Use of Febreze

Before you consider spraying or enclosing a malodorous book in a sealed environment with Febreze, please consider your buyers and at least mention that in your listings.

I am allergic to Febreze and dryer sheets and had a seller ship me a book a while back that was heavily coated with Febreze and even had a greasy feeling to it.

As a result of merely opening up the package, I had an extremely severe reaction requiring the use of an Epi-Pen to ward off anaphlactic shock.

If you have to use Febreze or dryer sheets, tell your customers.

.

And yet - looking at your feedback left for others - you didn't give the seller a neg or a neutral.  Good for you - a triumph of reason over retaliation.  I hope you did, at least, mention the problem to the seller (who, one hopes, refunded the total).

I like to spray Old Spice cologne all over my books before shipping.

Can't go wrong with Old Spice.

With such a serious reaction that you had and the fact that only a tiny fraction of the thousands of online booksellers out there would even see this thread, you should consider stopping yourself from buying any more books online.

At the very least, you should write to sellers before you place a bid or hitting the buy-it-now button to ask questions and to mention your scent sensitivities (allergies).

Perhaps persons with such a strong reaction should contact sellers before bidding.  However I know of many many folks  who have at least a great dislike of Febreze and how it affects their respiratory tracts.  The stuff is a menace and it stinks.  I would no more use it on my books or my couch than I'd spray mustard gas on same.

And if a book "needs" Febreze, then the reason should be disclosed in the listing.

Thank you for your comments. I do inquire before purchasing.

I seldom give negs even when someone may possibly have earned it. I figure everybody has a bad day now and then, and stuff out of the ordinary does happen to all of us. Sometimes, no matter what you do, the eggs hit the fan.

Just recently, I received a shipment wherein the bubble wrap was recycled. No problem with that whatsoever. Recycling is cost effective and good for the planet.

Apparently the recycled bubble wrap had been spritzed with Febreze by another seller. The subsequent seller simply reused packaging materials. No fault of the seller.

I've read where some sellers suggest spritzing your items with perfumes or Febreze to supposedly enhance the buyer's overall experience. This is not good customer service at all.

Consider yourself shopping at a mall. You've chosen and paid for the items. As the clerk collects the items and puts them into a bag, he or she retrieves a favorite cologne (Old Spice or Georgio) or a bottle of Febreze and spritzes everything before the items are put into the bag. Question: Would you ever consider this to be good customer service?

I prefer a tub of (fresh) kitty litter, as it removes the ordor and doesn't leave behind any strong scent.
