Hi everyone... I found what I think might be a good find last weekend but I'm having a reall tough time finding any info atl.  I thought someone here may able to help. I found this guy at a local

thrift shop for $3.99 last saturday. Hes's labled as a Gund Design and tush tag shows 2000. What little info I did find didn't tell me much. Does anyone recognize him at all. I know these aren't the best pictures so i can take more if needed.

Thank everyone!

Shoot... forgot to mention a few details....he's about 24" from snout to tail, extremely soft and more realistic looking than mose plushes you see. I don't see an item number or a name on the tush tag but next to it is a small white tag with 08N67. It looks like a grizzly bear for the most part but not like the "mama and baby" Gund Design bears that I saw. Hope that helps!

Your bear appears to be plush, not mohair, and unjointed and typically bears like that do not hold much value.  It is not old so probably not rare or sought after.  You can check completed Gund auctions to see what similar bears go for.

Thanks for responding bethy. I do realize the bear isn't mohair or jointed but this isn't a regular Gund bear.

The Gund Design label lasted a just short time from 2000 to 2003 and produced only a small number of items each year. The detrail is incredible and he's so like it's scary. Plus the term plush has a whole new meaning now that I've help this bear! Cuddly Collectibles is the only website I've seen any of these guys for sale on and I still can't find anymore general info on them at all. Not even a mention of the Gund Design name. Now I'm not familiar with Cuddly Collectibles but their store seems nice and they do have quite a few lines to choose from in the plush catagory and the have three Gund Design items for sale. A 24" Tiger for $150, a 34" Lion for about $170 and a 32" momma Grizzly (different from mine) and her 17"cub and purchased together they want $349. They claim the Bears were an extremely limited edition where only $400 were made.

So these aren't your typical Gund bears and that's why I'm so excited and frustrated about it!

Oh well... I'll keep searching and if I find some information about the line I will certainly post it here.

Thanks again bethy!

Hi there, he looks like a Gund Designer Pup. You can contact Gund directly with a picture and they will be happy to look through their catalogs. I have done this a few times and have gotten great information from them. He is a cutie!:)

hi,

i was wondering if you had any success identifying your gund design bear.   i too have a bear from that line, altho it is a different bear than the one you pictured.

did the folks at gund help you identify your bear, and have you had any success in determining its worth?

thanks!

I, too have a pair from this series. The large one is "Ursula - white Polar Bear" and her leather tag reads in part "From the Gund.Design Collection, the ultimate in soft sculptures. This extraordinary creature symbolizes a dedication to excellence known as the Gund touch."

I worked in a stuffed animal store called Noah's Ark, in the Dallas Galleria for a while. These were the major purchase I made while there, for around $700 with my discount. This was back in the early to mid 1990's....so the line ran before 2000 but ended in 2003.

They were a "big deal" with leather paw pads, made to be very realistic. Slight airbrushing of brown on paws, as real polar bears show. The Gund Design logo has a dot at dash-level between the words. The editions were limited. I can't recall to what. I fell in love with the bears, and was not thinking in terms of re-sell. I was young, and the purchase was 2 months' rent for me! We only had three, and I sold one and bought the other two...and got tons of praise from the owners.

Ursula was the "big" one, maybe 45'', and the smaller one was perhaps 30"? I renamed them Bogdan and Vladi, so I don't even recall the small one's name.

Sadly, they were damaged in a very serious house fire in 2010. In trying to figure out insurance value, I was stymied by the lack of a presence in the secondary market. They don't seem to be mentioned much, and I guess the buyers are holding, or maybe a few stored to resell, as the website mentioned above did.

All my pc files were lost, so I don't even have a good picture to share. I continue to hope someone will come forward and post pictures of a collection that includes this line...they were so magnificent. The bears were most lifelike.

I will never forget leaving the mall when I bought Vladi, carrying him under my arm...someone stopped me and wanted to pet him, mistaking him for a live pet!
