Yes, 1600 is too large to display directly in a listing, but eBay will be using the large size as the basis for all the smaller images it uses on the site. So eBay would like to have something big to work with. They might also begin using that large size in some of the zoom features in the future.

As long as the photo you upload is larger than 1000 pixels on the longest side, you will be fine. There will be no warning messages.

If your photo is under 1000 pixels, you'll get a warning that the photo is not optimal, but eBay will still accept the photo and will use it in your listing.

Starting next fall when the new Picture policy goes into effect, eBay will not accept a photo that is under 500 pixels on the longest side.

ubeladysales, beginning this fall, eBay will require photos that are at least 500 pixels on the long side. Your photos are 640x480, or 640 on the long side, so they are larger than eBay's minimum size. Therefore, the photos from your Sony Mavica are just fine. You can keep using it.

eBay recommends photos that are at least 1600 pixels on the long side, but this is just a recommendation, not a requirement. You will continue to get the warning notice that your photos are not optimum, but it is ok to ignore the message. You are not required to provide photos that are larger than 500 pixels.

I looked at some of your original photos and compared them to the ones eBay creates. The larger sizes match your originals just fine. I guess the "bright and glaring" differences you are seeing might in the thumbnail or search sizes where the compression has to be more severe.

For instance, this is your original photo.

And below is the zoom size that eBay displays because your TurboLister is setting this size. The colors still look the same.

However, because the entire image is nearly the same color all the way across, with very little contrast, it will be hard to  maintain sharpness in the smaller photos. That is just the nature of tiny images.

Yes, I believe ebay is running off anyone who won't adapt. And thats a lot of technically challenged people. And even the big box sellers who run thousands of auctions are screaming about this change.

I've been on ebay 16 years and gone through many changes. I personally believe ebay does not want small sellers anymore.  It seems every change they make is an effort to run off the same sellers made ebay a big company today.

Personally, I am not buying anymore inventory. I am going bare bones and closing out stock and expect to begin looking for other employment.  I also have started a second website that I am working on to help me leave ebay.

Ebay seems to be in a self destruct mode.  Besides, if they want larger photos that not only bogs down my computer, but it must certainly put heavy demand on ebays existing servers leading to slower loads and frustrated customers.

I think we may all be on a sinking ship.
