From threads I've read on the boards, posters have stated that the Chinese government subsidises their postal system, thus the China sellers have extremely minimum "out of pocket" postage cost.

Be advised as well, that if you should purchase this "fake junk" from China, and have to make a SNAD (significantly not as described) claim through paypal or eBay......you will be required to send it back with delivery confirmation.

That may require you pay $25 to get back you 99 cents.

Therefore these sellers are in a sense "immune" to any buyer claims, because nobody will carry through.

Been going on for years.....

Always keep in mind what your mommy told you....if it is too good to be true...likely it is......a scam.

You will never get a 14K gold ring with a carat diamond from chinal for 99 cents.   There are the "stupid" that think they will...only because they feel if it was FAKE..eBay would have gotten rid of the listing......

....so sorry...eBay makes money...they don't care.

Unless you paid with your credit card.

1.  China subsidizes shipping costs for Chinrese sellers.

2.  eBay, USPS, and China Post signed a three-way deal a year or two back to provide cut-rate shipping from China to the U.S.  Even without any Chinese subsidy, Chinese sellers can get Small Packet First Class shipping to the U.S. WITH Tracking for less than you can send the same item within the U.S. - nevermind what it would cost you to ship something to China with tracking.

Chinese sellers sell oil paintings for 0.99p and £37 shipping to the UK. The paintings come in cardboard tubes and cost about $9-£12 to ship. I've posted items to China and the rates are the same UK to China as UK to USA. However, although they are not great art, it is hard to argue that the pictures with the gouged shipping are not worth the money. They are not scamming eBay or the consumer, they are scamming Customs and Excise as Value Added Tax on a price of 0.99p is about  0.17p. If the items were sold for £30 with £8 shipping the VAT due would be a lot more.
