NoN paying eBayMotors buyers

Nov 1, 2009 8:05 PM
To most selling on eBay motors it is a Business. Even those who are just private sellers experience the hardship of Non-paying bidders.

We need help from eBay. After doing a lot of research I came up with a solution that might work. Many auction houses make a buyer put a small deposit to bid on a car. I see no reason why eBay can not require a bidder to leave a small deposit to show that they have an interest in really purchasing a car. This will weed out the zero bidders, the fake bidders just wasting time and the bidders who email after 5 days that their dog hit buy it now or the 2 year old was playing with the computer or the best on I heard was that I thought this was an online gaming site. I checked him and he won 18 cars in one week. What a game.

I know we get our final value fee back and if we re-list we will sometimes get our listing fees back, but I do not think that a 20-50 deposit per car bidding would be out of range, Or at least a credit card on file and if they do get a non-paying bidder on an item then the listing fees are paid by that buyer as just payment for our trouble.

To me this is a business. I sold 6 cars last week and actually delivered 1. All the other buyers had some lame excuse that they did not pay. I am out time and money for this listings. Now I have to re-list the car and hope for a serious bidder this time.

Tell me what you think.

Just an idea, any improvements to the suggestion are appreciated

I think your idea is prudent and logical.

Therefore it probably has ZERO chance of being implemented by eBay.

Yes, they should require everyone who wants to bid on anything to have a credit card or cash deposit on file- and for big ticket items, Ebay should automatically transfer the seller=specified deposit out of the buyers account and intop the seller's. Non-refundable.

Buyer backs out...seller keeps the deposit, out of which to pay Ebay fees, and can keep what's left over for his trouble.

See how fast the NPBs would disappear!

The fact that Ebay lets this continue for years, and even takes away our ability to leave them neg feedback, while they can leave it for us, is proff that Ebay wants NPB's here...probably because it makes the sell-through rate look higher than it is, because NPBs are not taken into account in those statistics.

" Many auction houses make a buyer put a small deposit to bid on a car. I see no reason why eBay can not require a bidder to leave a small deposit to show that they have an interest in really purchasing a car."

Let me start by saying I do NOT condone recreational non paying bidders.

Next, you are exspecting Ebay to be the same as an auction house or vehicle auction, it is not.

It is an On line venue, period.

It is no different than if you place an ad in the newspaper and get calls saying the person will be over to look at and buy the ride and they never show up.

Ebay is not going to scar off potential buyers by asking for a credit card and dinging the card for a deposit if the bidder fails to follow thru. It simply is not going to happen.

There several things you can do to cut down on your non paying bidders.

1. require immediate payment Link

2. screen your bidders as they bid.

This means as you see a 0 or low FB bidder, go look at their bidding history. Are they bidding on 6 similar rides as well as your? If yes then cancel and Block their user ID.

3. For 0 or low FB bidders , pull their contact info and give them a call to feel them out.

If the phone number is invalid, then report it, cancel and block.Link

Call the buyer and feel them out. Do they sound serious, ask them if they have any questions regarding the vehicle you could help them with. You can tell if a buyer is serious or just playing during a quick phone call.

4. Set your buyer requirements/seller preferences to exclude those who do ot meet your requirements.

5. 0 FB bidders who are registered in a foreign country when you only sell to USA bidders, can easily be found by taking a quick look at a bidder's feeback page and or setting your buyer requirements.

Non Paying bidders can not be totally eliminated, but sellers can reduce the number by using the tools Ebay gives you properly.

Ebay now allows you to file the UID(Unpaid Item Dispute on day # 4 after the auction has ended, instead of waiting 7 days post auction.Link

Pick up the phone , call the buyer and see if they intent to pay or not. If it is clear they will not, then go to your next highest bidder and Offer the Second Chance Offer via Ebay's message system.Link

vpauto, your "$120.00 Ebay Administrative processing fee:_|" in addition to the dealer fee, all the other additional fees are more likely causing your Non Paying bidders!

You can and should be charging only the dealer Doc fee which should include all the fees.

You can not charge a separate "$120.00 Ebay Administrative processing fee " on top of the Dealer fee.

Your bidders are not scrolling down reading all that is written , are bidding and then after winning realizing the additional fees and bugging out on the deal.:(

"Our fees are as follows:
$120.00 Ebay Administrative processing fee
$100.00 Documentary fee
125.00 for 3 month 4500 mile engine and trans warranty. (optional)
$10.00 for a 30-day Pennsylvania temporary in-transit license plate (For out of state residents) Pennsylvania residents must pay the above fees plus: 6% sales tax ,and applicable state fees.
$25.00 Fee for any overnight shipment of paperwork. (DHL/FEDEX etc)

You are listing high mileage, older vehicles with no reserve and socking the bidders with additional fees on top of the Dealer Doc fee of $100.

You will get more than your fair share of non paying bidders with this and the average bidder who wants these rides is not going to read every word of your listing.

Fact: Bidders do not read, they skim listings:_|

Your fees are towards the bottom of the listing, which most bidders never look at until the auction has ended and they go to pay.:(

Those listings are a total joke!

Links up top that do not work, photo links that resize your browser window, no style info in the coding, yada, yada, yada.

Better off using CarAd if your webmaster can't come up with a better listing template than that.

"$120.00 Ebay Administrative processing fee "

This should be built into your item price, not charged seperate to the buyer.

It makes perfect sense not to use a reserve on these older high mileage rides, but to sock the buyer with your Ebay selling fees , an additional $25 for overnight doc fees, in addition to the $100 Doc fee is just going to get you exactly what you have non paying bidders.:(

Kinder more gentle motors board there Yankee Woman!

You are going to run all the new posters off! Then what would we have?

A bunch of ole posters, most of them naked or at least in their underwear or night clothes. Though that may not be a bad thing.

Those Pennsylvania dealers live in a whole other world. They have one of the toughest inspection laws in the United States, Yet their cars are rusting so fast that even if it will pass one day. Something might rust and fall off the next day, and then it won't.

Did you know?

I saw the other day that ebay will chastise you if you use the words "deadbeat bidder" in your auctions.

Dang old cars ain't wurth the fees being charged

Ebay sure needs to change some rules that the sellers have to go by so we will have a dang level playing field hare

FEEDBACK system stinks to high heaven it needs to be done away with

These new buyers should have to put a 500 deposit somehow in a reserve account so if they renig on a deal the seller can get his fees back right there on the spot cut out all this BS waiting period

I know the rules are different in all states but the seller should have to abide by their own state rules and if the buyer is out of the sellers state they should have to go by the sellers state rules

Ebay says you can't mention a title in the parts car section well one of their know it alls told me different

If it is a SALVAGE title i was told you can mention that but not a clean title which i already knew that

They have rules but they are like everything else they got too many and nobody knows what rules that we have to go by

Just think this is only MONDAY
Now Yankee Mamma look wat ya got stirred up

Yea, I notice DOG was listing one the other day and they made him take "deadbeat bidder" out of the auction.

Well, they didn't actually make him do it. But they said it would be a good idea if he did.

I told him to go play on the highway the other day and he did that too! He'll listen to anybody who's talking.
He's kind of hard to hearing though!

Ole Doc told him the other day he should join the NUDIST COLONY. Next thing I knew he had shaved his head, was wearing a robe, carrying a lil statue of a chubby chinese dude, had his belly sticking out all over da place and was headed towards that chinese joint down the road:8}.

I am going to have a long talk with that boy!
