Signed Book Question

Signed Book Question

I picked up a signed copy of The French Key by Frank Gruber this weekend at a thrift store.  I always look for signed books in thrift stores but almost never find them.

No dust jacket and there's problem with the binding at pages 42-43. It's signed To Charles W. Snyder with the best wishes of Frank Gruber.  No missing pages and it's copyright 1939, 1940.

I'd post pictures but no matter how much I shrink them it won't let me post them.

I found a few signed Gruber books in my searches and they were listed around $35.00. I'm wondering about the value of this cop?.  I don't know if one signed book is worth more than another. I didn't find any signed copies of The French Key.

There are some plusses and minuses. This is Gruber's second novel (following Peace Marshall) - a plus in that it's early. But the absence of a dust jacket is a significant minus. Perhaps you could snag a reasonably priced unsigned jacketed copy and perform a ceremony to improve your outcome. Also, you don't specify the problem with the binding - a split gutter? This will affect value as well, especially if it's not easily repaired, and it's difficult to suggest a value without knowing more about this.

FWIW, a ca. 1950's signed Gruber title in a dust jacket sold on eBay in the last few months (after multiple attempts at a higher price) for $30.
