New eBay Checkout

Mar 7, 2008 9:29 AM
Hello All!

Recently we have noticed a few posts regarding your experiences using the new eBay Checkout. Based on the comments we thought that it would be beneficial to provide some clarification regarding the look and flow of the checkout. Below I have included some screenshots of how the checkout should look.

On the 'Confirm You Payment Page' in the eBay Checkout, notice the location of the ‘More Options’ link. Clicking there will take you to the ‘Funding Options’ screen.

The ‘Funding Options’ screen will allow you to select your funding source based on the options available at the time of payment.

If you select your credit or debit card as the funding source the next screen will require that you confirm your selection.

Clicking yes will allow you to continue with your credit card as the funding source. If you click no, the funding source will default back to your bank account.

If anyone is seeing different screens or are experiencing any issues when using the new eBay checkout, please make sure to send me screenshots and I will investigate the matter further.

Thanks,
Ashley

Notes to seller...

Those DO NOT show up on the payment to the seller. They show up on the seller's transaction record. As a seller I almost never look at that.

New eBay Checkout

So how long will I need to wait until I am able to make a payment through the eBay checkout? I did a simple BIN today and went through the checkout. I had a coupon code that I applied (successfully) and then hit the continue to go to the Paypal log in screen, once I hit the log in I get this message:
"Checkout is currently unavailable"
with a link to try my payment again
After I clicked the link to try again there was no place to enter my coupon code. So I went directly into Paypal to just try the "pay for eBay items" link. I tried the coupon code there but it said that I can't apply it in Paypal. So I said srew it and just clicked to pay without getting my $4.50 or whatever off... and what message do I get?

"Checkout is currently unavailable"

Nice improvement. I should have known not to come back after the boycott....

EBay seems to have forgotten the most important part of being a website - that you need to give your users what *they* want & will use, not what EBay thinks is a great idea. Sorry Ashley, but 'clarification' isn't going to help a barely alpha version web application full of security holes, malfunctions and incredibly poor usability.

The Paypal issue I experienced happens after you've paid for your item through the new checkout and are automatically returned to EBay - it looks like you've been logged out of Paypal, but guess what - you're still logged in! Open up a new browser window or tab, type in the Paypal url and you'll see your account is still open.

Has this been fixed yet? I don't know, because I no longer use EBay's new checkout - I go directly into Paypal and pay for items through there. And the Note to Seller actually works here, the way it used to via EBay.

What's it going to take for EBay to sit up and take notice? Why do you think this board has been rife with negative comments about the new checkout? I rarely post on this board, but this is my third post on this issue because I'm more than fed up that something as crucial as security and an interface that can't calculate basic shipping isn't being addressed by EBay. I have things to sell on EBay, but don't want to until this issue is resolved. This should have been taken down immediately, when it was more than clear that it simply doesn't work.

Try this method:

Go directly to PayPal
Click on the "Send Money" tab
Directly below that ... click on "Pay for eBay Items"
Continue from there ... making sure that you are paying with the type of funding you want (credit card vs. bank funds)
Later check your PayPal account to make sure the payments went through as paid. However, you should receive a "Receipt for Your Payment" email from PayPal for each transaction.

FYI: be sure you message your seller to tell them you've paid in this manner. They will NOT show up in the seller's "main page" but on a transaction history page that's kind of buried. I received a payment like this & never even knew until the buyer emailed asking where item was. It did not show up in MyEbay Summary pages as needing to ship, so it looked to me like the buyer hadn't paid

Well, for me this new checkout seems very confusing to use too.
Plus I cant pay to my sellers because chackout keeps asking ZIP code although I have already chosen my country as Finland. So...I cant pay because OF COURSE theres an error in address: ZIP code missing. Finnish ZIP code not accepted...this far I have managed to pay by asking the sellers to send me separate invoice. Just wondering when this option is taken away too?! So much hassle in vain.
Old checkout was perfectly working and clear - unlike this new one.

AGAIN, I was automatically taken to the PayPal site, see screen shots above, with NO option to pay by personal check or Money Order.

How do I do that?

Thank you Ashley, for that marvelous screen shot of a page that didn't seem to exist when I started making the comments about it being unsecure. Your screen image clearly shows the login page starting with https, but the page that Ebay always sends me to during checkout clearly does NOT. It's a regular http address with no security at all. Has the problem finally been fixed now?

There was no mistake in the unsecure login page reported before. If it's different now, it's because someone finally changed it.

Ashley~

Is there/will there be a reciprocal link between the new eBay Checkout and PayPal for when payments are made?

Case in point ... when a member is unable to use the new checkout and makes payment directly through PayPal, why isn't the seller notified of such payment? See posts #58 and #63.

Thank you!

Wonderful news! I managed to discover three rare children's videos that I've been searching for months here - finally found them after the seller emailed and told me the auction numbers because they didn't show up in search even using the titles, won all three auctions at the minimum bid, and then found the checkout link to log in to Paypal is now on a secure page (finally).

Trouble is that the checkout tried to force me to pay the wrong shipping charges and left no way to correct it. Yes, there's a link to "change" but it doesn't actually allow you to change anything.

I still ended up closing the browser and then logged in to Paypal manually so I could pay for my stuff with the correct amounts.

The new checkout still does not work for me as of the end of last week. I can't proceed past the second page. I've gone to Paypal and paid there, but what a pain to keep trying this checkout when it never works!

20064 and julia_larush,
Make sure you let the seller know that you had to pay for the auctions directly through PayPal. I paid for auctions in the same way, but the seller was NOT notified of payment and found it about a week later, when they checked their PayPal account.

I guess we'll all have to start doing that, and sellers should probably leave a large text reminder on the auction pages as well. It doesn't look like Ebay is going to stop destroying the place until the whole place goes belly up.

Another missing feature in the new check-out system - there is no place to request shipping costs from the seller! Come on - fix it or go back to the old system that actually worked.
