Any ideas on the history of this koala?

OK, I know that koalas aren't really bears, but hopefully this is close enough. It may have been bought by my friend's dad while he was in WWII -- he was in the Pacific, so maybe he went to Australia...?

Can anyone tell what kind of fur it's covered in? The fur is falling apart, I'd guess because it's old?

Any thoughts on whether it's hand-made or mass-produced? There are no tags. I couldn't find one like it on Google image search.

Any guesses on the value?

Thanks!

It looks like rabbit fur to me.  Things like this were mass produced as souvenirs sold to tourists.  It probably did come from Australia.

Thanks Bethy. Rabbit fur crossed my mind too.
