Help with a bear please
Jul 29, 2012 06:29 PM

My wife and I found this bear at an estate sale today,  We've learned a lot about bears on the internet today, but can't quite identify him yet.  :)  This was an older lady that also had a lot of books from the 1800s - 1930s.

I noticed Frodo responded to a post yesterday. I have to thank you already, as I found a post from you on here from 2007 (about Helvetic bears) that went a long way towards our knowledge of what the bear might be.

Here are some photos of him:

He is about 18" tall, has long wavy mohair, and 4 claws on each paw and foot, which are velvet.  He has a music bellows that still works, although I can't tell what the tune is.  He has 5 joints, and we can't quite tell but it appears he might have a faint light blue hue between his joints (can't tell if he has faded or if it is dirt).  We can't find evidence of a tag or label anywhere.  If looks like his nose is intact and was supposed to be that bat-wing type shape, and he never had a mouth.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give us!

Oh yeah, he's Helvetic. He's beautiful. When I see that people have a working musical bear, I always wish that I could hear the tune!
