Hi!! I am new to ebay (Feb., 2012) and am having a wonderful time. However, I am a little disenchanted that some sellers are not good about leaving feedback. This reflects on a buyer's record. There should be some sort of accountability on the seller and they should be given a reasonable amount of time to do so. A transaction should not be considered complete until feedback is left by both buyer AND seller!!!

Welcome to Ebay! I understand your point as I myself feel more comfortable selling to buyers that have at least a bit of history for obvious reasons.

Unfortunatley due to a minority of both bad buyers as well as sellers, I believe many sellers (myself not included) fail to leave feedback as all we are able to give is a good rating.

I used to give my buyers feedback the minute they paid but now wait until they leave feedback so I know they are happy.

Much good comes from communication so might I suggest that you contact your sellers and simply ask them?

Welcome to Ebay!

I also do the same thing and have it stated in my policies that I wait until the buyer gets their item and either contacts me 1st if there is a problem or leaves feedback if they are happy. If the buyer doesn't leave feedback after a few weeks I usually leave them feedback and also message them to make sure they are satisfied with their purchase.

But yes if you have left feedback and the buyer did not, just send them a query message, maybe they just overlooked it and do not realize it.

I understand where your coming from..I actually came to this board to post something on this same topic..I am getting more and more frustrated with sellers that try to withhold there feedback till they make sure that they will get a good one first..I do not believe this is right or fair..as a buyer our responsibility is to pay for the product we purchase..so once we do that our feedback should be automatic once the payment is complete..we have held up our end of things..I have a handfull of items I am waiting on to arrive as we speak and sellers that still have not left feedback on my profile..it is not the responsibility of the buyer to ask for that feedback..it is our responsibility to pay for the item we purchase in the time required..to hold a feedback "hostage" is just wrong..I believe that reflects bad on the seller..and I for one do not have any further dealings with a seller that withholds their feedback just to try and make sure they get a good one in return, even if it's not earned.

As a buyer, I felt the same way.  But now that I sell and realize that there are "BAD Apples" out there who love to abuse the system with feedback and returns, I will not leave feedback until the buyer has acknowledge  satisfaction with the product.  I have been subject to this behavior and once I leave feedback it can't be removed and my story should be told "IN WHOLE" not on a piece of the information.  "With hold" or "IN Whole".  Just another point of view

You're right. They shouldn't.

And sellers should never ask a buyer for feedback either.

 

Time for a visit to the Feedback board where this topic is visited nearly every day.

Feedback is a voluntary action on each member's part. All members are allowed to decide when OR if they wish to leave FB about a transaction. If one wishes to leave FB about a transaction, it must be done within 60 days of the end of auction.

Feedback is Totally Optional on both sellers and buyers.

 

as a seller when i ship i leave feedback.

as a buyer when i get the item i leave feedback even tho the seller did not.

As a seller, I have my account set up to leave positive feedback when it's given. If it is neutral or negative, but I haven't received a negative yet, but 2 neutrals; then I will leave feedback warning other sellers. The reason why I don't leave feedback first is because a buyer might not leave positive feedback. So if a buyer leave feedback like "not what I expected" or "poor quality", I block them even if they left positive feedback but a low rating. I will never leave a good feedback until it is given because there are some buyers out there that is never happy and some just so bored that they want to ruin other people business. Well I'm not having it! The buyer should leave their experience of the product first, then the seller should leave their experience last.

IDK...touchy subject really. :-p As a buyer, I think that once the product is received then you should give feedback. As a seller, if the buyer pays promptly then I suppose some feedback is in order. Of course, it's a give and take relationship. I mean I can't really see myself, as a buyer, giving postivie feedback if I'm not satisfied. Same goes for the seller.

 

I guess asking the seller to leave you feedback isn't bad, questions can't hurt right? :-p

Depends on what you define as being "hurt".

The worst "hurt" a seller can do to a buyer these days is limited to...1) Not leaving a buyer any FB. 2) Adding the buyer's ID to their Blocked Bidder List so the buyer can't purchase any further items from the seller. 3) Possibly sharing the buyer's ID with fellow sellers they personally know to alert them that they too may want to add the ID to their own BBL.

 

Our belief is it's best not to pester a transaction partner about leaving FB. If one wishes to leave FB, they are free to do so within 60 days of the listing ending.

I think you misunderstood my post. I do not wait to leave FB because I am withholding FB and trying to force my buyer into leaving good FB if they are unhappy. I like to wait to make sure they are happy with thier purchase. But I always leave my customers FB even if they have not.

The other thing is my son likes to "help" and on occasion has had me sell some of his collectible items I have given him (he is saving for his 1st computer). He gets excited with every sale, he helps write the thank-you notes to our customers and he had me send a message to a buyer that bought one of his cards  and did not leave FB because it hurt his feelings - it was one of his favorite cards (I did not tell his buyer he hurt my sons feelings though. lol, but I did have to make a query) The buyer was and still is one of my sons favorite customers.:-x
