Hate the discussion board format? Wish there was a place to have a running chat like in the old ebay chat rooms that they took away?
Here is the solution, one thread devoted to chatting about anything and everything about coins all in the same place.
Post whatever is on your mind. There is no official topic here. So let's get the chatting started.

I've caused the no photo glitch on myself by loading my photos first then deleting the ebay stock photo. As Ted said the cure is to delete all photos and upload again but that's not possible after getting bids. If ebay puts a stock photo in your listing make sure you delete the stock photo first then upload yours. There are probably also other ways to aquire the no photo glitch.
Since there is no photo displayed on the my ebay page and the listing displays fine once opened it's easy not to know you have the glitch unless you view your listings as others would.

Strange, but if I came across that page while searching, that listing would pop out and I’d be curious to click on it to see the actual auction. It could actually work to your advantage with gaining more traffic.
EJ, Hi ya stranger. I'm the oppisite with listings. If folks can't get the title right, I don't have much faith in them as sellers. I've been noticing a lot of auctions without any pics in the title and wonder why people think something will sell without a picture. Now I wonder if oBey is the culprit and not the sellers? Who knows? Hi B4. I agree with you about not having faith in sellers who have no picture in the search result page, however, before drawing that conclusion, I’d still open the listing to see if it’s the same (no pic). If so, I’d just go on to the next listing.
However, if I were eyeballing a search page and saw a “missing” title, I would not think the seller forgot to title his listing, it would be more like “what the heck happened” and I’d open to see what’s going on, hence, traffic. Now, if the seller has typical spanning words like “LQQK”, or, if the title and item(s) don’t jive, then I would also not bother looking further and go on to the next listing.

If you don't see that, it's probably an eBay glitch.
That's an ongoing glitch that...happens fairly rarely...
Most typical is there's no pic in the search results listing, but if you open the listing the pic is there inside.

Hi Ted. Glad you differentiated between the glitch and no glitch of the no-photo issue. I’ve never seen the one you describe as a rarely occurring glitch. Does it show the little camera on the search result page and then show the sellers’ photo in the listing once opened? I’m moreso curious about the former and assume the seller uploaded his photo in the first picture box of the SYI form but failed to show up on the search result page.
Do you happen to have a screenshot showing the glitch in you personal glitch file???

Loading your item photo(s), then deleting the ebay stock (?) photo would not be classed as a glitch, it would be classed as stupidity on your part.
Rewind: Delete the “ebay stock photo”? Where do you see that on the form? That ebay no-photo with the little camera you see on listings occur when no photo was uploaded by the seller, as Ted mentioned.
If you’re creating a listing by using the SYI form, the first picture box says click to add pictures. So how did you inadvertently get the no-photo photo? If you add more than one ebay hosted photo, ebay will not allow you to have the first box empty. Am I missing somethig??? Plus, why would one want to acquire a no-photo photo?

EJ,
If you sell an item that is in ebays product catalog and a stock photo is available it will be prefilled into the SYI form as your first photo. The stock photo is just a generic photo like stores use in their sales fliers.
As an example here is the product page for an expensive nikkon camera I choose at random.
http://www.ebay.com/ctg/Nikon-D3100-142-MP-Digital-SLR-Camera-Black-Kit-w-AFS-DX-1855mm-VR-Lens-/100108089?_refkw=nikon+d3100&_pcatid=782&_odkw=kodak+cx7530&_pcategid=625&_osacat=31388&_from=R40&_dmpt=Digital_Cameras
Note the stock photo in the upper left. As you can see there are several sellers content to just leave the stock photo.
Only an idiot would pay over $500 for a used item based on a stock photo because you can't see what you are getting or even know if the seller has an item to sell. And if your used camera is not out of the box perfect like in the stock photo the idiot who bought it will not be happy.
That is why as a seller you should never use stock photos unless you are selling dollar store junk.
Deleting the stock photo after adding your own photos rather then before sometimes causes the glitch.

Actually, I'm pretty sure I have a pic of one of my listings with the photo glitch... but i pre-dates my computer dying, it's on a disc that would take me a while to find.
I had not heard about Johnny's theory on the stock photo causing the glitch, so that's a useful tip. Yes, the product page does load a stock photo for you automatically, you have to delete it. You can actually see this in the background in the "compost" pic ^^^ in my "fun with eBay screenshots" post - I use Product Details on single coin listings to help with listing visibility (in case a buyer ends up on a Product Page). You can see their stock pic of a Hidalgo 5 Peso in my shot.
I haven't seent the green camera icon on anything in quite a while, I think it's been retired. Yes, when it was around, it often meant the pic was inside the listing. Way back, FeePay used to charge 35¢ for a gallery photo, the green camera icon was to indicate there was a photo in the listing when the seller had not paid the 35¢ tariff. Long after they gave gallery photos for free, the site would still glitch out sometimes, and you'd see a green camera icon where the gallery photo should be. These days, I either see it completely blank, or occasionally with the grey slightly turned polaroid image. The grey polaroid image usually means the seller has uploaded no photos. Since gallery pic is free and automatic, the green camera icon would always indicate a glitch today.
Any defective listing (missing pic, missing title, etc.) draws my attention. People would tend to skip them, they could represent an opportunity to get something cheap.

I see the same thing you do... the stock photo displays in the listing, just not on the search results list.
My glitch, for which I don't have the shot handy, was a Merc. Dime lot listing, for which there was no stock photo ever, since it didn't have Product Details (and it is actually old enough that there WERE NO Product Details for coins then). There are multiple glitches that manifest themselves the same way, obviously.

Thanks for clarifying, Johnny. The link in post 2935 was helpful to see the difference between one with a glitch (your link with blank space) and one showing the little watermark camera, which was not a glitch, just an oops on the seller part.
When you all spoke about stock photos (s.p.) I assumed it was an off site photo from Staples, for example, not an in-house (ebay hosted) photo via the product catalog. Never had a need for the catalog so I never ventured to learn what it was about, but noticed that you utilized it in some of your past listings. Not sure how they got multiple s.p. in that camera listing and don’t really care ‘cause I never plan to use s.p.
For fun I created a mock listing to experience dealing with the product catalog and s.p. and came up with a new glitch. In the SYI form, picture box 1 had the s.p. (prefilled), box 2 I uploaded a coin, and box 3 was another coin. When I went to preview the listing, the s.p. was replaced by the coin in box 2 being primary, with the box 3 coin being the second photo to view. When previewing how it would look in the search result page, the box 2 photo was seen. Both areas were consistant, but it seems the s.p. fell into limbo.

Re: your 1st link - thanks for the visual
Re: your 2nd link - yes, I saw the same as you described.
Re: my 2nd box photo - need to ask the board if the bottom is indeed an elephant lady coin.
