Can we get rid of the "immediate payment" option? Its down right annoying.

Feb 7, 2010 6:48 PM
I buy hundreds of things a month off ebay, and what I find annoying the most is the immediate payments and "checkout systems". Id like to pay for my items on a single transaction, expecially when I just went through and bought a bunch of things. Nothing worse than having to log into my paypal 4 and 5 times in a row just to pay for items, when I can do it all at once. How about change the immediate payment to like an options that it has to be paid for within 15 minutes or something? This way it will give people time to finish purchasing other items, and be able to pay for it in a single transaction.

Feel free to wait, you're not physically required to pay right away, but you may lose the item in the process. Immediate Payment Required means that the listing does not end until AFTER you have paid for it. If you "Buy" an item with IPR and don't pay right away, someone else could still come along and buy it and if they pay right away, they get it and you don't.

BUT, as I said, there is no actual requirement that you pay immediately so much as it is that you don't actually "win" the item until you pay.

Oh, and since NO seller would ever agree to give up the benefit of having listings with IPR, you can forget that idea gaining any traction.

eBay has never really cared about what the SELLERS imo. Its not really up to the sellers if there is an IPR option or not. Sellers have their hands tied as it is with not being able to leave bad feedback for horrible buyers etc, some forced shipping prices etc.

Yes it is, entirely. If it weren't for the fact that a majority of fixed price sellers use it, then the option would be discontinued. It's true, that Ebay has gone too far towards favoring the buyer in some cases(and Feedback is the most obvious), but in those cases there was at least some logic(however flawed) to it. Their is NO logic to the idea of doing away with an extremelly popular option that very few buyers have any problem with.

Immediate Payment Required is something each seller chooses when they list as Buy It Now. It is not done by eBay.

Sellers get burned by non paying bidders on BIN more than auctions so many use IPR to make sure they get paid.

hi..thought Id throw my 2 cents in!! :0) I buy from a seller that did the pay for immedietly thing...and I just emailed her asking if I had a few things to purchase if she could remove that for me till I was done..And she did! So maybe that would help...And this Seller always seems to answer emails right away so that helps!

I think this annoyance could be avoided if eBay had a cart setup. That way you could identify numberous items that you want to purchase, send them to the cart/basket and then pay for all of them at the same time. Another option when you want to purchase multiple items is to ask the seller to remove IPR from those items and then they can send you a combined invoice.

Wouldn't change a thing actually. The cart functionality that ebay is currently planning on for sometime in the next year or two(whoever knows when they will actually add these things) won't change the IPR functionality, and the sellers who choose to use it would be extremelly upset if it did. Immediate Payment does not mean Pay when you feel like it, that's the whole point. You can buy an IPR item and NOT pay right away, but until you do pay for it, the listing remains live and someone else can buy it as well, and if they pay for it first then you don't get too. If you don't like IPR items, don't BUY IPR items. It really is that simple.
