Thanks for that information, I wonder....if a resident Pink would be able to anchor this to the top of the board? It would be very useful.

And my standard spiel. The programs mentioned are the ones I happen to use. There are others that do the same thing and this post in not meant to promote these products. It is simply for your information.

I Run XP Pro fully patched, etc.
IE 6.xxx, fully patched etc.
AdAware (updated)- Run this first
Spybot (updated)- Run this second
Spyware Blaster (updated)- Run this third, and update once a week.
Norton Anti-Virus Pro 2004 (updated)
Norton Ant-Spam 2004 (updated)
ZoneAlarm (updated)
Outlook Express 6

I'm on a cable connection trough a router.
There is a 3 PC internal network connected through the router.

I have never had a virus
I have never had a worm
I have never had a trojan horse
I have never had a web site hijacked

I do get some spyware occasionally because I get lazy about updating Spyware Blaster.

Believe me when I tell you this combination WORKS!

WOW - All those? I have Norton Anti-Virus pro2004 updated.
and since posting have now installed Ad-aware Professional. Do I really NEED Spybot and Spyware Blaster too?
I am using XP Professional on a cable connection with a router. I am not very good with computers and don't know what some jargon means so please don't get too technical. I know its no excuse but I am a female....:)

Read your other post. Female has nothing to do with it. My wife can out tech most techs, (including me sometimes).

So much for thr macho thing. I have in the "high tech" industry for over 8 years, and still don't know what a lot of the technical jargon means!
Thats why I explain to my clients the difference between Dial Up, DSL, T1, and Cable in these terms: Bicycle. Automobile. Automobile with no brakes or gas pedal, it goes at the same speed, and costs a fortune. A really fast car with a very bad driver, it goes speeds up and slows down for no particular reason, and there is nothing much you can do about it.

I ran the first two today, and barely got rid of virtual bouncer (a key logger, among other things)and ad destroy. I've still got a "toolbar" named allaboutsearching and a one labeled rainbird platform. Will that take care of those?

to-serve-the-machine -- that is what I have been doing all day. I'd rather clean house than my computer!

Thanks tek_freek!

I'm rid of that stupid "search bar", which had a sex and gambling search prominently displayed...and everything runs so much faster now!

I have to admit that I did that to myself. I'll have to lurk here more often!

Just wanted to express my appreciation for all the great information provided here, and on other threads.

Because of this computer board, I've now got three free ad-ware/spy-ware programs on my computer that I use daily (not to mention Zone Alarm and the AVG anti-virus program). I run two alternating ad/spy-ware checks every day, unless there's still an "issue", and then run the third one too. Today neither Ad-Aware 6.0 or Spybot came up with anything, so I also ran Spy Sweeper which then found 4 spyware items to be removed.

Thanks!!

nature_nutz, Don't forget Spyware Blaster. It keeps the junk from getting into the PC in the first place.

This is a good one: It's a Windows based pre-intalled environment. In other words it boots from the CDROM into a Windows XP/Server2003 environment. You can map drives, copy data and do all the good things you may need. You must use XPSP1 CD or a Windows Server 2003 (but all that is explained on the website).
I tested it, and it works very well. Does the same job as Winternals ERD Commander, not as "slick", but costs nothing. They do ask for a donation.
