Just my opinion, but I would let it run. As above poster said, this person knows it is worth more than their offer. Good Luck.

At the top of the board is a link to the board rules. It falls under Some Examples; "Advertising" current sales or auctions, etc...
Link

Of course, it's understood that the OP was looking for guidance or input for his specific situation, which he received from a few folks.

From what I've been told, It's generally understood that beyond that is considered "advertising". Bringing interest to your auction.

Biblio's comment certainly helps to explain WHY.

I'd probably take $2500. I've turned down offers before that weren't met by subsequent bidding. 20% of what the higher-end dealers are asking seems reasonable to me.

I wouldn't do a BIN, however. The fees are much higher than on auctions. I'd go for a private sale.

Now that, I'm fairly certain, is verboten.

I'm aware of all of that but cannot figure out how it "illegalizes" any and all discussion about an active listing. one would think that if they wanted to prevent any discussion of an active listing, they would simply say that any discussion of an active listing is bad. But they don't say that.

Frankly, Biblio's comment confused me. But, it's his/her business.

I agree with you. It's sort of the like the union contract I worked under. A lot of the rules and regulations were nebulous. The district interpreted them in ways in which they weren't written. It kept the union stewards and lawyers busy.

If discussing current auctions was allowed, then the forum boards would become raft with advertisements for this or that auction. They would transform from discussion boards into another channel for marketing one's wares, and all sorts of methods would ensue to bring attention to current auctions.

If you are predisposed toward disliking those who disagree with you, then I heartily disagree.

I asked a very similar question a while back. The reason for my asking it was because I wanted to know the answer.

There still appears to be some sort of confusion about the distinction between discussing a listing and advertising it. Some folks seem to be of the opinion that there is no difference.

I think that it's because so many have used these discussion boards AS free advertising.....it's a shame.

You think that it's bad here? Visit the Antiques Board when someone advertises...they barely get out alive!

Wow, that is cool, OP!

I agree with those who say not to end the auction. I don't think I have ever seen someone let it ride and then get LESS than the offer they refused.

Can't wait to see how this auction ends.

I see little distinction between asking the question about the book now, or asking about a book 'that I am about to list'.

Both can be advertisements. Both can be legitimate questions. I think reasonable folk believe this to be a legitimate question.

For the record: this was exactly the advice I got when I asked, and it turned out to be correct.
