Re: Bidding Board General Non-expiration CHAT

Good morning, Shady!

I'm trying to decide if I want to bid on something later.

I found a set of painted miniatures, and one is an old ral partha Air Elemental. I'm only missing that out of the elemental set.

But.

It also includes a clay golem. Like the elementals, these were packaged in 2's for a total of four minis. The clay golem will mean I'm then missing the half of that set, the flesh golem.

Getting the air elemental would be nice to finish off the elemental set, and it's prolly going to be cheap... but after splurging on my Hanzo sword I've been trying to keep a tight reign on my spending.

I can live without the elemental, but I also wouldn't mind closing off that set.

I'm so torn. :-p

Today is the 500th anniversary of John Calvin's birth. The church service today featured a church member dressed in a Geneva gown and looking as if he were Calvin to the life--as if he had just stepped out of a history book. He was "interviewed" for the sermon, speaking some French words with a Southern accent. It was really fun!

Raptor, thank you very much.:-x

Okay, now I want to share this............. I had lost 22 pounds since Easter. I have a number of them to go, however, I can see the change in the mirror. I have purchased a belt today to keep up my new cutoffs I purchased this spring. I haven't told anyone except ONE person what I was doing. She hasn't seen me in a while. Now saying that................... NO ONE HAS MENTIONED, "Have you lost some weight?" Gee, wouldn't someone notice????????????? But then why would my DH? It took 2 full weeks for him to notice when I had dyed my hair RED! I have gone from a tight 16 to almost a 14. In fact, I just started with one item that IS a 14. XL is rather big on me now. One person came up to me at work (a man) mentioning that another person lost a lot of weight. He looked at me sort of puzzled. All I can think of my family isn't paying any attention yet and my co-workers don't know if they dare........... afraid that I have cancer or something??????? No, I don't have cancer that I know of.

Saying that in the past when I attempted to lose weight I would lose 10#........ plateau and then gain it back. My body would always shift to another gear. For nine months I walked 4 miles about 5 days a week. I walked at a good pace. Oh, and they noticed the weight loss then!

This time it is different. I am losing. Not fast but am losing. Anyway, NO ONE HAS MENTIONED IT!!!!! :_|:O:(X-(X-(

Thanks, now I feel better.

Hello (((Biddies)))

(((Raptor)))
J'aime beaucoup "le chat"... Please don't eat it! :^O

(((Lampy, PD, Bron)))

Congrats (((Mistrain))) on your weight loss!
22 lbs! Well done!!!
Don't worry about people not saying a word about it. They are bound to realise one day that you are getting slimmer. You can already rejoice for having done so well. Imagine their face when you will be able to tell them "Yes, I lost weight.... I actually lost so many lbs!"

Re: Bidding Board General Non-expiration CHAT

Well, mistrain, that kinda sucks that nobody has noticed your effort. But in my opinion, at this stage that may actually be a good sign. It tells me that you're doing it the right way, more gradually, and that in turn tells me two more things:

1. That you're serious about it and committed to it
2. That ultimately you will very likely not only succeed in your effort, but you will be able to maintain it.

I'm of the opinion that most of the challenging things we do, big or small, ultimately aren't done for other people. There may be certain rare individuals who work that way, usually very dedicated selfless types (like, say, MLK), but most of us dedicate ourselves to big efforts for ourselves.

You mention that you've tried before, and have experienced something of a see-saw effect. None of those attempts were failures. They were only opportunities to learn how to do it better. Often the initial motivation for people for things like this (your experience may vary) is that they have to do it, and this is why it's so difficult. Eventually this has to give way to a realization that you actually want to do it.

Now these are not necessarily clear-cut, and people who must may also desire or people who desire might also must. But in the end it is the desire to do it, really for your own personal gratification, that will give you the strength to do it.

This element is clearly one you have, I can see it from here and I'm literally many miles away. I will salute that (raises coffee cup) because that tells me you're strong. Maybe even stronger than you thought you were. So the goal, m'lady, is yours. The road might go on for a little bit yet, but you own that goal. You owned it from the minute you decided to get back at it and give it another damn good try. All that remains is to finish what you started.

So as your buddy Raptor, I give you serious props. Do it for the person it matters to most, do it for yourself, and do it you definitely will.

It's a solid Raptor guarantee.

Good evening my fellow chatter-ers.
(((Biddies))) both here and in the more tropical place.

A special hug for my beret-ed one. (((Rappie)))
Always brings a smile to my face.

For those of you have never had to do it before, find a nursing home placement for a friend or relo. I say, 'how lucky are you?'
To those (((Biddies))) who have ever had the stress of making it happen, I say 'How did you get through it without losing your mind?'

It brings you face to face with the inevitable, no matter how far away that may be in the future for yourself.

I have had success and placed one of the couple in the home and on Thursday this week I will be booking her husband into the same Aged Care facility.
It's a great place but like most hospitals/nursing homes anyone who has lived their lives with privacy and dignity preparing to hand yourself over to a team of full time carers is daunting.

Having said that it is a great place, full of fun and activities so I am grateful I got them in at all.

As all the baby boomers get older the task will be even harder unless our government starts some serious building to accommodate the numbers who will be needing care in the future.

Cheerful no?

Starting again.

Good evening my biddie buddies.

Hi, {{mistrain}}, {{CG}}, {{rose}} and {{raptor}}.

{{mistrain}}, I wore drawstring shorts and slacks while I was losing weight. I dropped several sizes without realizing it until all of a sudden, nothing fit and I mean nothing! You are doing really well. That's a lot of weight to lose.

{{cg}}, how was the second wedding? {{GD}} has been a bridesmaid in two this year and has been the wedding planner and photographer for one. Lots of pictures and she has had a wonderful time if the photos are any clue.

{{rose}}, as the resident senior citizen on the board, nursing homes are a consideration. It's also the reason that the movie "Up" was so depressing when it was supposed to be amusing!

{{{Biddies!!!!}}}

Sounds like a great church service, Lampy. A long time ago, when I was a church-goer, our church had a minister who did inventive/educational things from the pulpit. Alas, he was replaced by someone who sleepwalked through outdated Bible-as-story-hour sermons and the church just died. [Literally - it now has a whole new Korean congregations].

Mis, congratulations. 20 is not an easy number to reach, no matter what your goal is. I am delighted that you are doing well. But I will give a counter to a previous post. Drawstring/elastic waist pants can also be the devil because they let you add back on without noticing. When you are on the downward path, add a few "fixed waist" items so you can see continued progress.

I seesaw back and forth with trying to up the activity level while my knees find new and inventive ways to make that a bit difficult, but I'm plugging along, mostly not watching numbers. Which is probably a good thing because I don't think they're doing anything inspirational yet.

Movie report - I pulled a couple of oldies for the holiday.

1776. I really enjoy the script and the music. If anyone out there enjoys it as much as I do, I recommend that you take a peak at the director's cut on Netflix. There are scenes that are not included in the movie as it was released - some extra street scenes, a bit more political dialog, an extension of the song "Cool Considerate Men" - I'm betting that was a more exact rendition of the number as performed on stage.

Smile - a film from the early 70's I think. It's about the teen contestants for the California division of an American Miss pageant, done in vignettes, some funny, some slice of life. Bruce Dern and Barbara Feldon headline on the cover but there were all sorts of now familiar names in the cast. This goes back to the period when state-level beauty pageants were fun to watch, primarily because they had such AWFUL talent competitions. I remember the ones in North Carolina going through a streak of what they called "Spanish tap dancing" (flamenco). This will make anyone growing up in the 70's a bit nostalgic. [I didn't think to pull it out, but another film, of higher caliber but related theme is the excellent Holly Hunter movie - "Miss Firecracker".

{{gpyle}}, I actually got some reading done in the midst of my needlepoint: "The White Cascade: The Great Northern Railway Disaster and America's Deadliest Avalanche", which I loved because we have been to the area and also, what could be better than reading about snow falling during the July Florida heat? I found another mystery book in my pile: "Sacred Cows" by Karen Olson featuring an intrepid reporter who loves to eat. It was better than I expected.
