Tip-of-the-Day

I do not plan to post a hint or tip-a-day, but I hope others will drop in from time to time and leave a few pearls of wisdom. Kick-off Tip: Use keywords. Seldom do I use the title or author’s name in the 45-space title unless it is a collectible or has a famous illustrator. Usually I use a string of keywords. Sometimes the keywords come easily and other times they are not as obvious. I group by theme as much as possible, both to attract the multiple buyers and to ‘expand’ on the number of keywords possible.

This is an especially good idea when the title of the book doesn't even begin to convey the contents.

Also, an author with a realllllllly long name that is relatively obscure won't draw too many lookers either.

Don't be afraid to buy bubblewarp!

Seal the book your sending in something you never know when your package is going to get wet.. you don't want to risk your eBay rep.. over something that could have been avoided.

Cheers,

Dori >^..^<

Review some of your old inventory from time-to-time. Book prices change over time and you may find the description of the book requires some modification as well. Book selling is a continuous process.

Try something different --- learn something new -- "tweak" things a bit and see what happens.

lludwig- I'll add to your keyword tip, but I'm really hoping that someone else satnrose perhaps? would restart the hint for today. I'm suffering from hint withdrawal.....

Anyway, an addendum to your keyword tip: If you use html in your listing and for example, you try to use bold to highlight the author's name in your listing, don't let your html code touch the keyword. If you don't have a space between the keyword and the code, your item will not show up in a search.

Treat a $2 sale to a newbie the same way you do a $500 sale to a buyer with hundreds of feedback. And, answer your email!

This tip is a result of an auction I won this week from a powerseller, who never responded to either email I sent after the auction and although the auction listed PayPal as an option, gave me only check/money order as choices in the email I got from her. I was buying under a new ID.

Category hint. Research what's sold in categories you haven't used before. I put some humor books in : Everything else; slightly weird - and they sold whereas in the book category I relisted them twice.

barbaradawn Thanks for the compliment! Already some great tips from others and a good variety. kookkidz One of the things I do when I email my buyers that the book has been shipped is to include a link to my current auctions and suggest they bookmark it. attica9999 Good idea! Along that lines is this TIP When relisting, always change one or more of three things: 1.) Item title 2.) Item category 3.) Minimum price

Choose similar types of items to auction at the same time, to encourage bidders to bid on several of your auctions. Be sure to mention in your description that you have other similar items available. Mention the substantial savings they will get on shipping. If the items are relatively high-ticket, put ONE auction in featured, this will get you lots of lookers. I usually also put in a picture of all the similar items together in each individual auction, to show the potential buyer what a nice set it would make, etc. I've done this successfully with series books, dog books, and non book items too: victorian die-cuts, yarn, vintage fragrances.

This little tip from B_O_O_K has saved me three times already: Use delivery confirmation when you send your books media mail. It provides a tracking number that you can add to your "The book is on the way" email or to any inquires as to when the book might show up. A very nice thing to have when someone emails you, saying that they haven’t received their goods and would like a refund.

kitla Delivery Confirmations are great and I use them on most media mail books and often say so in my listings of larger books especially.

I believe there is a way to get free Delivery Confirmations through the online USPS label-mailing service when shipping Priority.
Maybe lludwig or ctbooks has that info...Chris in Arizona

Contact your buyers soon after the sale to confirm payment methods and to let them know you are aware of the auction ending.
As a seller I get many thanks for prompt contact and as a buyer this is my pet peeve, I just hate it when the seller expects the buyer to do all the contacting and even then sometimes I get no response from the seller--frustrating.
Good tips all

zuni4 I usually only use Delivery Confirmations on media mail to the West Coast and never [ok, maybe once] on Priority Mail. generalbooks was the one who used the on-line DC. The BB chat is back. What poem are you looking for? Tip ~ Books in Boxes: Store Flat. A book lying flat has the least stress. A book lying flat at the bottom of a big box of books has the most. Little books can get ruined in big boxes.

Tip: Beware of mold. Wash your hands. Kept a clear waterless antibacterial hand-cleaner in your car or moist toweletts for when you are out booking at FOLs, flea markets, estate sales.
