I believe it is because there isn't much demand for it. Photographers use canned air a lot in the darkroom and you might be able to find cheaper brands at your local camera shop.

Often free after rebate at officemax and sometimes staples. I've got about 5 cans of air and 3 of endust for electronics in my basement...

But in general, you will find that PC accessories are often priced high. While there is a constant war on lowering computer prices, people seem less sensitive to these add-ons (like $20 printer cables!).

I bought a Shark vacuum cleaner...you know, the little mini vacuum that they show holding up a bowling ball. It works better then canned air because it cleans the carp out, not just blow it away. Works great. Cost me 19.99 at Macy's going out of business sale. That's the cost of 3 cans of air plus tax.

Have to make sure the air out of the compressor is dry.

I'm leary of using forced ait to clean. What if...

I prefer the vacuum method. Just have to careful not to slam it around inside your case.

Put a moisture/oil trap in line with the compressor.

If you ever seen the A-plus testing or study guides, it is recommended that compressed air is used over a vacuum cleaner because, as they put it, a vacuum cleaner can cause a static charge to build up. A-plus also calls the connector on a hard drive a "Berg connector". LOL!

Air can also create static, but thats another physics lesson. If the vacuum is grounded correctly, it shouldn't be a problem.

There is a special vacuum cleaner which is constructed from conductive plastics. 3M makes one and the little thing runs a whopping 250+ smackers. I have one in my shop, but, IMHO, compressed air does a much better job.

...anyway, the reason canned air is so expensive is that it is not air which is inside the can. The stuff in our shop is 1,1,1,2 Tetrefluoroethane. Fluorcarbons are VERY expensive due to terrifs placed on them by the government because they are ozone depleting.

Do you have any idea how many people it takes blowing into straws to get all that air into the can? If you did, you wouldn't complain about the price.
I heard that they tried to subcontract that work to the French, but all that came out was smelly hot air, and the French made cans didn't sell very well.
The canned air companies decided that depleting the ozone layer was less of a problem...

I heard that the French canned air actually sucked...giving in to e.g.'s reasoning for not using a vacuum.

You have to be careful with that stuff. Once I worked on an ancient very dusty computer and I think the dust was all that had been holding it together.

If you live near a Costco, they have it 4 large cans for about $11.00 regularly.

I still think that canned air is too expensive.

Can anyone remedy that situation?

air should be, well, free.

Air IS free...at one atmosphere.

Air at positive or negative pressure is NOT.
