Need advice with a suspicious buyer
Jun 11, 2012 02:37 PM

Greetings all!

Last night I listed a lot of 17 3G - 16gb iphones and set the BIN to $1499.

This morning, someone bought the lot. I sent them an invoice and their response was to send me some specific questions about the condition of the phones. Now, if it was me, I'd be asking these questions BEFORE I did a BIN.

Additionally, the buyer has a feedback of 4. When I looked at his feedback, they were all purchases made yesterday, 6/10! They were all for .99 cent phone chargers. Something about this doesn't smell right to me. Anyone have any insight or advice?

Thanks!

Hiyah yes they should have ASKED questions before hand..

since they went at a high amount make sure you protect yourself

get insurance on the package and Signature confermation is your best bet  other then that ask why didnt they ask these questions before they bought the lot:-D

You are right, something doesn't smell right. I would refer him to the auction description and ask if he has specific questions regarding that description. My guess is he won't pay, so just wait 4 days and file a non-payiong bidder report...then another 4 days and cancel the sale.  Then block him from bidding again.

Well, they just sent me the money. It is currently in my PayPal account. I definitely plan to ship the phones via UPS with insurance and a signature required for delivery.

My big worry is that this will be "item not as described" scam. There is no way that I know of to protect myself against that. Shippers don't/won't verify the contents, Never mind that everything is just as I say it is in the description,

I don't know. What would you guys do?

What was his user ID? I had a buyer with a feedback of 4 that bid on a tablet I had listed and hasn't paid nor respond to any of my request for payment or emails.

Can't even leave appropiate feedback which really sucks.

I suggest shipping USPS instead of UPS. If it is, in fact, a scam, using the Postal Service makes it a federal crime, and you can involve the postal inspectors.

give the buyer 7 days to pay, if he does not then open an unpaid item case agaisnt him, and what ever you do, do not let him talk you into cancelling the transaction. then make sure you block this person from ever bidding on anything of yours again, and let people know who he is. post his name here so others wont be ripped too. personally, if i see someone bid on my items valued over $50, and they have a real low feedback score(less than 10) i may very well just cancel there bid before the sale is even over. these are the buyers that will leave you negative feedback and wont pay up, they think its all a game.

Good luck to you, hope all goes well. For some reason I thought that the buy it now prices went away when a different bid was placed? ?:|?:|?:|

Hi Disc, Doesn't seem to fishy. Let'm pay and send the item/s. I get asked stuff all the time; pre & post sale. It's all good. Most important is that you keep your communication at 5 stars. This happens by responding to whomever about whatever, promptly.

Not responding will allow the buyer to cancel transaction etc., based on your lack thereof. So keep responding & good luck. If you need anything else, just ask. Sincerely, Curt

Newbie question is it possible for higher priced items to filter out any bidders with low feedback or new buyers?

Maybe this would be the way to go in the future if it is possible also i think i read where you can cancel any bid on auction before the end of it if you are leary of the buyer.

I agree...

Go USPS, those postal inspectors don't play.

If you're asking if there's a block you can set so low FB/new buyers CAN be blocked [ie. "Block ID's with FB of 0...or FB below 10, 25, 50".. etc.]...the answer is no.

There is a block available to block bidders who have received a certain number of UID "strikes" within a certain time frame [setting the block to "2 UID's within 12 months" gives the best protection available against prior reported nonpayers].

...also i think i read where you can cancel any bid on auction before the end of it if you are leary of the buyer.

Correct. Be sure to add the ID to your BBL if you don't want to allow them to rebid before the auction ends.
