Selling Avon on eBay

This is for all of the Avon representatives out there (and for all other would-be Avon buyers as well). I am an Avon representative and I have been instructed by Avon that it is AGAINST COMPANY POLICY to sell current or future Avon products on any online service. The only way that is allowed is if you sign up for a website through myavon.com. I've noticed an increasing number of representatives on eBay violating this company policy and have tried to enlighten as many as possible, only to be told by most that it's none of my business. Unfortunately for those who feel that way, Avon will soon be warning them that if they do NOT desist, they will no longer be Avon representatives.
Starting May 1—get up to 2,500 FREE listings* every month with an eBay Stores subscription

With eBay’s new everyday rate plans, you get from up to 150 to 2,500 FREE listings* per month—no insertion fees, auction-style or fixed price—with an eBay Stores subscription. You pay a final value fee only when you sell! *Pay no insertion fees for your allotted free listings per calendar month. Optional fees, including advanced listing upgrades and supplemental service fees, still apply. I see no problem with selling Avon on ebay if you have the merchandise in stock at your home and do not have to order it. It could be a product someone ordered and decided they did not want it. I recently signed my daughter up to sell Avon and I read nothing in their policy that stated one could not sell it online outside of Avon website. Avon is a DIY business and plenty of business owners sell products on ebay. In my opinion, it is similar to buying products at wholesale and reselling.

It's stated in their policy you cannot sell on Ebay and my listings were canceled when somebody reported those items. But some of the sellers are doing business like that for a while and the company won't take action against them. Even earlier posts here are saying the same thing. Is there anything that could stop this unfairness? Maybe FTC?

Is there a policy of selling merchandise that is returned and never used that is no longer available through Avon?

hmm  some of us have finally figured it out that the only ones making money from avon being sold on ebay are ebay and avon. the product has been devalued and the profit potential from ebay avon sells are basically zero.  what a big waste of time trying to sell avon on ebay

I agree! Not only is it a waste of time, but I, as a 25-yr Avon rep veteran, tried to sell Avon on eBay about 6 months and my listings were promptly and swiftly removed by Avon thru VERO. They said they can't be watching everyone who sells Avon on eBay, but they found me!

Avon wants as many (or all) of their reps as possible to become an e-rep and have their own site. I tried that twice and had no success getting customers to buy from me. It just wasn't worth the hassle or the monthly cost. THAT'S why Avon doesn't want Avon reps to sell on eBay. Because Avon doesn't make money from those sales (except for the cost of the products purchased originally by the rep), but they can make more money if each rep is an e-rep and they pay Avon $7.50 a month for that privilege.

I have to spend like 15 minutes deciphering the invoices, because of all the charges that get put on that don't seem to be explained in their Video classes ;)

And the website they make you pay for also doesn't lead directly to your page--they have to type into "Find a Rep" but I think people can just buy directly from the website without even having to find  a rep . I have had NO business off the site at all.

I did read something about some post ing on ebay rule, but whatever. There's tons of avon auctions going on here! lol I pay for it, it belongs to me. That means I can sell it lol

I mostly sell returns or stuff that I buy in bulk.  I don't see what the harm is in that when the stuff is no longer available through AVON.  They encourage us to keep the returns (if not used) and sell it.   I am getting to the point that I am going to send the returns back.

This is what Avon sent me when they took down my Products for Auction:

It has come to our attention that you are advertising and selling Avon products in and through a web site other than an authorized Avon-provided personalized Web page.

According to the Avon Advertising and Promotion guidelines:

• Only the Avon-provided personalized Web pages of eRepresentatives are authorized for use on the World Wide Web.  These approved Web pages are for the express use of promoting and advertising your Avon business.

• Representatives may not create any unauthorized Web page for the purpose of promoting, advertising or selling Avon products or services, and/or for presenting the Avon Earning Opportunity (such as, by way of example, on and through pages on eBay or MySpace.com)

In view of the foregoing, Avon has taken action to remove your auction and to stop your unauthorized sales of Avon products.  Failure to comply with the Avon Advertising and Promotion guidelines in the future may result in your removal as an AVON Independent Sales Representative.

A copy of the Avon Advertising and Promotion guidelines can be obtained through your District Sales Manager or in the Resources Library at yourAVON.com.

Thank you for your cooperation.

The first one of my ads was taken down stating, "Members are not allowed to use images or text from another member's listings without that member's permission. Doing so may violate copyright laws. Images used on another website may also be protected by copyright law. You should not copy and use images from another website without first getting permission to use that content. We encourage members to take and use their own photographs...."

I so called copied and used someone else's images. WTH???? I had my own picts up and used my own wording!!! SINCE I'm new at selling on eBay, didn't think nothing of it. and was like, "oh well" I had 2 of the same ads anyway and only one was reported. Thought I'd have a chance with my other ad. So, left my other ad  alone and didn't take it down.

BTW, I don't sell my items below market as some may do to attract more cutomers.

But when my second ad was reported today (3 days later) and I noticed the other ads like mine were still up, That's when I thought, it isn't AVON or Vero monitoring ads. It's other reps selling the same line of product doing the reporting to Avon and Vero. I got an email for this ad which was identical from my previous ad, stating, "The rights owner or an agent authorized to act on behalf of the rights owner, Avon Products, Inc., notified eBay that this listing violates intellectual property rights. When eBay receives a report of this type of violation, we remove the listing to comply with the law..." So I think it's B**l S**T.  Two same ads with 2 different complaints. COME ON!

I also got the same letter you got today exept through email. I really love AVON and their products. But I personally think that  there are other reps reporting others on eBay. Just flat out playing dirty! It's just sad that people have this dog eat dog mentality.  It doesn't make sense to do so when there is so much business out there on the internet. We're pretty much all in different states for crying out loud! You can't have the whole market to ya self!

Anyways that was my experience. No sweat! I'll be going to classified ads now. ;) They want it all let have it all!

Actually I get rid of excess inventory of stuff that was returned and not used.   I put in my wording that if they like the product, contact your local AVON representative.  I don't do it to get customers.  I am satisfied with the customers I have.

Re: Selling Avon on eBay

This 'can't sell AVON on Ebay' is such nonsense!! My husband and I were out shopping today and stopped in the '99 cent only' store to pick up some things. Well, imagine my surprise when I saw AVON deodorants on the shelf AND this wasn't the first time I saw AVON products in a store! Now I'm pretty confident an AVON Rep didn't display those there, so I'd have to guess that AVON sold those to the store to sell - for what, oh yes, for PROFIT!
So answer me this, if AVON can do that, WHY can't Reps sell AVON on Ebay?? I see no harm in it as long as they sell it for the appropriate prices - that can be done. Don't undercut AVON or other Reps because that would be very, very wrong!!
I used to be an AVON Rep and am considering signing up again. However, I'd like the opportunity to sell on Ebay if I so choose. If 'I' buy the products first, have them on hand WHY can't I sell them on Ebay, providing I price them correctly and not undercut anyone?
I'd love to hear feedback on this.

Thank YOu

I do not know why exactly that Avon's representative policy prohibits selling on any website other than the replicated site we are given at no cost. I just know that it is and that is how it is.  I managed to sell over $78000 in Avon products last year using my online store and to customers in my area offline.   I set up booths at events in my area to sell sometimes but these are one day events like the spring festival.

when I joined Avon I agreed to the policy guidelines on the contract so that's how I run my Avon business.
