>>Everything that QUALIFIES for visibility according to the search terms the user typed in IS getting visibility. It's "operator error" by people who don't know how to use a search engine that precipitated "best match", which will soon be superseded by yet another search engine that makes even MORE assumptions about what they assume you're REALLY asking for. Pity.

Where is the search description checkbox here?

Yes, I know about using quotes. My search queries use them all the time.

spirits, that link doesn't work for me.  The only pages where I don't get the "search description" box is my MY EBAY pages - The search/search results pages all have one.  Maybe they've removed it from some test that I'm not one of the guinea pigs in.

Skip the link. The Javascript in eBay's insert/edit image popup is throwing up errors.

It could be that you still have the old page that everyone likes. I checked My EBay and the home page and other spots - they took the search description checkbox out completely on my account.

I tried an advanced search just a short while ago and only the first search works with the title & description. After that, the web form loses the session cookies and you have to re-enter everything (or click back to the original form and resubmit it.)

I found the same problem, so I did a search ebay discussion and got in this way. YOu can go up to learning and then find the discussion this way but more clicks than I am used to!

Nothing looks new to me but you can get to the boards by clicking on "Community" which is at the top of the home page and this one as a matter of fact.

My home page used to do that but now there is no "Community"

Community showes up on the bottom of my home page.

The new search is horrific. I placed a search for:driod battery

This is a typo, 4 sellers showed up.

I logged into this account and typed the same drIOd battery and got this:

0 results found for driod battery, and threw me into the correct spelling which shows a multitude of listings.

Well before I logged this account there was 4 of them.

I did the search once again on this id and now it shows 43 are misspelled.

This was unintentional. It is very frustrating to shop on here when you feel like you are not getting the "whole picture" of items available.

*rant over*

Community showes up on the bottom of my home page.

I see that now on mine as well, but I think it should have stayed like it is, as now you have to scroll all the way to thebottom.

I think what's going on is that you are a guinea pig for that new search  (I forget what it's called) that will completely replace best match and that will automatically include description in searches.

shudder.

You know, thinking about the 'new' search, I think what they are missing (in the advanced tab) is a 'modify your search' button. The advanced search is a one-time search; it doesn't retain your settings (such as searching in both title & description).

Has anyone in the programming department actually tried searching a second time after entering all their criteria?

Have any of you just done a single search and found exactly what you wanted and never wanted to resubmit your search?

I hope they fix this soon...

Update: It looks like eBay addressed the search and missing links.

On my pages now, the search description checkbox is back! (Remember it does not show up on the initial search unless you go right to advanced search immediately.)

And it does search title & description. Also, when you click the advanced tab, your keywords are copied as before and the title & description is still checked.

Kudos to eBay for fixing it/restoring the old search tools. Thank you :)

I haven't checked all the links and search options yet but I can already see that the community links are back on the top of the page.

I saw some posts about the eBay bucks - haven't checked those - maybe they've been fixed also.

Thanks again. If I find anything else remiss, I will post it here.

Update: The new search page is BACK again. eBay had removed it and gave me the old search again. Now, the advanced search DOES remember the keywords and title and description (although you no longer get the checkbox after you first search and the default search does NOT search in the item description.)

Unfortunately, I have to report that we have a new bug...

Searching for: antique vase "excellent condition" (where you want the exact phrase, excellent condition, in your search)

now DROPS OFF all the search query string keywords, as soon as it hits the quotes in the search box. so you only get a search for:

antique vase

I am still not seeing the "include item description" box under the search bar and it's NOT automatically searching the descriptions because I get totally different numbers.

The problem with using the advanced search is there is no way to search the sub categories anymore since ebay stopped "remembering" the subcategory you were just in.

Help!  I'm so frustrated!  I still have the box on my android tablet but I don't on my windows laptop.

Remember, you don't get the search description checkbox until you search the first time with the standard search. (If you use advanced search, it's there immediately.) On my account, it does remember the subcategories in advanced. But you can only get them from first searching the main category and then choosing a subcategory link along the left side of the page (in the sidebar). For example, search advance for collectibles and then click on decorative items on the left. Now, click on the advanced link again and you should have that subcategory.

I'm using I.E. 9 and I have the new format. When you open an item there is NO SEARCH BAR at the top of the page so that when you want to search again you have to go back or click on your watch page, etc.  WEIRD
