Selling Old Textbooks as mixed group?

I tried selling a couple of History books, American People by Mussey and American History and Government. I had a lot of people look, but no bids. In the future should I just lump all the textbooks as a "lot". I have 1913, late 1800's and 1930's History, English (Mother Tongue) and some health books. Don't know which way would be best, or just forget trying to sell any textbooks. Thanks

I have sold some old textbooks, but with varying degrees of success. The textbooks that have sold best for me include very early textbooks in good and better condition; textbooks that are illustrated - zoology, botany, astronomy and other earth sciences; old history books with lots of old maps (I had one do well that had lots of maps of the battles of the Civil War and illustrations of the generals on both sides published in the 1880's) and first editions of popular textbooks. But even these books did not sell for big bucks. If you are going to sell in a lot I would suggest that you group the textbooks by subject.

I agree, group by subject. Some people are interested in early books in their professions, but wouldn't want to pay even media mail shipping for the otehrs.

Textbooks are listed in Bookselling Guides as a category to bypass...Of course individual hot subjects always sell. For myself i wont go near Textbooks or Romance Fiction!

You don't have to sell every book you buy. You have to consider what your time is worth. I'm not saying don't try, but if the book is a loser, lose it.

Textbooks can surprise you. Security Analysis looks like an old high school tome, but it's worth a shot. And there are plenty more out there like that. But look it up before you write it up. Don't waste effort.

Life's too short to sell bad books.
