.

Which edition do you have?  The Second seems to be priced higher across the board, which usually suggests that it was enlarged or corrected.

It doesn't say, so I'm assuming it's the First.  I see that it's available now as a searchable computer disc, which isn't selling at $7.99 on eBay,  My copy is in very nice shape, with only cover edge wear and bumped corners.  I paid $1 at a FOL sale, so it won't take much money to turn a decent profit.

There's still quite a lot of people out there looking for real books so don't discount it too deeply right away.

I would think that information not wanted to get lost, like family records, would be one of the categories where people would want a dependable book. Rather than a disk where the format could change next week let alone fifty or a hundred years from now.

I have genealogy books passed down from my Grandparents and I plan on passing down my local history library someday, or donating it.

This is the most extensive genealogical history I have ever seen.  it covers the ancestors and descendants of this man from 1500-1960.  He's not even royalty.

So far I'm thinking I might park it on The River for a few months.

It might give me an edge if I count the pages and state that it's collated and complete.

It wouldn't hurt to try the book here first, you can get multiple bids here but not at The River.

I agree with Indian I would try it here as a 10 day auction over two weekends.  If it does not sell move it to the river.

You may want to include family locations and allied families in the description.  I would also offer to check the index for names.  I have sold several books after I tell someone their ancestor is in the index.

Genealogy books can be slow movers.  I have some in stock which have an alphanumerical code and I stopped using that system 20 years ago.

Since the first & second edition have the same number of pages I bet the book was not revised but just reprinted in 1994 due to family demand.

Good suggestions all.  There are numerous web pages dedicated to this family's genealogy, not because anyone is famous, but because their records are so complete that apparently thousands of people are involved.  I'll definitely take some time to research more before I list it here.  Meanwhile, it's listed and not sold at $200 on several sites.  I may leave it on Amazon at $175 while I research.

There are also versions listed as print on demand (which kind of surprises me because the book was originally published in 1964, apparently).  The asking price for those is in the $98 range... but some people prefer original editions of things like this.  It's apparently out of print, but I wouldn't think that would allow others to reprint the entire work since it would still be under copyright?  Maybe others can inform me more about that.

This source is also available in an online searchable version to Ancestry subscribers.

Update:  I left it on The River for a while at $100 and nothing happened.  I lowered it to $65 and it sold today.  I was surprised that it sold at all and I'm happy.
