Preschool outdoor ornaments?

Nov 2, 2009 6:00 PM
I am a preschool teacher and our class was asked to make ornaments to go on a Christmas tree in the park downtown. Does anyone have any ideas on ornaments easy enough for 4 and 5 year olds to make AND be able to withstand outside weather?

Thanks in advance!

Don't know if this sounds good to you, but I was thinking you could take clear plastic drink cups and decorate them with glitter, inside, and call them bells. String pipe cleaners through an adult-drilled hole in the bottom for a clapper and way to hang the ornament. Does this make sense?

Good luck!

One thing my 6 year old and I like to make are christmas ornaments made out of clay like fimo, sculpey, or air dry clay etc. If you make them out of the colored clay then you wouldn't have to worry about painting them.

Those foam sheets hold up in the weather. Instead of glue which may become brittle in extreme temperatures you could stitch things together with yarn.

Some easy to make shapes that you could make out of the foam sheets are:

Snowflakes
Snowmen
Stockings
Redbirds

and.... spray paint some pine cones and put glitter on them or that white glitter that looks like snow.

Sounds like a fun project. :)

Thanks for the great ideas! I love the one with the cups. We also have a supply of the foam stuff. I thought about the pine cones - my mom has them all over her yard.

Sharlotte, I LOVE the way you spell your name!
