Help with Bear ID Please

Could someone please help id / share any thoughts on this teddy?

- 50s or early 60s, I think

- dark brown, jointed, very solid / heavy

- very little give if squeezed (does not crunch)

- stiff short pile / velveteen like fur 1/8" long

- black plastic eyes on cream felt circles

- 13 1/2" long, 4" chest diameter

- firmly stuffed

- twill like paw pads

- no label

- no growl

Thank you for any thoughts! I've been researching forever and can't find anything like it.

I don't have any pictures in my bear books that match him, but having seen a couple in antique shops, I'm going to guess that he could be a Chinese "Shanghai" company bear.

Your teddy might of been made by American Character. Are those eyes black metal buttons w/felt behind them? I've seen American Character teddy bears and monkeys with similar eye treatments. Your teddy's body shape resembles an AC teddy I used to have. The bear I had was covered with short mohair and had wool felt paw pads.
