Well, just dandy, I had a nice first response all typed out and bang, I didn't fill out some required field?  What's up with that?

Try again.

I see some improvement in spell-check, now we can edit our mistakes in same window we draft post, but we must toggle it on and off and back on every few lines in order to catch errors along the way.  Red-underline of words is fine, left-click for suggestions, okay it works, but not nearly as well as what we used to have previously within Chrome and Firefox (never in IE9 on W7 which is what I'm on right now, similar to MS's own Word spell check and auto correct.

Turning spell check "on" only catches past errors, not ongonig as it should.

What's up with the default tag "(Optional) comma-separated , spaces OK" that disappears when I click it?

I'd like to know the reasoning behind removing all the reasons on the Report Abuse screen.  Why is it now just a general report?

I'd also like to know why these random, unneeded changes were made, but not one single thing on the long list of issues with this new format was addressed:

1. No default to last post read.

2. I sometimes have to refresh after a post, in order to see that post. Many people double post when they don't see their post.

3. My auto spell check no longer works on this board. It works in my emails. I have no idea what this site does to disable that feature.

4. Font is too small.

5. White space is blinding.

6. The italics and bold tabs don't work at all properly.

7. Often the blinking whatchamacallit that we mouse click where we want to begin typing, completely disappears.

8.  The font displays improperly on one of the browsers.

9.  The font randomly resets itself back to the default size.

10.  There is no envelope icon on the main board pages for many to alert us when we have new board messages.  Also, email notifications are not being sent when we get new messages.

11.  When composing a message or reply, the cursor often jumps down two lines after you type a couple of letters.

12.  (I know this is petty.)  The word "separated" is misspelled under the "To" line on the screen where you compose board messages.

13.  The announcement section at the top of the page doesn't stay collapsed as it used to.

I'm sorry Lucky, the Community Guides do not "offer advice" so, I'm not sure they can answer your questions. Actually I'm not even sure what category your questions fall under, are you asking for advice? Are you asking for a reason why? Now that's a tuffy. "Reasons why"? What category does that fall under.... advice, conversation engagement? or are they going you to "Guide" you to a place that does offer advice? But no, they can't do that, If they guide you to anything that helps, wouldn't that be indirectly offering advice? Wait a minute, I just rolled out of bed so, I'm sure it's just me but wouldn't CG's have to engage in some kind of "conversation" in order to help you? And wouldn't they have to offer advice, in order to answer your questions?........ did I already ask that?

Advice for the CG"s: I know we can never be pleased and just how hard we can be to get along with but, at the same time, I think you know why. Ebay develops an outrageous attitude towards us and we develop one in return. No more to it than that.

My point? what I'm trying to convey to you now, isn't attitude, it's concern that things like the CG's job description......this:

eBay Community Guides help you find what you need in eBay Community, but do not offer advice on other eBay features, or engage in conversation. Find out more about eBay Community and how it works here: Community Help Page

is not helping at all. I's cold doubletalk, the same kind of stuff that got Ebay into this whole mess with it's public. I know the idea of the blurb is it can mean anything you want it to mean but, to me it means one can ask actually ask for advice, as in request to be guided to the advice, yes? no?

Thing is as confusing as that is, even if we just go for it, and hope we hit on what it means/allows, I ask for guidance/guidance to advice and get no answers. It's happened several times So, after all is said and done, the comment apparently means nothing.

I'll try to cut this short and say, that comment seems to cause more trouble than it is helpful. To me, it just seems to make people mad when they read it and doubly angry when they use it and nothing happens. Maybe say something like the community guides are here to help, the best they can or, if you're not going to help consistently, say it, or better yet, and more towards the truth, why not just say "The CG's are here."

Thanks for listening.

Don't ask me why half my post is showing in blue uderlined when I pasted it back in the text box. See, I could probably figure out why but, the point is, things like that shouldn't happen to begine with, we aren't looking for a fix we can do, we just don't want the problem to be there at all. But, that's always the way with the year old upgrade, it's still acting up and seems top me to have caused MUCH more trouble than it was worth.

*sigh

So now I walk away wondering if I've offended the Pinks/CG's when I know, none of this is really their fault. :(

And BTW, how do I look in Blue Underline? Does it make my butt look big? ?:|

Re: Community Upgrades

Getting back on topic, firstly, the question of what problems were we having with Spell Check was posed but, I never was sure what Spell Check was supposed to be upgraded. Are we working on Firefoxes Spell check, to get it right or Ebay's Spell Check?

No one asked us but FWIW, I think most/many people would just prefer the FF spell check work like it did before the changes. Surely someone at Ebay has used that option enough that they can tell you exactly what falls short with FF's Spell Check now as opposed to when it did work? (like it did well over a year ago, *hint hint. :)

One more question, in case the guides show back up.  Several of us have been having on topic posts that contain no violations pulled without getting pink slapped.  Has something changed with moderation?  If so, don't you think we should know about it?

1.  First had a very hard time finding where to post comments.

The blurb about changes disappeared with the link for us to comment.

2.  My board email envelope has disappeared.

3.  THE BIG COMPLAINT

WHY CAN'T WE TELL YOU WHY WE WANT TO REPORT A POST?

Do you really have pinks on the boards reading, who know the regular posters?  Who will understand a comment and the innuendos that go with it?

Are you really going to read through a whole thread ?  Can you read?

Are all reported posts just going to be pulled? -  That will wreck havoc once the trolls realize what they can do.

What are you basing your decisions to pull a post on?

At least give us a box to tell you why we want to report a post.

Then you could make a reasonable decision.

(Laughing hysterically - eBay hasn't been reasonable in a long time.)

Had a post pulled on SC earlier today. I'm at a one out of 4 posts pulled so far today. The exact post pulled was:

You are allowed to post the buyers ID. It may help

Yep, that's was it in it's entirety.

If the rules are going to be changed as to what we can post and what not, could you please tell us the rule changes, prior to just yanking posts. Seriously, yes, we're used to it but, that's still a rude thing to do.

Re: Community Upgrades

Plant, you forgot to add a white space or typed text AFTER your copy/paste and since the link was hghlighted so became the following text.

BTW

eBay Community Guides help you find what you need in eBay Community, but do not offer advice on other eBay features, or engage in conversation. Find out more about eBay Community and how it works here: Community Help Page

So for CG to explain to us exactly HOW spellcheck SHOULD work rather than just pointing us to the button might run countyer to not offering advice on other eBay features.

Lucky:  most of your questions relate to policy and or moderation and since we are coming up on what, month 8? with no "conversation" regarding moderation and CG prohibited from "conversing" on the subjetc (per written job descript above) I woud think none or few of your Q's will ever get a direct corporate answer.

Plant:

You are allowed to post the buyers ID. It may help

should have read,

You are allowed to post the buyers ID.

The implication that advice might help someone was the violation, not the truth that depending on which board's unwritten rules are in effect that even a seller ID can be posted in the body of a post whether or not the poster has activity with the seller.  The restriction, poorly enforced (or basically ignored and not reported) on many boards is against ANY member ID in the thread title.  As far as actual written eBay policy only an item number or web address is thus restricted in the title.

We can't post private member info but since when is a member ID private other than during an auction run?

I was hopeful once upon a time that we would have been able to engage in real conversation with John regarding policies and moderation and specifically the Discussion Board Usage Policy, which, funny or not, nearly a year past their demise STILL suggests we engage in chat rooms.  How behind is that?

You are allowed to post the buyers ID. It may help

should have read,

You are allowed to post the buyers ID.

And I knew that too, I deserved that one, I guess.

I actually knew why half my post was blue, Fruit. I suppose I was trying to point out that, that stuff just shouldn't happen. It's as if we've been running on half finished software for a year now.

In all fairness, my following post on that same thread questioning the pull was left so, it does seem someone is at the wheel. Maybe it's just growing pains.

On the CG's job description, maybe it's just me but that irritates me no end. I guess it's just the fact a company has managed to get themselves in a position that they have to treat their public that way, and even write such a thing.

Interesting, They pull a post that is helpful but not in any sense of written policy disallowable - and yet discussing a pulled post (as we are doing now) is a clear policy violation.

But that's just one more of the restrictions on discussions that is nonsensical if approached in a calm manner.

For example if my post is pulled and I say WTH who took my post, or if I say there must be a software glitch since one of my previous posts disappeared it is two different (to me) things

Perhaps this is as designed - a change in the Attachment in the Answer Cente.,

The lesser Attachment image no longer shows in the post - it can only be viewed by opening the Attachment itself.

Prior to the upgrade "Add" meant the smaller Attachment image was able to be seen in the post itself, prior to opening the Attachment:

Example:

Re: Community Upgrades
Jul 1, 2012 04:22 AM

This is about the 5th time I have crafted a post, hit "post" and received the following (plus loss of finely crafted writing)

Please fill out all of the required fields.
[You cannot preview or create a blank post.]

Any clues or anyone else seeing same thing? I do know with certainty that spellcheck is toggled ON at the time but I also have had no trouble other times withi it ON. (IE9/W7)

Another thing and this ought to be high up on someone's radar and seriously that eBay employee should get canned- eBay is not in the  spellcheckdictionary!!!!! (of course neither is "spellcheck", or spellchecker, word that eBay uses to describe it; see toggle spellchecker)

Also the previous version of spell check would (or is it my imagination) properly split a compound word it felt should be two. So for example spellcheck suggestion is simply spell and then I would if accepting that have to additionally type check (or edit in other fashion by inserting space)

Does ignorng a word ignore it for all time on my computer or only in said post? Shouldn't there be an option to "add to dictionary" albeit only local?

Fruit, sometimes the only way to get the spell check of italics to engage is to refresh, at least that's the last resort before backing out of your post all together and reposting just to get a few options to work. :|

Anyway, I lost several posts over a few days time as "refresh" started eating them a few days ago. I assume they were just working on the boards and that caused the problem, just couldn't be helped, I guess.

FWIW to anyone, I got a keylogger that now copies everything I post and I can recover the post with a click or 2 and a cpy/pst. Beats losing those long posts that you just don't want to type again.

Just be sure you have the logger setup in the firewall for no outgoing or incoming.

It's not just you.  That snotty little "we'll talk AT you, but not WITH you" annoys the hell out of me.

I don't use spell check, but people on SC are saying it doesn't recognize thier as being misspelled.  **Rolls eyes**

Re: Community Upgrades

I'm not very impressed with a spell checking program that can't recognize common mistakes such as "their" being spelled "thier."

I'm also curious as to why the program marks "email" as a misspelling and then offers "email" at the top of the list of suggested corrections.  I would think that an improvement to the program would have corrected that.  Unfortunately, I appear to have thought wrong.

I'm wondering if the programmers that did the upgrade to the spell check program could possibly have received their education from an online school with a faulty spell check program?

Indeed, apparently two changes were made within the past few hours:

(1) Useful words like eBay, PayPal, USPS, even SNAD are now recognized.

(2) Letter reversals are often not recognized.  Not only thier but also becuase and shoudl.

FYI I've been getting that red error message today after spell-checking, too. You can fix it (on my browser at least) by just hitting the back button and clicking on Post again.

Does anyone know what the toggle spell checker button is supposed to do?  It doesn't seem to do anything for me, except now that I've hit it a few times, this entire paragraph is underlined in red.  It didn't stop when I hit the toggle button once more.

You are probably right, Lucky.

I pressed that toggle button with no text and it told me there were no mispelled words. Then with mispelled words and it underlined them so, I guess it enables Spell Check.

We used to call that an on/off button.

Re: Community Upgrades
Jul 2, 2012 08:28 AM

I'm seeing two buttons up there, an ABC button, and a drop down arrow.  If I click the ABC button, it either tells me I have no misspelled words, or underlines anything misspelled.  If I click the drop down arrow, it does nothing, unless I type more.  In that case, it underlines everything I type after clicking the arrow, even though nothing is misspelled.

So, I wonder if we will see anything from the guides today.
