time to meet tracking requirement
Jun 19, 2012 10:58 AM

In case anyone didn't get the email from ebay it said, in part,

"Since we announced updates to the eBay Top-rated seller criteria in February, many Top-rated sellers have said they need more time to meet the new requirement to upload tracking within handling time on 90% or more of US transactions. We've heard your concerns and want to give sellers more time to make the needed changes.

We are extending the time for implementing the tracking upload requirement by one month. We will begin counting tracking for achieving Top-rated status as of June 1 (and not May 1 as originally announced)."

I just bet they heard "concerns".

Starting May 1—get up to 2,500 FREE listings* every month with an eBay Stores subscription

eBay has reduced the upfront cost to sell for Store sellers! With eBay’s new everyday rate plans, you get from up to 150 to 2,500 FREE listings* per month—no insertion fees, auction-style or fixed price—with an eBay Stores subscription. You pay a final value fee only when you sell! Plus, the final value fees for Stores have been streamlined to just 5 competitive category-based rates as low as 4%—and never more than 9%—regardless of how you sell.

Are they going to reward those of us who did the work and meeting the requirements now?

Here's hoping they decide to change it back to the way it was, or at least 2 days.

I'm thinking about switching back to 3 days for the rest of this month!!??   Maybe I can have a little time for myself...LOL

It's not like you have to type in those tracking numbers. Buy postage through PayPal and the upload is automatic. Use anything else where the purchase is made electronically, and the worst case is cut-and-paste.

I'm more concerned about making ratings contingent on shipping method and performance. Anyone else pause when they heard:  "...as long as it's delivered within four days." ?

In October of this year eBay will institute new requirements to keep your Top Rated Seller status and your 20% discount. You will be required to ship the book before your buyer even knows he wants to buy it. It's called Psychic Tracking.

On another ID, I had a combined multi order so sent a free book.  Got a neutral from that newbie because they already had that book.

While I have been prepared for the changes for a long time, I am glad that not only did ebay extend when the new requirements would take effect but that I went on vacation early this summer! First one that we have taken in several years.

I just checked my Seller Dashboard and found that while my Top-seller status as of June 20 is A-OK, there is a flag that it is at risk because of Tracking uploaded within stated handling time for the period of June 1 to June 30. While on vacation eariler this month, I put my store on 'vacation/out of the office' but allowed people to buy during that time. Those 30 some books that sold that week didn't get shipped until the Monday after we returned home. While we were on vacation, we did email buyers that the shipping would be delayed because we were out of the office. Several emailed back and thanked us not only for the reminder of when the book would be sent, but that they had noted the banner saying shipping 'may be delayed'.

I may call ebay next week about this. It seems to me that people would be better off closing their store and not allowing people to buy instead of risking losing the top-rated status. OTOH all those sales were very nice to come home to.

Of course, what ebay should do is program store closings with ignoring the one day shipping, but I am a dreamer. Instead ebay punishes those who take a vacation from their world of Tote dat barge! Lif' dat bale!

So for those who had wondered about the store closing but people still being able to buy, yep it will count against you.
