Combining shipment fees after buyer pays?

Combining shipment fees after buyer pays?

I have a buyer who asked what the combined shipping would be on a 2nd item they bought. But they've now paid for the 2nd item with the full shipping cost (and the first item with full shipping cost). Is the best way to fix this to refund them the 2nd payment and then send an invoice with the revised shipping? I assume refunding the payment won't auto-kill the whole sale.

refunding won't affect the sale but it won't get you some fees back.

i'd refund both payments througfh pay pal and then send a combined invoice . this also gives you one shipping # for both items, a little protection.

age is a measure of time , wisdom is the measure of how we used that time

PayPal will keep .30 for each payment when you refund.

eBay will charge you and keep the Final Value Fee on each shipping charge even when you refund.

Buyers need to wait for combined invoices before paying if they want combined shipping discounts.

Never rely on eBay nor emails for accurate payment information. Login to PayPal!

You also need to know that if your buyer pays for the second item, and you refund the shipping, combining both items in one box, you cant download tracking, which affects your seller rating and discounts. I talked to ebay about it and they said the heck with the buyer, ship them separately then you can download tracking. My reply is they give me 1 star for excessive shipping costs, and so tough cookies, you are screwed either way. I think the best way is to educate the buyers through email, refund all the money, send them a combined invoice through paypal, and complicate your life immesurably with issues ebay wont deal with or fix. That's life on Ebay, get used to it, because there are myriad instances like this that crop up that are never fixed. Best of luck

And what if the seller refuses to send the invoice with the discounts, which leads to falling behind in payments, which leads to open cases, etc? What would you do in that case, as a buyer?

You can now combine different orders into one shipment after you are already paid. Go the "Sold" area of your profile. Once there click the box next to the items you want to ship to one seller. Then click on the link for "print shipping label". After you do this, the next page will tell you that you can combine shipping for different orders into one shipment. Click whatever it says to accept and combine the orders, once on the next page go to the right and change the options so you can select insurance and other options. Once you are done and you pay for the shipping the tracking number will show up in each order.

This will not save your buyers any money since your buyers need to combine shipping before they pay, ie buy multiple things from one seller at one time and pay all at once so save one shipping. However, it makes is easier on you since you dont have to waste time and money shipping their orders individually if they are going to the same person.

Hope this helps a little.

As a buyer, if I'm paying two different shipping prices because I failed to wait for a combined invoice, I'm giong to expect two packages to show up at my house from my seller.

Thank you so much for the detailed answer, tothemax!!  I googled this problem because I had a buyer buy two things today, one right after the other, and they paid separately.  I messaged them to ask if I could refund them and then send them a combined invoice and they were just sure I was trying to scam the system somehow (which I obviously wasn't).  I was able to combine shipping using your answer.  I had no idea you could do this!  So thank you!
