New eBay Motors

Mar 16, 2009 4:05 PM
Hi everybody, before I go any further I would like to introduce myself. My name is Bob and I work with the Support teams for eBay Motors. I have been with eBay since 1999 and with Motors for the last five years. I wanted to bring some news about the New Motors site and expand on Rob Chesney’s Announcement Board post today (at Link ).

Since New Motors’ original debut in March 2007 there have been a host of changes, today the vast majority of eBay Motors buyers and sellers are using it. Thanks for the great suggestions, many from regular posters on this board, for making it even better. Based on what you have told us we have fine tuned the search experience to be quicker and easier. I’d like to call out a few of the changes here.

• To change or refine your search and add several search options at once click the "More choices" link that appears to the left of the search results. The "More choices" menu will appear and you can select multiple search options at once.
To change the values for a search option you've already applied, just click on the gray search option box to get a list of available options. Select the options you'd like, and click "Update" to update your search.

To remove search options, click the "X" in the upper right-hand corner of the gray box. The box will close and your search results will be updated to reflect the change.

• The More Choices menu also allows filtering by condition, seller and "for sale by". “Buying Options” refines search by listing format, description search, completed search, PayPal, free shipping and more advanced filters.

• You can also search for vehicles or parts in your local area, for cars and trucks, use the "Vehicles in your area" box located above the search results. Enter your ZIP Code, select a distance, and click the "Show Vehicles" button. Vehicles near you will appear sorted by distance, with the distance highlighted in yellow. For parts and accessories, motorcycles, and other vehicles, click the "More choices" or "See all" links to the left of the search results and select the Location search option on the More Choices menu. This will narrow the search results to show listings near you.

• Once you have a search you like you can easily save it by clicking the "Save Vehicle" button on a vehicle's product page or on all other search pages, click the "Add to Favorite Searches" link above the search results.

With these changes and two years of testing behind us, we’re ready to retire the old eBay Motors site on April 13, 2009. You will be able to switch back and forth until the 13th, if you haven’t tried the New Motors site recently please take it for a test spin, just click the "try it now" link at the top of the site pages. We have updated the Frequently Asked Questions and will be hosting office hours Wednesday 3-19-09 from noon to 1:00 pm PDT here on the board to help address any questions.

This new E-bay motors really SUCKS. This has to be the worst “improvement” anyone has ever come up with. The “best match” default is a pain and it is very difficult to do a refined search(which was very easy with the old version). If you expect continued growth in your business, you better bring back what worked. That is the old version.

Been trying to use the new e-bay motors for the last 2 weeks, still can't find a way to get to the things I look for. I'm in to vintage snowmobiles and cars and like to browse for parts, looking for parts now takes to long and most searches pull up all kinds of other stuff unrelated. I call e-bay and told them about how bad the new format is, got a nice e-mail back about the teething pain the site is having and they are working on fixing things.(NOT!) I really dont think they have a clue on the way people search for things on there site. I think I'll be spending more time going to swap meets this year and forget about e-bay. Maybe if we all cancel our acounts them may notice.

Hey pick on the site, pick on eBay pick your nose even, But you don't have to get that personal here ... He's just a poor bastard that is stuck in a dead end job no one wants .. walk a mile in his shoes & you wouldn't be to keen to have to face this vicious mobb here .. I feel sorry for him because it's just going to get much worse before it gets better .. he's just trying to feed himself & maybe his kids .. he has tried to answer most but you got to know that he does have a gun to his head there & cannot answer some questions even though he does know the answer .. although myself i do like to call him checkerhead, but I figure it to be a term of endearment ..LOL :) ..

The good news today is the river rose 24% despite Donohoe telling everybody how bad the economy is, taking all the wind out of his over blown sails .. They (the river) posted record highs today too ... With reports like that , it won't be long before the stock holder will be banding together like a band of unrully villagers with pitch forks & torches, hunting The d-hoe down & burn him at the stake for dropping eBay down -18% more , down 2 qtrs in a row & lost a huge market share to the river again .. It was a 2 e-commerce race, but now its down to one new leader with eBay fading back in the rivers rear view mirror .. :)

Re: New eBay Motors

Apr 23, 2009 9:14 PM
checkers, I'll make this offer to you personally, only because I think I am too stupid to know URLs and all the other junk spewed in these answers.

Here is the offer:

I will put up $1500.00 guaranteed in a special account at my credit union for you to personally fly to Portland, Oregon, I'll pickup you up at the airport and drive you to my home.
I will have you put up at a fine motel/hotel nearby and return you to the airport for your return flight, expenses paid.
In return for this offer, I want you to spend up to 6 hours watching, working with me, showing me my errors, if any, for you to get a serious understanding of how we car people try to search the "new" motors site so maybe you can get a feeling of the pain we are going through.
I want you to see how long it takes to list an item.
I want you to see how long a "real" search takes.
I want you to see all the freezes.
I want you to see the one item shows and the scroll
freeze.
I want you to see how long the back button takes on a
search.
I want you to view anything I can present on my
computer in the 6 hour period. The actual time may
only actually be a hour or so.
The only constraint is that I want my computer guy,
who has only been to my home one time, be
present to review what we are doing, etc. I will
also pay for his time.

This offer is not a bluff, scare tactic or anything else, only a very serious offer on my part to try and get ebay motors where it is workable on both sides.

I would really like you to post your answer here on this thread. I have made this offer and am willing to back all of it up. I'm dead serious.

I need you answer here, for all to view. I poured my guts out, now it's your turn. I and all other motors members will assume that if you do not follow up or delete this thread that we are nothing more then a pimple on ebays a$$.

So please consider my offer and let's see if there is a possibility we can make some changes to help both EBM and us users. Your reply is ???

To: zboo2 - Count us in as donors, too...someone has to fix this, no matter how. I'm at a loss as to how Checkers might respond, considering that he, like all of us, has someone to answer to.

Tell ya what - you cut to the chase. Much appreciated.

I tried to do some searching again.
Got frustrated again.
Gave up, again.
DIDN'T BUY ANYTHING, AGAIN!
Spent the rest of my free time in the discussion group, again.
Posted, again.
Decided it was better to go download porn, again.

Definitly a bad choice removing the old version. Sure in theory and testing it may work great in theory but now its too time consuming to go through through the data.

Most people are impulse buyers, I know I am and I've done it many times on ebay

"Since New Motors’ original debut in March 2007 there have been a host of changes, today the vast majority of eBay Motors buyers and sellers are using it. This is because a vast majority either never saw the older version, or never found the link to go back to the older version. I talked too many people about this and they said it.

KISS (Keep it short and simple) Sure the new motors has a ton of great features, but some people like their life simplified. Drop downs cause the end user more mouse movement, more movement means fatigue in the wrists witch will cause users to leave.

And that Image with the
"Need help with the new eBay Motors site? call (800-701-3299)"
just shows that your having issues with clients.

I would almost guarentee traffic's lower and there are less transactions going on in the ebaymotors section..

Well good luck with it I know I'm not going to visit the section near as much anymore.

I've been looking all over for a place to give opinions on the new Ebay Motors site and only place I could find is this and a tell us link on the advance search which is where you have to go anyway to get anything found and then you have to re-type all the veh info in again.
I DESPISE the new Ebay Motors site. It's much more difficult to navigate and find what you want than the old site.
Autotrader has got it down pat. There site is clean and easy to find what you want quickly. Take some notes from them.
Thanks,
Mike Gibson

The Auto Trader is the last car site we need Ebay to be like. If you notice on Auto Traders parts section you cannot search by multiple years.

Most of the Classic cars on Auto Trader are way over priced.

I will try and ride this out with Ebay and hope things get better.

Right now I do my search through the Canada Ebay website. There is a link on the main page of this website at the bottom. You get almost everything that is on here,on the Canadian website anyway's. Just use the Customize Display to switch from Canadian money to U.S.

Ok, I know what this is a definition of... but I keep going into the new Motors and I keep getting the same disastrous result.

I loved the old eBay Motors.

Please bring it back!

Hey checkers. Why did ebay remove the mileage from the commercial trucks section?

Searches are BORINGLY slow these days.
