Good question.

Also which format did Ebay finally decide to go with? I have seen 2 or 3 different versions.

I don't want to finish tweaking my template until I know which is going to be the final format. (right now I've opted to use no template at all because the new item page was breaking my old template).

And how do we keep the old, faster view item page, instead of the new, 'improved' pathetically slower view item page?

If a seller opts to NOT show his or her competitor's items on their pages, will the sellers OWN items appear?

Why are we not being allowed to control our Cross Promotions any longer?

Yes, you can opt out of merchandising your items on related item description pages. This means that your items would be merchandised on the description page for your items and not those from other sellers.

From the FAQ (http://pages.ebay.com/sell/newitempage/index.html):

As a seller, can I opt out of this merchandising?

Yes, but if you do, your merchandise will not appear on other sellers' item pages, so it's important to consider the tradeoffs.

To change your cross-promotion settings, go to My eBay > Account > Marketing Tools > Items Promotion Summary

You can also change your cross-promotion settings on My eBay > Account > Site Preferences > Promoting Similar Items on eBay Pages and Emails > Marketing Tools > Items Promotion Summary.

Can we have some specifics about the actual pixel width of the new View Item Page. I have read your announcement and "FAQ", which discussed it vaguely here:

Are descriptions going to be 710 pixels wide?
No. Although we did announce this during eBay Live in 2008, we decided to revisit this change. Descriptions will now be flexible width with no size constraint, the same way they are currently.

While we now know it is NOT going to be 710 pixels, we do not know how wide the description area IS going to be. This is necessary information for those of us who are using templates. An existing template will sometimes not translate to this new View Item Page without scrunching up and throwing off design elements of the template. I have checked this in the beta version of the new page that's been available to view for quite some time now. It scales out to be somewhere between 920 and 940 pixels wide. Can you confirm exactly how much width we are going to have to work with?

Thanks!

Who is going to make sure the buyer clicks each tab before placing a bid?

Will there be a check box verifying that the bidder understands and agrees to all of the seller's terms, and that by bidding they intend to pay for the item if they win, even if they won the same exact thing a day or hours earlier, and that they will pay within the time fame set by the seller?

I just chose the new view to see what my auctions would look like. The seller information is off the right side of the page. The Store Categies left hand column is gone. Will these problems be fixed or is this the way it is? I cannot figure out how this size variables thing works. I tried to edit my listing so that I could play with it and can't find it.
What are we, the seller, losing in all this? Is there more than what's listed above? Will the above items be like that or do you have some tweaking to do?

Why are the high bidder name, listing start time, and About Me icons being removed from the auction listing?

Are the About Me pages on the way out?

newt49,

They are doing away with the listing frame (left nav) and giving store owners a whopping 4 categories to show on their listing header instead.

All I can say is that eBay has not heard the ols saying "If it is not broken......Don't fix it!"

That is a big improvement--thanks.

PLEASE add back the eBay Store categories navigation bar for the seller on the right OR re-do the horizontal bar to show MORE categories (this can easily be done).

Also, I'd like the About Me icon back as I click on that frequently when surfing the site.

On a positive note, I DO like the much-larger picture that appears at the top of the listing.

We will add the AboutMe icon back to the pages.

High bidder ID will be available to the seller when he or she is signed in (not there right now). High bidder ID is currently available on click-through to bid history.

We are considering some changes to store categories treatment based on some feedback we've had recently.

And one thing I just announced in a thread about pictures: self-hosted pictures will appear in an enlarge window as actual picture size (we're downsizing them in the enlarge layer right now).

Add me to the list who wants as many store categories available as possible.

What possible harm is it? I have over 15 flamingo towels, doesn't it "enhance buyer experience" to be able to chose to look at them if they are interested in flamingo towels? Ditto Oriental, sports, etc.

At the top of the new view item page (when viewing your own items) will the same links be available for sellers?

In the old view I have these clickable options:

You have 1 question to answer
Add Skype Chat and Call buttons to your item
Send to Online Auction | Send to Fixed Price
Revise your item | End item
Sell a similar item
Create shipping discounts

NEW VIEW: For the same listing I only have one of those options

Revise you item

I hope that you will be adding these options back.

And for 30 day FP listings it would be great to have an End item button and a send to store or auction button. These options are not currently available on the old or new view, but would be helpful for sellers.

Hi Laurie.

Yes, we'll be adding most if not all of that back to the seller view.

We haven't considered the 30 day FP request you just mentioned, but now that you mention it, we'll consider it. ;)

Ceril,

I haven't been over to the eBay-hosted Item Listing Page discussion on "Auction Listings" board in quite a while, since Subha abandonded it months ago... is the New Item Listing Page your baby, now?

It says "New eBay item page. For the past year we've been testing a new page that puts your item "front and center."

But the item is NOT front and center. It's on the left side, as usual.

Is the item pic going to be moved to the center or not???

The phrase "front and center" is an expression that was meant to connote "more prominence." The images won't literally be in the center of the page. The enlarge layer is going to change so that it becomes a window that can be moved and resized by the buyer, who can position it on the page wherever he wants.

Ted, I haven't visited that forum either. ;) You may see me over there at some point, though. I am now one of several product managers involved with the item description page so one of us will swing by within the next couple weeks.
