I listed and sold in less than 12hrs an iPod for a friends son...buyer paid immediately and for express shipping...I am just very nervous..low feedback, low buying buyer and I know less than zip about this stuff...I know I have it insured, signature required, all the monies are being held by me until buyer assures me they are happy etc but I KNOW glass not this stuff...anything else I should watch out for?   Package is in the mail so nothing that I can do there but geesh it just makes me nervous...actually I get anxious when I sell glass for more than $50 but I always have the $$ for refunds, this case the kid will have the $$ next week...eeeks :O

If you insured it through ebay insurance you can relax. You are covered. Was it international? Express also has $100 of auto insurance on it.

Dont you hate having to worry about an item sold through ebay! So many things can go wrong with ebay once item leaves your hands.

Should not be that way!

I agree, ease up...it's insured but are you worried about them swapping or something?  WB, btw!  ;)

Not in the same boat but one of my nieces gave me an Nikon SLR camera to sell for her...hmmmm....I don't know anything about cameras and SO isn't interested in knowing about cameras either....so, I'm stuck!!  I can do the research to familiarize myself w/ the item but I'm worried more when it sells and it gets swap or taken apart for parts and I'm left w/ a no good camera or something.

Heck, I'm thinking of just buying it off her and just stuffing the darn thing in the closet.

well see Christy Michael J will help you!

No I took the package to the post office since I have never used Express Mail before and believe me the PO experience was a nightmare in itself.  So it is USPS insured not ebay insured.  The kid who I sold it for is a computer wiz so if they try to switcheroo he will definitely be able to tell right away which is a good thing.

I relaxed myself by taking a drive thru the Finger Lakes and buying a new horse :)    I hadnt realized that Widmer had sold out to Hazlet Winery so I had to stop in and sample abit too :)

Now I am going to list the 1001 items from Thursdays auction to pay for my new horsie  LOL

I get nervous every time I drop a package off at the PO, regardless of what it is or who is buying.

Michael J,

I'll send you pics as soon as SO takes a pic and I don't have a lens for it.  Heck, I didn't even know I needed one until she told me.  Why buy 2 SLR's is beyond me...this is such a mess!

What amazes me is how LOW to fees were for selling the iPod...I was expecting about $32 and it was just over $12....so unfair compared to what I normally sell :(

Ship with FedEx or UPS. When it comes to insurance and a better tracking service it is worth the extra you will pay. You will need to include this in you price if you do Free Shipping.

I ship via USPS only when I can replace the item quick or refund without receiving a payout from the insurance.  Any thing over $100.00 I just use FedEx Home / Ground.

FedEx has sent me insurance checks in 3+ weeks. USPS has never sent me a check on a insurance claim.

Maybe others have had good luck with the Post Office, not me.

If you are a business you can receive discounts on your shipping account with FedEx. Even on a  small volume account. No I don't work for them. They have been good to my small business thats why we ship FedEx not UPS. UPS will be good to you when you reach 200+ packages aday or week I forget which.  Our goal 200+ packages a week (not there yet).

PS: After 10+ years of shipping only in the last 3 years  have I needed to claim insurance. Boxes go missing when left on door steps.

I hate UPS....every item I have ever shipped with them has been received damaged...FedEx is crazy long for delivery times...my candle orders for my other business used to take 1 day with USPS (3hrs from me to the company) now they take a week with FedEx and are still in the end brought to me by USPS.

Everything worked out for me...it was not a matter of insurance but rather of fraudulent card usage and I was protected by Seller Protection since I followed all the rules by eBay and PayPal.

Glad that worked out for you, Gerry.  :)

I don't like UPS..I've only used them once and I was not happy.

I used FedEx Ground once and I was not happy w/ their cost nor delivery time.  I paid almost $40 for FedEx when it would of cost me $18 w/ USPS...and it took 1.5 weeks to get there.  Uhhhhhh...too long...no, thanks!

I'll stick w/ USPS.

First rule of insuring shipments:  never ever ever use usps insurance. If you ever see a penny from a usps claim (highly unlikely), it will come long after you forgot what it was you mailed.

No matter what form of shipping you use (I prefer usps, but to each his/her own), get your insurance from shipsurance.com or one of the other 3rd party insurers. I have used both shipsurance and u-pic and have found them easy to work with, quick with claim processing, and certainly cheaper than usps. Learned about them from ebay old-timers soon after I started selling on ebay in 2004 and have never looked back. Just be sure that you check exclusions - like any type of insurer, there are some things they won't insure. But most stuff sold on ebay can be covered.
