Advice Column For Newbie Booksellers Suggestions On What NOT To Do

Jul 28, 2003 10:35 PM
I thought maybe some of you old timers (as in book sales experience, that is!) could toss out your best quick advice for new booksellers on what NOT to do/sell on Ebay.

Here's my two cents:

Readers Digest Condensed books are worthless . Zero. Zip. Zilch. Nada.

Book Club Editions are usually worthless, but there are some exceptions. The more experienced booksellers can probably explain this better than I could.

There are several good, free used book sites on the internet where you can check to see what your book might be worth.

Crap is not a cuss word. Words may be impolite or low, but are not thus automatically cuss words. If I wished to swear a blue streak, crap is not a word I would choose to include. It lacks strength.

That's right.

It's a variation of a basic economic principle known as "Gresham's Law"

Gresham was a wise soul. Reckon (Texas word meaning, "Do you think...") he was ever in a Goodwill Store?

Hi all. I don't see a topic for Bookseller's Tech advice (already tried online tech "help" chat - worthless!) so I thought I'd cross my fingers and try a post here.

Just put up my Store and began listing. It seems Turbolister does NOT support Product Details when populated by EBay's catalogue default values. At least, that's what the chat non-help insists with regard to the BOOKS/Collectable/Fiction category. This makes NO sense. I see many Stores with obviously pre-populated product details data. Further, EBay's own HELP page USES Books as a primary sample for illustration purposes for this capability! When I point this out, they just freeze up into imbicile repetition until surrender ensues.

Am I getting good chit-CHAT Help, or am I just getting shit-chat?!!

Thanks ahead of time for any real advice ahead of time!

- Bill
