How come shipping DSR's are not grayed out if the seller using PP Shipping?

Hello Ebay Pinks,

All ebay Seller would appreciate a DETAILED reply to these DSR questions.

I use Paypal Shipping for all my shipping needs.

1) SHIPPING TIME STAR
Ebay/Paypal knows "when" I ship... which is same day or next day in most cases.

So WHY are the buyers allowed to rate my shipping time? The buyers are rating me on "how long it took the post office to deliver" their ebay purchase. They are not rating on how long it took me to ship their purchase! This star should be grayed out if I ship within my TOS and use Paypal shipping. My TOS is 2 days and I ship by the next day after cleared payment. So how come this shipping time star is not grayed out since ebay knows exactly when I ship?

2) SHIPPING CHARGE STAR
Ebay/Paypal knows "how much" I charge for postage... since I use Paypal Shipping. I take a big loss on shipping because the charge does not cover shipping supplies. Shipping boxes cost me around $1.25 to $10.00 depending on the size of the item. I charge within 50 cents of the exact postage and never cover the cost of my supplies. This star should be grayed out since I am using Paypal shipping and ebay knows HOW MUCH I paid for the shipping. This shipping star should be grayed out if the shipping is within $2.00 of the actual postage cost in Paypal shipping. So how come this shipping charge star is not grayed out since ebay knows HOW MUCH I charge for shipping?

3) FREE SHIPPING
The Shipping Charge star show be grayed out when the Seller offers FREE SHIPPING. How come this star is not grayed out when the seller offers FREE shipping? What is the point of allowing the buyer to rate this star if they are getting FREE SHIPPING?

In case you have not noticed... ebay sellers are leaving ebay by the thousands. They are waving goodbye all over the boards. Most of it has to do with the impossible expectations of ebay and DSR scoring. Ebay needs to take a look at this impossible scoring if they want to keep these unique item sellers.

4) What is the difference between "Satisfied" and "Very Satisfied"? I get "Jumping for Joy" Feedback and ratings lower than a 5 in my DSR's from some buyers.

So what do I tell my buyers when I BEG for the 5 star rating? How do I explain the difference between a "Satisfied" and a "Very Satisfied" rating if I don't even know the difference? What does "very" mean and how do I explain it to the buyer?

I need time for listing and selling. I want my listings clean and organized. I only want information on the item I am selling in my listing. But now you are saying you want me to BEG or EDUCATE the buyer on how the buyer needs to give me 5 star ratings in my listings so I can continue selling on ebay? Why?

How come it is my responsible to take a 1/2 page of my listing to educate the buyer on how to rate DSR scores on me?

Why am I required to BEG the buyer for 5 stars so I can continue to sell on ebay?

At what point does ebay accept the responsibility for their own actions on this impossible method of DSR scoring? Thanks!

I'd like to hear the answer to this one too, as one would think your suggestion is a no brainer...

You won't get a pink answer but here's some reasons why you can be rated even if your shipping cost/time are stated up front/free:

SHIPPING TIME:
1. Seller's handling time is excessive (e.g. 5 days) and seller takes as long as he allowed himself
2. Seller only offers Media Mail, buyer can't upgrade to Priority at buyer's cost for faster delivery
3. Seller promises Priority Mail, actually ships by slower FCM or Media
4. Seller prints label on Day 2 but actually drops it off on Day 5

SHIPPING COST:
1. Seller states shipping by Priority, actually ships FCM or Media
2. Postage due
3. Poor packing esp. if handling fees were charged

And eBay's reasoning for both which I don't agree with:
E. Buyer can buy even if he disagrees with the original terms, and use DSRs to indicate unhappiness with the terms

I'm not sure how a seller with a Feedback of only 31 can have a major problem with the rules of play?
It's all about the Customer and not about you ----
1.) Meet and exceed Customer expectations
2.) Charge a fair & competitive price for shipping --- if you can't make money...... don't bother with the listing.
3.) I have not "noticed" eBay sellers leaving by the Thousands --- do you have access to some data that the rest of us aren't privy to?
4.) Never beg for DSR's --- do a stellar job of satisfying the Customer and the DSR's will come without having to beg.
5.) Focus on the Positive

I've been here for years, and your #5 is about the only thing that produces benefit. #2 is no guarantee of 5's for shipping as even free shipping gets less than that, although your second piece of advice is correct. I've noticed #3 in spades. Most of my favorite sellers are gone, gone, gone. I buy surplus, and understand what "AS-IS" means. My buying pool has nearly competely evaporated. When asked, the sellers I've relocated have said they were losing their shirts here with SNADs and loss of outgoing shipping, so were compelled to go elsewhere.

By the way, Bayside, many people post here under IDs just for that purpose, so appear to have low feedback. Folks like us who post under their actual selling ID are rare, for fear of retaliation. However, the amoung of actual seller IDs posting in this special Changes forum has been abnormally huge as I believe sellers cannot believe how deaf eBay remains to their concerns.

I agree that the DSR needs tweeking.

I had one sale within a three week period. So I know where my DSR came from. Buyer was happy, left positive feedback, My shipping was exact and I was dinggggged on the DSR. Also item was shipped day after payment.

I do this part-time. Outside of here my job keeps me away from home 14 hours a day.

In my listings, I state allow 10 days fror shipment of cleared payment. Most of the time my items are shipped within 1-3 days of payment, due to my work schedule and one of my family members being ill.

If I am stating in all of my auctions to allow 10 days for shipment of cleared payment, why should I get dinged for this. This ship time is always a part of my listings.

This buyer had a very low feedback. I feel that newer ebay buyers, do not fully understand this rating process.

Another thing that is aggrivating. You wait 3 to 4 days for them to pay, then you get dinged on your shipping time.

I think you should have Detailed Buyer Rating. Do they pay promptly. That would probably change a lot of things.

You sound like an ebay cheerleader with all this meeting and greeting? Ha! I am here to make money and that is the reason I am selling on ebay. So if the only reason you are on ebay is to meet and great customers, then that reason is okay too. I am friendly but basically I am here to make money and it is getting more difficult with all the roadblocks ebay is setting up for sellers. I send out several notices per sale and get extra info for gardening customers, offer free fancy gift wrapping etc. I spend a lot more time than I should helping customers. I expect 5 stars from each of them because I earned it.

I have to be rocket scientist to understand how Search works...while actually I am just a senior trying to make some income. The old ebay was fun watching the last minute bids with fair rules for buyers and sellers. This ebay for sellers is like walking on broken glass with a hole in my pocket.

This is one of my posting IDs. I don't come to the boards with a selling ID. I have been on ebay for a lot longer than you. There are a few problems with using a selling ID on the boards... with members messing with listings of the poster... and you can read about it in the Seller's forum of why many of us use posting ID's, buying ID's and selling ID's.

I am glad you are doing so well. You are lucky. You sell mostly new items ... and can just send another one out right away. It is a little harder when you have one-of-a-kind collectibles and vintage... and they want 20% off because it is the wrong shade of blue or they threatened your feedback if you don't give in with paying for return shipping too. I am not a department store or a bank. Then when they ship it back they don't use any packing and it arrives in pieces... or they ship back a rock in a box. There is no seller protection if they have an online DC. And I am always out the listing fees. I have been lucky so far. Ha!

INSURANCE: Another trend is that the buyer will not cooperate with an Insurance claim and buyer mails back the smashed item to the seller instead of showing the post office or sending a picture for 3rd party insurance. And paypal gives a refund with no investigation. So even if the seller buys insurance, the buyer is not required to help with the process of the insurance claim. I should start a new thread on this issue.

And that return shipping cost is a monster to pay if they expect return shipping because they thought it was something else and hold feedback over your head as a threat. I had a couple of these. It is kind of hard to work with a buyer that is threatening with the first email. I am a TRS but probably not for long. Ha!

I am a 5 star seller and bend over backwards for each customer. I pack for a trip around the world and same day or next day shipping and still my shipping stars get dinged. I just want some answers from ebay on those shipping stars and ebay never replies to these questions... but I keep asking at each round table.

Go into the seller's forum and you can read all about the latest buyer trends and the threats some sellers are coping with. You can read the comments of all the sellers leaving in the Sellers forum and the other boards too. You need to read the boards if you want to know what other sellers are doing.

I never mention the word feedback or DSR stars to a buyer and no wording in my listings either. They leave what they leave. Ebay forces me to block any buyer that leaves me less than 5 stars as I cannot afford to keep them as a customer. So the same buyer will not have the opportunity to ding my stars again.

These new rules are nothing more than giving the buyers more power to get discounts and free items etc. ... go figure

I just want some answers from ebay on those shipping stars and ebay never replies to these questions... but I keep asking at each round table.

My favorite sellers looks like a graveyard. Most of the sellers stopped listing. The ID is still open but no activity or they list a few things just to keep their DSR's.

Baysidetoys

You have a product that sells mass quantity! Games are #1 in either electronics or other forms. Try a product that sells very slowly. Then have an opinion and throw out your "be positive" garbage! The system is set up for you and obviously you don't want it changed as you are a Top Rated Seller getting 75% of the of the buying public seeing your advertisments.

One more thing Baysidetoys!

I never post under this ID however ebay is fast dieing for us, so using a lesser ID rating does not matter anymore. Ebay was at one time as much as 20% of our business now only about 5%. Don't know where you have been looking as your head is in the "Elite Top Rated Seller Clouds" But Thousands upon Thousands of sellers are gone!
Went with them, the BUYERS!!!!!!

Also you don't have to beg for DSR you sell enough popular products your bad service is being burried as fast as you deliver it! If you sold a slow selling product on ebay you would not be singing this all mighty tune!

Great questions. We have presented ebay with these same questions via customer service. You know the ones getting minimum wage to repeat a preprinted explanation!
Anyway the Pinks will not answer you as we must all face it they are thinning out sellers! Their plan is obvious as to avoid law suits they are systematically getting rid of sellers and only keeping the few elite that sell the majority of products. Thus allowing them to sell more and not having the competition.

Ebay is not unable to understand what our complaints are they just don't care, they have a bigger picture in mind.
The best thing is to not give them the time and energy there are so many other avenues that pay so much better.
The days of good old ebay CEO's is gone the Socialist have arrived! Get used to it Americans!

Hello Ebay Pinks....

Can I get a "detailed" reply from an Ebay PINK on these SHIPPING STAR Questions? I have detailed questions in #1.

How can I use "best practices" on the shipping DSR's if I used Paypal Shipping? Ebay knows I ship within 2 days and they know my postage charge is less than cost. Yet ebay allows the buyer to ding these 2 stars. Why?

Thanks, Sherlock
