Photobucket Thumbnail Tutorial
May 21, 2011 08:59 AM
For those who may need help posting pictures of your stuff on forums (or simply want a HTML reminder of what to do), please feel free to use this tutorial as a guide whenever you need it. Note that even after you get your HTML codes for your pictures you may need to do some editing to the HTML codes themselves to avoid the photobucket ads. Instructions on how this is done are near the end of this post. (BTW these codes should work for any forum board not just the eBay boards.) Firstly you will need to upload your pictures to a piture hosting site. I use Photobucket. It’s simple and easy to use (and best of all IT’S FREE!!!) Simply go here: http://www.photobucket.com to create your free account (or sign in if you already have an account): Photobucket (Note that all these pics posted here are clickable thumbnails. I like to right click and “Open Link in New Tab” most of the time on the thumbnails posted over here.) Once you have a Photobucket account you are ready to start uploading, but, if you like to keep your stuff neat and organised you will most likely want to sort your pictures into “sub albums”. Simply scroll down a little until you see the “Create new album” button and click on that: Photobucket Just type in the name of your album in the first box and click the “Create Album” button. (Note that you can even create sub albums inside your new albums if you wish. For instance maybe an “American Coins” album with several albums inside it for your Pennies, Nickels, etc. and then inside your “Pennies” sub album – “Large Cents”, “Half Cents” “Small Cents”, etc. and inside your “Small Cents” sub album more sub albums for Indian heads, Wheatbacks, etc. You can name them whatever you want.): Photobucket Your new album will automatically open up in the next page that is displayed, however, I like to go back to the main page that shows all my sub albums, right click the album I want and “open in a new tab” (this will keep my main album page open should any problems arise during my uploads and I can simply close the new tabs and reopen them from the main page). Once your album is created and you have it open you are now ready to start uploading your pictures to it. Simply click the “Upload Now” Button: Photobucket And then “Choose file” (Note – for selecting individual files you DO NOT need the Adobe Flash 10 Uploader): Photobucket Now search your computer for the picture you want to upload. Once you find the picture you can either double click it or single click and “open”: Photobucket Then simply click the “Start Uploading” button. Note: Make sure you have the name of your picture (as shown by the red arrow) BEFORE you “Start Uploading”: Photobucket Once your picture has uploaded you should get this page: Photobucket You can either “Upload more files” or “Save and continue to my album” You may, however, get an error message once the upload bar turns completely blue (and most likely none of the links on the page are working now) – especially if you have a slow internet connection: Photobucket Never fear. This just means the Photobucket ads have interupted the display of the “Upload Complete” page. Simply close this page off and go back to the same album and your newly uploaded picture should be there. This is why I like to “open in a new tab” the new album I am trying to put pictures into. Sometimes you may even have to refresh the main page to open your new album into a new tab and sometimes may even have to close everything off and sign in again to your Photobucket account. OK, now you have all your pictures you want in this particualr album uploaded. Now what? You need to “select” the pictures you wish to post your clickable thumbnails for. You can do individual pictures by mousing over the pic and checking the box from the drop menu (Note – you can do this for any number of pictures in your album BEFORE going on the generate your HTML codes): Photobucket Or you can simply check the “Select All/Unselect All” box for everything in this album: Photobucket Now click “Choose action” then “Generate link codes for selected”: Photobucket Then simply click the code under “HTML clickable thumbnails for Ebay, Livejournal, MySpace, etc. – recommended”: Photobucket Then COPY/PASTE to your post. If, however, the “Generate HTML Code” page does not work and you get this with the red “X”s (as will sometimes happen especially if you have a slow internet connection) and none of the codes can be clicked: Photobucket Then you need to mouse over each individual picture, highlight the HTML slot as shown below by clicking on it, then copy paste that to your post: Photobucket But you are still not quite done yet. Photobucket wants all their ads to show up on any pics that you post on forums. To avoid this a slight adjustment on the HTML code is needed before you click the “Post Message” button. Just delete everything between the “?” and the second “=” as shown in the next picture: Photobucket This MUST be done for each picture you are posting. AND (for those where the “Generate HTML Code” page didn’t work and you had to select your code in the drop menu under each individual picture) you have to INSERT the “th_” into your HTML code as shown below (else your “thumbnail” will be a full size picture). Note that the “th_” is ONLY added to the last URL in the code and is actually part of the picture name: Photobucket Compare the code in the above two pictures with the the code in the following pic to see the difference. Your Photobucket account name, albums, sub-albums and picture names will be different from mine of course. In some cases where a different website is used just remember your HTML code simply uses the URL to where ever your picture is located on the net: Photobucket And that’s all there is tuit: Photobucket Photobucket Note: If you have neglected to remove the “action/current” part from the HTML code your link will go to a photobucket page that will also display any and all of the ads photobucket wants you to see. Also if your HTML code does NOT have the “th_” inserted in it your “thumbnail” will be a full sized picture (though it will still link to your photobucket picture).

I'm still around. Just been incredibly busy lately. Plus computer isn't acting right. 16.8 kbps net connection with very frequent disconnections makes it near impossible to visit very many sites. Today though after getting back from the hospital (Mom had accidently stuck herself in the wrist with a carving knife while gutting one of the goats we're gonna put in the freezer. Hit a vein and made some nice spurts. Got 3-4 stitches but doc says she'll be fine. I finished the carving jobs on the goats after we got back.) rebooted the computer and managed a nice 19.2 kbps connection. I'm guessing we gonna need a new computer. Both modems I have tried are practically brand new so I'm guessing it's the box itself.

Anyway thx for the concern Jody

Hi I have a question for you experienced coin sellers?  I started to sell some of my vast collection of coins on Ebay 2 weeks ago.  I have kept them in a vault in the Bank and took out 7 silver coins Morgans, Eagles just to see how well I do.  I and I was going to move on to my other more expensive and older coins if I did well.  I sold a 2009 silver eagle FS ms 70 PCGS graded that I bought from modern coin mart.  It was a nice coin no marks the picture spoke for itself.  The person who won it got it at a great price and I mailed it the day he paid.  He emailed me and said he noticed some "marks under the words In God We Trust" and on the skirt.  I sent that coin out with no marks and the picture showed it.  I even included the zoom in.  He said he wants to resolve it but I am very unsure of his true reason as he has 115 positive feedbacks and I told him It was graded by PCGS MS 70 FS is it possible that a coin can be removed from the sealed case that PCGS sends it in as I know that coin had no marks on it and when I called Ebay the rep looked at the picture and also did not notice anything. Can someone give me some guidance as to what action I should take as I take pride in my positive feedback at 100% and this guy I beleive is looking for something as it was stated on the auction NO RETURNS PLEASE HELP?

he probably figured out that he overpaid...

you might ask what he has in mind to 'resolve' it... if all it takes is throwing 10 bucks his way that might be the way to go...

Photobucket NO LONGER FREE!!!!!
Jun 4, 2012 07:44 AM

It is no longer free unless a complete version of microsoft office is purchased...When buying a computer, the stores now have things like photobucket on credit card like items at the desk....They are for sale and not a give away

I do not believe this to be true.  You do not need anything from a computer store to use Photobucket.  Just go to their website, and register for an account, and you can upload your pictures there to be hosted.  Works for eBay, Twitter, or anywhere on the internet you would like to link to your pictures.  Still free.

Please do not laugh, I am not a computer wizz.  Does anyone out there know how to upload pics on ebay so that the purchased feature of using the mouse to view coins in detail will actually work?

Has PhotoBucket eliminated this option with their new updated version?

I posted a question about this same subject on the  "Discussion Board--> eBay Community Help Boards --> Photos & HTML"    a few days ago because I could not get the thumbnail to work, however no one has responded to my post.

I'm wondering if I'm missing something or if there is a trick to still do this.

Link to my post on the Photos & HTML Board is here
