Re: BRING MONEY ORDERS BACK TO EBAY!

Those of us that have a good feedback rating when paying with them should NOT have to suffer because of those that don't. Its the buyers responsibility to cancel any bid that they think will not be payed. The paypal only rule is possibly illegal and excludes those that can't get credit because they are disabled and don't make much money or just refuse to deal with those that have gotten the world into such a bad banking disaster. Now then.. i await a response from someone higher up giving me a valid reason why that option was taken away.

Buyers responsibility to cancel if they think will not be paid? Shouldn't that be sellers?
Ebay owns PayPal, & they make more money by wanting that payment type be the only one accepted.
There are sellers that strictly abide by that, but there are also many sellers that will accept a different type of payment if you ask them about it. They can get in alot of hotwater if they state in their listings they will accept any other type of payment, but many still will if you ask them. Many sellers are not happy with the PayPal only rule, & are quite upset that ebay is trying to force that on them, & no one can blame them. It should be their decision.

If there is something you want to bid on, you can ask the seller if they will accept some other form of payment. Some will and you can bid there. That being said, it is e-Bay's web site, so they can set the rules.

My experience in using the internet to buy is that credit cards or Pay Pal are the accepted form of payment.

I don't think they got rid of money orders because of bad buyers. Aside from the owning Paypal thing, I think they got rid of MOs because of bad sellers. Buyers have plenty of recourse with Paypal and their credit cards if the seller doesn't ship or ships junk. With money orders, their recourse is slim and none.

Yes, I do agree, that two consenting adults should be allowed to assume that risk if they want.

Some people buy ebay gift cards to pay for purchases.

That said, I agree that sellers should be able to list any form of payment they accept, be it paypal only, money orders or cash.

I don't sell very often, but a few years back, I had someone send me cash for an item. I would never send cash to a stranger, but it should be an option.

eBay could give a fig less about either buyers or sellers. The 'Paypal only' gambit was implemented to positively impact eBay's bottom line. It's all about the money...

there is no 'paypal only' rule

ebay offers 3 or 4 choices to sellers as to what type of electronic payments they can accept. therefore, no monopoly, not illegal in any way.

The last time I used a money order I was ripped off. That was 4 or 5 years ago. I received absolutely nothing and there was nothing I could do about it.

I don't do credit cards either. I've had Paypal attached to my debit card/checking account for years. I've never had a problem with them.

I don't know that there is anyone left online that accepts anything other than a credit card. A lot of them do accept Paypal. I've ordered flowers, auto parts, toys...Walmart.com accepts Paypal. I probably sound like a commercial, but they make internet shopping so convenient.

No it does not. You do not need a credit card to purchase anything on ebay. Go to your bank and get their routing number. You can add that routing number along with either your saving, or checking account numbers and you will be OK to purchase through paypal without a credit card.
I await a response from someone higher up giving me a valid reason why that option was taken away.
It was not taken away. Sellers just can't advertise another form of payment. Many sellers will still take money orders. You have to ask them.

It's easier to track a Paypal payment rather than a money order being sent via USPS regular mail.

If someone is disabled, it would be easier to use Paypal rather than having to obtain a money order.

You dont need a credit card for paypal, just a bank account. If youve got the money to be bidding on ebay, youve got the money to get a bank account.

Most merchants will accept payments made by means other than credit cards.

I think its a scam, If a seller agree's to take a check or money order it should be up to the seller. Ebay should not enforce paypal only, The buyer has to pay fee's for paypal, no fee's for money orders or checks. Nothing wrong with accepting a postal money order, or personal check.

Wow, have you got a lot wrong there.

It is not "paypal only". There are other types of payment that are allowed.

Where did you get the crazy idea that the buyer pays fees to paypal? Where did you get the idea that buyers don't pay fees for money orders?

No, there is nothing wrong with accepting a money order or check - if the buyer asks.

EBay just got tired of all the buyers who were scammed because of mailed payments then whined to eBay about it, expecting eBay to protect them when THEY were the ones that chose to use an unsafe payment method. Now, if they get scammed, it is TOTALLY not eBay's fault.

Money Orders can be accepted by sellers, if contacted, and they agree. Sellers just can't advertise the fact. It is noteworthy this didn't start happening until ebay bought paypal. They want to collect every fee possible. If anyone is worried about using a MO send it with DC, signature required. That is proof enough to get ebay to act in an INR dispute.

I used MOs hundreds of times in the past, and was only burned twice. On one the seller became NARU. The other ebay dropped the ball completely. The seller would set up an ID sell a few cheap items, then list a highly desirable item, take the money and disappear. A month or so later they would start again. Since the item was in my searches, I would be notified when it was listed. It had the same photos, and the sellers address was within a three city area. Even with contact from 4 buyers, ebay allowed this to happen 6 times that I counted.
