SHIELD NICKELS HAVE NO RAYS FROM 1867 TO 1883

THE EBAY COMMUNITY HAD THE GAUL TO SAY THAT AN 1880 SHIELD NICKEL HAS RAYS! THEY FURTHER HAD MY LISTING REMOVED & ALL I SAID IN THE AUCTION WAS IT COULD EITHER BE A 1869? OR AN 1880? AS IT HAD NO RAYS!
THE PHOTO BLOW UP SHOWS THERE IS 18??, THE ?? IS THE QUESTION? IF A BUYER HAS ACCESS TO AN X-RAY MACHINE, THEN THEY CAN FOR SURE SEE WHAT THE LAST 2 NUMBERS ARE! ANY LAWMAN THAT IS A FORENSICS LAB WORKER, COULD GET A DATE OUT OF IT!!!! LAW LABS FIND FILED OFF SERIAL NUMBERS FROM FIREARMS!!!! AND WHAT IF THEY FOUND IT WAS INDEED A 1880 SHIELD NICKEL??? WOW!!!
ANYWAY, I PUT THE COIN BACK UP & THERE IS NO MENTION OF WHAT IT COULD BE, YOU FIGURE IT OUT & BID ACCORDINGLY!

I feel your pain, please don't think most people would invest forensic testing dollars to see the date on a nickel., I'd rather buy one that wasn't a hole away from being a washer.

THE EBAY COMMUNITY HAD THE GAUL TO SAY THAT AN 1880 SHIELD NICKEL HAS RAYS!

Tell em to "Bite You!!". Shield nickels with rays were only struck in 1866 and part of 1867. The rays were removed during the 1867 strikings and all subsequent issues were struck without rays..... (2010 RedBook page 125)

CAPS ARE EASY TO TYPE, ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU ARE 55!
CAPS ARE NOT YELLING EITHER, I CAN PROVE IT, TRY TO BLOW OUT MY EARDRUMS WITH CAPS, YOU CAN'T DO IT, SO THERE FORE IT IS NOT YELLING!!!

IF I COULD AFFORD AN X-RAY UNIT, I WOULD GET ONE, THEN I WOULD BUY UP ALL THE NO DATE COINS I COULD GET MY HANDS ON & SELL THEM WITH THE X-RAY PHOTO THAT WAS TAKEN OF THE COIN TO PROVE THE DATE IT WAS!!!
SO THERE!
NOW I CAN JUST SEE A SURGE IN BUYING OF OLD X-RAY MACHINES & THE SELLING OF SUCH COINS I JUST DESCRIBED!

I'm a radiographer and a numismatist. I have taken X-Ray's where I can see details on a quarter that a patient may have left in their pocket. Medical X-Ray machines cannot delineate the dates on dateless coins. The X-Ray image can show areas of different densities, but to that extent of detail is not possible with Medical X-Ray units. I have a small background in metallurgy and know of a machine called a magnaflux machine that is used to detect cracks in things like camshafts.... I wonder if it can delineate dates in dateless coins ? Either way, very expensive equiptment to use for this purpose. - Adding my 2 cents: THIS IS YELLING AT THE READERS ..... TAKE OFF THE CAPS LOCK. Aside from these nuances......hope everyone is having a great day !!!!
