Mari

Good luck with him. Sounds like he is lucky to have you.

Mari, With my former feral Gimpy, He was dumpster diving the pizza joint in across the street.

Until some horrible person beat him within an inch of his life with a broom stick. X-(

He LOVED pizza until the day he died....at the ripe old age of 17.

Yay! Something tempted his tummy!

That's really great to hear about his interest in fish and being eager for it. Wonderful energy so soon after being rescued.

He's such a beautiful little guy. If he's made it this far, he should do ok.
In 2001, my DD, found a little kitten, who looked about like yours in the face, all eyes and ears. He was so weak that w/any exertion at all, he was short of breath and collapsed, panting.
We loved him and fed him, and now, he's a healthy, well fed, spoiled guy, named Diablo (for his black fur) and really lives up to his name.

Prayers and good wishes for you and your little one. :)

Mari, all of my cats love fish. When I eat sardines (yes, I love fish too!) I sit on the deck with the dogs inside. Of course I share with my kitties. If the dogs were there nothing would be left!

I have always been a big supporter of fish. Of course now you have to worry about Mercury contamination. I just read an article today in my Drs. office about how the Omega-3 fatty acids can fight off depression, and help with brain and eye development while increasing the immune system.

I would suggest that you get some inexpensive, but farm raised fish from the supermarket. Maybe a catfish (no pun intended) or wild caught salmon, even LAKE (not Ocean, too salty) Perch. Brown it slightly in a dry pan, then add water to cover, sliced carrots with the skins, and maybe a slice or two of celery. If you have some peas in the freezer, put those in too. Boil it until the fish flakes off, then try that with him. He will probably love it.

Tell him it is your french specialty, so he should not expect it all the time! Use any leftovers over the cat food, just for flavor and to get him eating other foods as well.

The slanted eyes bothered me a lot, Diddy and Miss Walker had slanted eyes when I took them into the vet clinic last week with fevers. It went away when the fevers came down.

as I posted on my influenza note, I just found out tonight that H1N1 has been diagnosed in a cat, at the University of Iowa vet school. Something to consider when you find a sick cat.

Wonderful to see Will is feeling much, much better, Sounds like He's out of the danger zone and hopefully it's going to be smooth sailing from this point on! One of My kitties is a reformed feral dumpster diver..when I first started to leave commercial foods out..He ignored it and still went for the trash cans, then I started to squeeze the water out of the tuna cans onto the kibble..and He decided that was good eats..Now He only wants dry kibble, turns his nose up at canned & home cooked..I didn't think My cooking was that bad! Can You post more pic's of Will? Would Love to watch Him grow!

Since he was treated for worms I would make sure he ate alittle yogart to put the good tummy flora back. Don't want that making him feel bad.

Yay for little Will!!!

Do you have a Petsmart near you, Mari? If so, go and buy him some freeze dried Salamon treats. You can break it up into little pieces and see if he will eat them. They are loaded with the omega-3 fatty acids and are really healthy cat treats! They are made by Beefeaters. Nothing artificial in them.

The "powdered" bits that are left after the big chunks are gone can be mixed in his food to give it a fishy flavor.
