New eBay Checkout

Mar 7, 2008 9:29 AM
Hello All!

Recently we have noticed a few posts regarding your experiences using the new eBay Checkout. Based on the comments we thought that it would be beneficial to provide some clarification regarding the look and flow of the checkout. Below I have included some screenshots of how the checkout should look.

On the 'Confirm You Payment Page' in the eBay Checkout, notice the location of the ‘More Options’ link. Clicking there will take you to the ‘Funding Options’ screen.

The ‘Funding Options’ screen will allow you to select your funding source based on the options available at the time of payment.

If you select your credit or debit card as the funding source the next screen will require that you confirm your selection.

Clicking yes will allow you to continue with your credit card as the funding source. If you click no, the funding source will default back to your bank account.

If anyone is seeing different screens or are experiencing any issues when using the new eBay checkout, please make sure to send me screenshots and I will investigate the matter further.

Thanks,
Ashley

heh, again my issues aren't being confronted. how about us who want to use our paypal balance but keep getting echeck instead.

(oh yes i know how to use the system not new at all to this and have gone through it with a comb.)

and yes again i have more than enough funds in my paypal to cover but ebay checkout keeps flipping back to echeck... after all that work i did.

societysilk? one way i found is to talk with the seller you're having issues and kindly ask them if you can just send funds to them using their paypal email.

it's a easy process you can do through paypal. sometimes it gives me a bit of trouble for some reason.. (the echeck/paypal funds issue) but i find this a better option.

it's a process that paypal will take you through in the 'make a payment' go to the auction/ebay selection and go on from there.. long as you have their correct paypal email addy it should function rather regularly.

rather i mean.. something's fishy lately with my selection capabilities.

but as i talk to each seller (i ask before i bid now) and most go "sure, my customers have been having many issues also".

so it's not been too much of an issue with me in this alternative.

Ashley? WHEN Is the unsecure link to the Paypal site going to be fixed? It still seems to be wide open and completely unsecure after nearly two months of complaints.

I have no desire to have my bank account sucked clean because my login information was leeched.

Following up on your suggestion that there are benefits to having payments taken directly from my bank account? That sounds like a very BAD idea. Using the credit card exclusively gives me (the buyer) a layer of protection against bad sellers and unauthorized charges.

There is NO advantage to you to have your payment taken directly from your bank account.

The advantage is to Paypal, which gets to keep the 3% instead of having to pay part of it to the credit card company.

You end up with less protection, they end up with more money.

I did not get a yes or no option when I tried to use my credit card. The options were "Don't Change" or "Change". I guessed right - lucky me! Could ypu make this any more confusing!!!???

Then I got to leave feedback - give RED negative!

Why aren't we told about these changes rather than be shocked by them? Ebay wants a more positive experience for buyers - then do your part.

1) The new Checkout defaults to Pay All Sellers At Once. This is something I never do. This is annoying. I'm still convinced this has more to do with making chargebacks difficult (imagine calling visa and saying you want to do a chargeback on $12.42 of a $38.45 paypal payment -- many chargebackers would find that daunting) than with making things easier for buyers. I want transactions with separate sellers to be separate transactions. Period.

2) The new Checkout makes shipping a true mess, with the shipping box being present for each item, rather than for the entire order. Umm, that's not how it works. Shipping is paid on the order.

On the "Choose Payment Method" page, the radio buttons for selecting payment method do not align next to the payment methods (with the exception of the one for PayPal).

In fact, two of them appear BELOW the Continue button.

Yeah, that next page is a freaking mess.

As the page is still branded eBay all over, a buyer has no way to yet know that he's on the PayPal site yet. As such many a buyer will completely miss the opportunity to change payment source.

I'd imagine this is by design.

The link to change the payment source should appear near the confirmation button.

The "Confirm Your Payment" button is thoroughly misleading. As this is a button with which one finalizes the payment, it ought to be labeled "Make Payment".

But again, this is likely by design. Designed to deceive.

well, at least most of you are getting through the checkout process. Everytime I go to pay for something, at I end up with an error page that says "not available..try again later." Then I always..yes always..have to solicit the Seller's email address and pay direct from paypal. Am I the only one having this problem??? eBay sends me an email saying they are working on this issue ( which I've received for the past 3 months). But its still broken for me.. Help!!??

When you click Send Money/Pay For eBay Items the auction should come up automatically, you should not need to ask the seller for their payment address.

Well, today is the first day that I've been opted into the 'new and improved' version of Checkout.

GUESS WHAT? No surprise ....... it does NOT work!

I'm beginning to wonder what does work on eBay these days!!

I added shipping insurance, updated the total ..... but it's stuck on page one and will not allow me to proceed to page two to choose my payment method.

AND going directly to PayPal does NOT work either!

Why did eBay go to a new system for paying?!? I asked my seller to add insurance but the new check out system is multipling insurance by the number of items instead of it being one change to cover all the items. I was going to pay for two DVDs that totalled about $35 and I asked to have $1.65 added for $50 insurance, but when I selected it, it give me an insurance total of $4.95! It is mulitpling the insurance cost actually by 3 and there is nothing I can do to adjust it in this new system. I want my old ebay payment method back!!!!
