harrumph. Flying contraptions. As far as I'm concerned there is no place on earth to which destination is worth the hassle of flying.

Anything approaching a billion is just downright obscene ..... unless it be my billion.

What I really want to know is ... can the executives take dictation?

let me get this straight

6 months ago they tell these companies they can't pay back the loans,

and now they tell these guys that they can't make a living because they didn't pay back the loans they weren't permitted to pay back?

meanwhile, industry economists are predicting a credit crunch for the next 3-4 years

what, exactly, did my billions buy?

I'm kinda extrapolating here, but I'm guessing you own about 1/1000 of one share of Government Motors.

There's been either requirements or incentives to take certain courses and majors for years--ROTC, for example, and the NDSL program encouraged education as a major with its loan forgiveness program. There's probably others as well.

The federal government can do just about anything it wants to under some provision of the constitution--even dictate wages as we saw under Nixon.

In some cases, they already pay for med school if the student commits to a certain number of years in public health--some would call that dictating majors, although only to those who can't afford it on their own, since those who can pay can do what they want.

If the government can dictate executive pay...

What more proof do you need that there is no god?

Or, if there is one, that it's not on our side?

so what you're saying, KW

is that my billions did not buy stability in the credit market, which was promised by Obama and Bush and the Fed;

is that my billions did not secure the jobs and careers that were threatened by the credit crunch, despite the promises by Obama and Bush and the Fed;

is that my billions did nothing to return any value to my retirement package, since inflation (not real value) is what is going to drive the recovery of GNP to positive numbers

all it bought was a coupla obsolete manufacturing companies that were better off blown up and recycled?

Any remember monopolies?
I barely remember history class chapter about the government stepping in to bust up Standard Oil.

It is not new that the government will act to smooth out the playing fields.

Executive pay has become obscene in some instances.

Has anyone heard what the government is going to do about the sports and entertainment industry income caps?

B-)
