Could someone help me identify this early bear?

He stands about 14-15" tall, has a flatter face with low set metal shoe button eyes and + shaped stitched mouth, velvet worn paws, and a slight hump in his back. He is fully jointed with round discs?, has a worn cloth tag sewn into the center seam, and is firmly stuffed, no evidence of voicebox in belly. We rescued him from an antique store about 20 years ago. Thanks for your help.

Please take another full-length picture straight on. He's at an angle so it's hard to see some of his dimensions. Also, a picture of him from the side (side profile) would be helpful, and a picture of him sitting down. Also, what is he stuffed with?

Gotta be Knickerbocker - he looks very similar to one I have - same clor and length of mohair.  Knickerbockers in the 1930's and 40's had a white tag center of the chest and did not have shaved muzzles in the earlier bears.  Wide head, large ears, and oval velvet pads all say Knickerbocker to me.

Thank you for your assistance. We have been wondering who made this unusual bear.

Here are photos straight on and sitting. I think he is stuffed with the rock wool or excelsior. I have a very loved bear from my childhood with glass eyes and the straw filler and it does not feel like that. He is very firmly stuffed.

How late were shoe button eyes used?

Here is the side profile and one of the hump. He has a very flat face, with a cross (stitched) mouth, added later, since the knot for the stich is at the bottom of the cross. The mouth is also set very low compared to most bears.

I looked at the chest tag with a magnifying glass. Looks like Knickerbocker - on the left side is the first part of the "Animals of Distinction" tag. Now to figure out which year.

Thanks again for the assistance.

Sometimes the tag itself can help date them if you can read the information on the tag - but this bear is likely from the late 1930's or 1940's.
