There is no seller protection
Never selling on ebay again.!!!!!!!!!!! Buyer states the item I sold is not working and sends it back, I tested it an it was working. Ebay refunded him and left me with all listing fees and shipping. Another item that I sold AS IS and not working condition clearly sated in listing. byer receives it and contacts me saying it is not working and wants refund. FUNNY HUH not really buyer get a refund with buyer protection and again ebay colects its listing fees and I pay the shipping out of my pocket. I forgot to mention their costumer service in India sucks too. I have been a member since 2001. Amazon is much better.

awesome seller protection!!
It doesn't exist! I have only been selling again after a year hiatus and already been hosed HUGELY by false claims by buyers!!
Ebay doesn't think twice about going after me for this stuff and I'm FURIOUS!!
If it says "no returns" that means NO RETURNS people! What in God's name is the point of having a "return policy" if it's going to be usurped by Ebay anyway?? To give the Seller a false sense of security?? I don't like it. I feel violated and I am done.
People are just too shady these days. Times have changed, BIG TIME.
Nothing we can do about that but Ebay makes me mad and so does Paypal with the "payment holds'' BS!
Just venting really but we NEED an alternative to this site!

I think we should contact a lawyer to pursue a class action suit against eBay for it's buyer protection policy that automatically holds the seller in the wrong. An item I sold was misdelivered by the post office. Within 10 days of the sale eBay had refunded the buyer. Since my account was new, PAYPAL had never released the payment to me and I got a message from eBay that I have to pay them for the refund. Yesterday, I got a message from buyer that the post office had finally delivered his package. So, now what we have, is a buyer who has an item that he didn't pay for and a seller who was never paid and a claim against the seller from eBay for the original cost of the item.
I think I'll start buying on eBay!

I had been on ebay as seller almost 10 years but since ebay set buyer favour on Ebay Buyer Protection . It really hurt as a seller due to seller does not have any seller protection at all and it gave the oppotunity for buyer to scam. I had a buyer bought an item Fireplace tool set with the stand. After she receive the item and claim she want the Log holder too just because the picture show part 10% of the Log holder leg next to the tool set. On the picture does not show whole thing of that log holder, it can be something else. Beside that done stated on the item listing description clearly only the tool set and stand is for sale. I guess the buyer play stupid or retarded saying my picture is misleading her thought she will get all whatever on the picture. Perhaps i should ask her do i have to include the door and the carpet on her order since the item picture had a back ground door and carpet too...Obviously she try to scam get free item...just because she had Buyer protection benefit. She escalate to ebay on the issue to solve her problem. After ebay investigate and found i'm was right and she was wrong on this issue. What I'm not happy with ebay reimburst her full refund including the shipping without return back the item. So at the end she got the item free and get her money back... what the hack! Eventhough I don't need reimburse to ebay for that refund but I still think this is not right and unfair as a honest seller try to make a buck, obviously the buyer is scam to get free item and ebay let it go. This encouraging the buyer to do the same thing to other seller another scam again next time. I hope ebay take seriously and do something right on ebay buyer protection, not all buyer is honest now a day. As a seller on ebay what protection we have ? None..!. thats not fair. Soon or later all the seller will switch to amazon . If no seller on ebay, then it won't be any buyer either, at the end ebay will screw themself...no business!!.
Am i right? So as a seller we might consider switch to Amazon or other site to sell our stuff.

I have been selling for 5 years. All of a sudden i tried to relist an item and it would not let me.It said i have to open a buyer protection acct. When i read the buyer has 45 days to return and they would pay the buyer and i would have to pay back Ebay. Then they said it would not be a tool for buyers remorse. Thats exactly what it is!! I knew right away i would only buy and no longer sell. Now i sell on Craigslist and Amazon. I bet it gets really bad with buyers playing with the items they buy, then try to send them back when they break them and the novelty wears off!!

Something needs to be done to protect sellers.
Ebay and PayPal are so concerned about buyers protection but the sellers get the short end everytime. If it wasn't for sellers Ebay and Paypal would be out of business.
I am tired to buyers that don't pay. Buyers that say something doesn't work, returns it the most expensive method possible only for me to receive it and it works fine. So who will Ebay and Paypal back - the buyer! I am trying to make an honest living as an honest seller but I am seriously at a point that it is time to look for another avenue because this one has some serious issues.

Answer ...... Amazon and Craigslist for starters... I am a new seller to eBay. I am honest to a fault, or so I'm told. I had a Winning bidder who wouldn't pay for weeks and non-responsive till I took out unpaid claim. THEN buyer emailed back comments like, "you know how importaint your feedback score is... Don't you"? I Thought I was covered because I opened an unpaid item claim. Buyer wouldnt close case and held off paying to the last moment. Then buyer was allowed to give me negative feedback saying I sent package to wrong address? Even though I sent package via mail confirmation! I also confirmed with local postmaster... Talked to him personally. eBay did nothing to correct. So as buyer made good on his threats, and my feedback went from 100% to 95% almost right from the start. That must be part of the buyer protection button...

There actually is seller protection.
http://pages.ebay.com/sellerinformation/sellerprotection/sellerprotection.html
If you do your listings right and provide detailed information with lots of pictures that you took yourself, then you will win a case in most instances. As far as the feedback goes if someone is threatening you with negative feedback ebay will remove it.

"you will win a case in most instances" with so few feedback, please excuse but you are too green to comment on that. Ebay has a HUGE - -HUGEEEEEEEEEE - history of NOT standing up for sellers. Read many, many, many posts in this forum and all over the web.

"As far as the feedback goes if someone is threatening you with negative feedback ebay will remove it." - -This is very much NOT true, not true at all. I have documented proof and legal documentation, too, plus you'll find plenty more of the same type documentation online from many, many sellers. Sounds like you work for eBay ;0

Yep, new eBay policy that you cannot relist (not even a Classified ad, for goodness sakes) without giving your own credit card, even though you have automatic payment withdraw via Paypal with your eBay stores. Ridiculous and not right, especially when they never back sellers while people accept your goods, confirm tracking and still charge back, saying the goods never arrived, etc.
Closed up shop for now. Had it with this nonsense.
Some day, eBay may really stand up for sellers. Doubtful, though. Those days sure are long gone.
Sigh ...
See y'all at Craigslist, Amazon and other places where it's 100X better - - much cheaper (even free in many cases like at Craigslist) - and where sellers are respected and helped, not just the buyers.

I have been burned twice big ticket items. One thing I have learned ALWAYS resist communicating with a buyer with your emal outside of eBay. Ea. buyer arranges shipping and insurance with ups. He claims it's item broken. I figure I'm out of it. He can file with ups. Ups drags feet ,buyer inpatient, files with eBay item not as described . Buyer now got his money back from ups and the 345.00 shipping and he gets to keep the item. And still tries to extort money from me through eBay. If eBay had all the communications I had email with this guy he'd be I jail.

Buyers are very savvy now as how to rip off sellers thanks to ebay's ridiculous rules. They target new and newer sellers as well as established sellers and get items for free. It's disgusting. Ebay WILL find for you if you did nothing wrong, didn't communicate outside of ebay, BUT.... the buyer can still file a chargeback if they used a credit card via paypal !! and then you lose. Try selling on webstore.com, it's FREE to list and sell items auction style, the volume isn't anything like ebay - yet - hoping it will catch on and become popular. I have sold items there and love it.

Presently using an old Ebay username now thanks to the buyer protection BS. Been buying & selling on Ebay for over 10 years, never a problem. 100% feedback w/over 1100 transactions. I sell an item "NO RETURNS or EXHANGES" What is there not to understand? It was a vintage item. I listed 8 pics front & back. I even sent a $1.00 bill w/item to cover s/h overage. Buyer gets remorse & wants money back. He files a claim w/Ebay & they refund him the purchase. Ebay then wants reimbursement of full amount including, get this, the seller fees. Not only am I out the full amount, but it cost me money to lose money. I've always taken the greatest descriptive care when listing an item. Called Ebay & Paypal each at least 4x's to protest this debacle in the way they treat sellers. I closed both accounts, Ebay & Paypal, never to sell again. Used this to post here! Using Amazon & Craigslist now. Use "Propay" instead of "Paypal"

Ebay will go through great lengths to help buyers rip off sellers. it is unbelievable. Feedback extortion is rampant. Mailing fraud, item not as described frauds. I am seriously considering quiting ebay. Just because it makes me so angry.
Then I talk to customer no service and things just get worse.
If you are selling high volume then it probably doesn't hurt you much but if you are just doing a few hundred sales a year then it is very hurtful and agrivating.

I totally agree with everything that has been said on this discussion board. I just started selling in May 2012 and have been burnt by "Buyer Protection". It's amazing how you can sell an item on buy it now and to receive payment you have to file an unpaid item claim. After a customer is forced to pay,(for something they wanted to buy) they can leave negative feedback and there isn't a thing you can do about it. I'm learning the hard way the seller has no protection. Being new to selling, I have called customer support several times and given advice. After following advice, I get burned. When I call back to customer support to complain, all I got was, "I'm sorry that isn't the policy and the previous support rep was incorrect" Well that's nice, and now my feedback score is ruined. Thanks for the terrible advice.

An absolute farce. I am doing all I can to spread the word about the corruption on eBay. I am contemplating posting the username of the miser.
In preparation of setting up a nursery, my wife and I decided to sell the items on eBay instead of doing a yard sale of something along those lines. Of course, the most expensive item is the one with a problem. I received positive feedback on every other transaction.
A cheat (that's what he is) received a fender guitar from me. Even though it was in great condition, I still listed it as used and posted nine photos. The guy buys it, I send it same day. Then all of a sudden he sends me a message demanding an apology and a $125 partial refund because of all the dents. There were no dents. I asked him to send me pictures of the damage to make sure it was the same guitar. And if it really was damaged as implied, why not a full refund??? He didn't want a full refund, just partial. I asked him to point the dent out on the photos in the listing and he said he was insulted at the accusations. I tell him to send it back. He still demands a PARTIAL REFUND - which obviously screams he knows it is a great guitar. I refuse stating I am not going to let him extort his profit margin (he is a dealer, said as such and sells guitars on eBay) out of me. He opens a case and being naive to the eBay realm (I thought it was legitimate) I just send it to them for resolution. To me, there was no question he was at fault. Matter of fact, he is at fault. But let's say there were a few dents, I still listed it as used which includes cosmetic wear (dents). They found in the buyer's favor and have ordered him to return it for a full refund. Now I am sitting here three business days later, with no guitar and no funds. Still no tracking information either. Who knows if he banged the guitar on the ground before sending it. Who knows if he will even send it.
And in terms of integrity. What about the other people that bid on the guitar? What about the other "buyers"? Am I supposed to give it to this scam artist for less than the next bidder? That person may have actually wanted to use it and been pleased.
eBay is a scam and my mission is to make sure everyone knows it.

I agree that there should definately be more on the side of the sellers as far as making sure that we can conduct business without having to worry about people scamming us. Aside the fact that ebay gets nothing from the buyers...Even pays them to purchase with ebay bucks... all the fees and such are paid by us the sellers... So Ebay, your going to pay less attention to the people who are paying your employees who don't generally tend to help us when we really need it anyway?? that sure sounds like a screwy kind of system to me. Pay buyers to scam, and still charge the seller final value fees, listing fees, and even a cut of the cost to ship it! All we want is the same respects and the benifit of the doubt once in a while. I'm sure most claims that go through ebay are given about 20-30 seconds of actual thought before they default to giving the buyer not only their money back but the product as well.
Sellers need protection too, especially if we have to pay to sell here.

Nope, buyer payments covers your listing fees as well as the price of item.
The only time that seller ends up paying the listing fees out of their own pocket is when they encounter non-payer, for this Ebay gave them the ability to file UPI cases to get their fees back.

I've been on ebay for many years, had 100% positive feedback.
I sell tropical plants, I specialize in growing a rare species of plants called Jewel Orchids. Last year I had some idiot order several plants, and after recieving them left a negative reply for each plant. Her claim was that plants were too small for the price.
Specifics:
Plants listed in ad stated that plants were 2-3" in size. I sold them for 8.95 each.
In contrast, the same plants, same size commonly sell for 14.95 to 19.95 from virtually every other vendor on the market for the exact same size.
The plants I sent to here were actually substantially larger than I had listed, having grown out since the ad had been posted. the plants shipped to her averaged a minimum of 4-6" in size.
Of course I was shocked to see the negatives, and when I looked at her profile, she had a clear history of placing false negatives, with everyone being disputed in reply by the sellers. All the feed backs she left had the same basic 'trend' to them. And when I say a history of placing negatives, I'm talking very large numbers of them.
Of course eBay did nothing about it, Ignored my attempts to appeal this or reverse unfair negatives. even worse is I often provide 'bonuses' on multi item orders to entice customer loyalty, usually an extra plant for free, only to be burned for it.
As a result, I lost my eBay Power Seller rating, I lost my Top Seller rating. And of course, who wins? eBay. Since I was stripped of my good guy status, my costs to list and sell on eBay went up as I lost the good seller perks for being a Power Seller/Top rated seller.
ebay is not a friendly place to sell, they are as bad as the bad customers. Any pretense at being seller friendly is a ruse to sucker idiots into a sense of false security, nothing more.
I for one would welcome a viable alternative.
