Rob - given the percentage of the collection sold through Freeman's, does it make you wonder if H. Richard Dietrich III went through Christies on behalf of the Foundation rather than as part ofhis late Father's private holdings?  Here's hoping that the buyer allows the book to tour in the fashion of Mister Gates, rather than simply hiding it in a vault.

I feel roughly for Freeman's like you do National.  That said NY was definitely a better venue for this guy.

Oh to be in the room with such a book, sit and look at it for as long as I would like, appreciating everything about it.

For the auction record geeks like myself.....is this a price record for a non illustrated, printed work of non-fiction ?? I can't think of anything even close.
